Quote of the Day 8-21-09
A child is not a right. Unfortunately in todays society, children are seen as product to be had rather than gifts. If you don’t want that product, you may abort it. If you want that product, we can create one in a lab for you. The problem that the Church has with IVF is the same problem it has with contraception; it destroys and separates the two aspects of the conjugal act, the unitive and the pro-creative. Contraception is sex without babies. IVF is babies without sex. The two go hand-in-hand, to artificially separate them goes against God’s design of the conjugal act. This is so beautifully and throughly hammered out in JPII’s Theology of the Body, and as I am now learning, especially in Christopher West’s commentary “Theology of the Body Explained.”
JillStanek.com moderator Bobby Bambino, as quoted by Stanek post Céline Dion pregnant with 8-year-old frozen embryo

Every once in a while I like to check into blogs and websites with views and opinions different from my own – hoping for signs of intelligent life. Still looking
Just because you don’t agree with Catholicism doesn’t mean you should be disrespectful. I don’t agree with it, and I think IVF is fine, just as I believe contraception is acceptable as well. That doesn’t mean I think that Catholics who believe as much are not intelligent.
Bravo, Bobby.

mary anne,
Could you be more specific?

anytime, Janet. ;)
Something troubling I’ve noticed lately:
It’s the second time in as many days (although I believe the first person’s story is probably a lie, or stolen from someone else) I’ve talked to what appeared to be an outright pro-abortion activist-type, and then later found out that they only felt this way because they had what would’ve otherwise been a terminal illness and felt they had to abort because of this medical condition (the most recent case of this I’ve come across was a woman with cancer I talked to earlier today).
I’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone, myself especially, that you shouldn’t start out assuming the worst about a post-abortive woman. Apparently, many abortion providers talk up how horrible we are, and how if we had our way, we’d rather these women died, and we want to outlaw even life-saving procedures, and while this might be true for some, I don’t think it speaks truthfully of the entire pro-life movement. These women are being lied to. Our words are biting against us because of the lies these poor women have been told. I find it infuriating, but that just means I need to adapt and expect such evil tricks from evil people. Poor girl. *sigh*

I do not believe all post-abortive mothers are evil but I do think that some are given no hope but abortion. I do know of two people who did undergo chemo while pregnant and both babies were perfectly healthy. (One mother did not start the chemo until the second trimester, and one started in the third.) You do have to find a doctor willing to do the chemo but it isn’t unheard of and most women do not know, or think the chemo will harm or kill the baby. It is just sad that this happens when you can still have a healthy baby.
Sometimes, Bobby, INFERTILITY means sex without babies, too. :(
Pamela,
The difference being, infertility is not an intentional separation of sex from babies. It’s not an attempt to remove God from the procreative act, nor from the act of conjugal love.
Very eloquently written, Bobby.
(Note Bobby’s usage of the term “artificially separate”)
