Quote of the Day 8-10-10
If I had only one thing to do over in my life… I would have that baby.
~The late actress Patricia Neal, writing in her 1988 autobiography, As I Am, about aborting her child with married actor Gary Cooper, as quoted by the NY Times, August 9

Why is it, at the end of one’s life, you never hear the other ‘choice’:
“I should have aborted that baby”
Me too, Patricia. Me too.
I think it’s very interesting argument – a lot of women who choose abortion later regret it and say they wish they didn’t have it, on the other hand haven’t heard of any woman who chose to have a baby and later said they wished they didn’t…
I wish someone did a reasearch about it, just to see the numbers.
I have heard from teens that nowadays some moms will actually yell out in anger that they wish they’d had an abortion. I put this on par with a kid saying “I hate you.” We know children don’t really hate their parents, they’re just very angry and lashing out. It is a horrible thing to say. But still, I believe it’s one of those horrible things a mom regrets after her temper cools.
Just imagine what a beautiful baby Neal and Cooper would have had. I have spent more than 2 decades regretting not having my baby. I don’t care what verbal acrobatics the pro-choice advocates go through to describe pregnancy, it was a baby, and I still miss my baby. Regret is what decent human beings feel after doing something wrong. Which brings me to why elective abortion (because I don’t count ectopic pregnancies) is so wrong and should never be legal: You take a relatively nice girl, a girl who is kind to animals, who loves her friends, who by every other standard is a good person, and then you turn her into an participant in her child’s murder. How do we expect women to live with that? Yes, there is help out there, but what kind of society have we created? I look forward to the day when abortion is a rumor of the past.

I disagree – I think telling your kid you wish you’d aborted them is infinitely worse. Think Mo’Nique in “Precious”. Besides, kids have an excuse in that they’re kids. There is no excuse for an adult basically saying, “I wish I’d had you ripped up in the womb and thrown away as medical waste.”
