Quote of the Day 10-7-10
If you want to quit smoking, do you look to cigarette manufacturers for advice? The answer’s obvious. But like some tobacco companies that actually provide their own guidance on how to stop smoking, Planned Parenthood is now offering advice on how to reduce abortions in the African American community.
Pardon my skepticism, but I find it hard to believe that the nation’s largest abortion provider wants to reduce its profit margins.
… [I]t’s a clever way to deflect attention away from what truly needs examination – the policies and practices of an industry that has wiped out one-quarter of the black population.
~Alveda King, LifeNews.com, October 7

Exactly.
Planned Parenthood is a NON-PROFIT. What this means is all the money they receive from providing much-needed abortion goes back into the organization. NOT into profit. More abortion provisions does NOT mean more profit for the organization! Every cent of profit goes right back to achieving the mission of the organization. And that mission is providing American women and families with the information and services they need to be pro-active and knowledgable about their sexual and reproductive health. Abortion services account for less than 2% of their medical services. Planned Parenthood prevents WAY more abortions than it provides.
“Abortion services account for less than 2% of their medical services.”
I’ve heard this line of thinking before… oh, it was yesterday, and it was from my 2 year old daughter. She hit her little sister, and then when we tried to scold her, she said “I’m being good now.” And that is a difficult point to argue with. Because if we look at her behavior statistically, I’d say probably less than 1% of the time she is hitting her sister. Thus, she is being good 99% of the time, so it doesn’t really bother me that 1% of the time she is hitting her sister.
I figure I can use this idea to my advantage too. I’d say this year I’ve done probably 95 really good deeds. So I figure, 4 more really good deeds, and then I can go out and rape someone. Even then, I’d have prevented waaaay more rapes than the number of times I rape, which is a measly 1. Especially when that is considered in light of the 99 other good deeds I’ve done, I figure I’ll be a national hero in no time.
Well – according to Planned Parenthood itself, and its directors – one of the biggest money-making items they have is abortion – and they are instructing their clinics to do more so that their bottom line is better.
And just because an entity is ‘non-profit’ does not mean that they do not make money – it’s that they do not owe any shareholders money or have ‘left-over money’ – but that they can spend the money as they deem fit – on salaries, facilities, political campaigns, building renovations, advertising – and – oh yes – patients.
I believe that PP showed that indeed they did make money – from their investments and all the money coming in thru state, federal governments, donations, grants and fees etc. but they deal with it in a different manner than a for-profit organization. I’m sure someone on the blog has their statistics…
Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy prevented WAY more murders than they committed.
There’s no such thing as a “much needed” abortion, Gina. Nobody NEEDS abortion. Don’t just “parrot” Planned Parenthood’s “statistics”.
Gina’s right. I have tried to explain this to them before Gina but they are too hateful to listen to anything they have not read on an Anti-choice site. Abortions cost about $400-$500 dollars but when my father was in the hospital having a third of one of his lungs removed they charged us that much just in Tylenol. I think it cost him three times that just in blood work. The profit margin on abortions is nothing. PP lives on donations and government grants. The government grants do not cover abortions they pay for public health stuff like disease treatment and prevention as well as education. Abortions are paid for by clients and donors. At my local PP affiliate, abortion makes up less than 5% of what they do and any client can request to see her ultrasound anytime she wants, in fact I believe they ask the client if they would like to see it or not.
Pamela – Rape and incest victims need abortions. Women who are have medical health issues that would lead to their own death in child birth need abortions. Stop hating women.
One more thing about “Black Genocide” The question isn’t why is PP in the low income areas aborting more black fetuses than white fetuses… The question is why are the low income areas of America filled with mostly black people.
PP is there to help anyone who is low income and if the low income areas of America were full of Irish people “like they used to be” the numbers would reflect that change. So, why is PP helping more black people than white people, because there are more low income black people than white people in most of our country?
Anyone who holds up that Margret Sanger quote as proof of racial bias needs to do a little more research on the context of that speech to the KKK and of American history at the time it was given. At that time the KKK ran the south, heck it was just a couple years ago we got that last of the KKK senators out of office. The only way to get rights for women in the south back then was to plead your case to the KKK. Back then it was only white males that could even vote so she would have had to given a racist reason to the KKK to get the support of the KKK politicians. If you look at her work in New York or while she was in prison for talking about birth control with other women you will see a much clearer vision of who she really was and what she was really trying to do.
Low income women need help with job skills and better education so they can get better jobs for themselves (and then they move into a higher income and are not low income anymore). They don’t need condoms and cancer causing pills thrown at them. They certainly DO NOT need abortion.
Planned Parenthood targets blacks because their founder was a RACIST. She hated blacks and other minorities, and called them “weeds”. She was a HUGE fan of Hitler, who hated Jews and other people who didn’t match his view of a perfect person.
LOL Liz you know NOTHING of Margret Sanger LOL and yes there are women out there that absolutely NEED abortions as I stated above. Stop hating women.
I do NOT hate women. Women DO NOT NEED abortions, PERIOD! They need love and moral support. Women are often coerced into abortions or threatened at GUN POINT (I guess you didn’t read about the man who held a gun to a woman trying to force her to abort their child? She did NOT want an abortion! He was later arrested.)
You seem to think being against killing an innocent not-yet-born child is hating women…..well, guess what……at least 50% of those that are aborted are FUTURE WOMEN. *gasps* Yes, FEMALE CHILDREN grow up to become women. Abortion industry denies them their right in society. How many future women have been denied the right to vote? At least 25 MILLION!
If abortion is supposed to be RARE, then why are there 1 MILLION+ a year?
Black Genocide IS real. A Black woman is THREE TIMES more likely to abort her child, due to many factors.
You can try to demonize Planned Parenthood all you like, but as long as there are people like me who are willing to donate to PP to allow it to continue the good work that it does, it will continue to provide much-needed reproductive health services to vulnerable women.
Yep – as long as people support evil, evil will flourish.
Some of the “evil” services Planned Parenthood provides, often free of charge or inexpensively, include: birth control, screening for cervical, testicular, and breast cancer, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, sexual education programs, menopause treatments, physical exams, diabetes and high blood pressure screening, prenatal care, and rape and sexual assault counseling. Maybe the folks here could explain to me why each of these services is “evil” and why I shouldn’t donate so that Planned Parenthood can continue to provide them affordably to people of lesser means.
yep – how about telling people that any contraception that has un-natural hormones in it is a class 1 carcinogen – as classified by the World Health Organization. Not to mention the increase of heart attacks, stroke, blood clots and other problems. I know two women who have had this as direct use of hormonal contraception. So much for safe….
How about using IUD’s in women and not telling them that they were banned 30 years ago due to serious consequences to women’s health (infections, perforations of the uterus, possible sterility, etc).
How about the use of the contraceptive patch that delivers the contraception so directly that there is increased chance of blood clots, strokes, etc. in young women.
How about the abortion for a young lady in Ohio who complained that she was impregnated by her father. They ignored her (although they were required by law to report the perpetrator). This happened at least once – and when the father started turning on the younger sister, the older one went to the police and PP of Ohio is being sued for their negligence.
Prenatal care? Our PP stopped that in January 2009, and still kept receiving $$ from United Way, despite repeated assurances that the money that they got from United Way would help poor pregnant women to have their babies.
Just a few examples of evil. I’m sure there are more examples, for sure.
I would like you to cite peer-reviewed research, clinical studies, or other conclusive evidence in order to support your claims about the supposed deleterious side-effects of certain kinds of contraceptives.
First of all – look at the warning labels on any non-natural hormonal contraception.
Second – ever hear of DES? It stands for a set of man-made hormones that were used from the 1950’s – 1970’s ‘to help women avoid miscarriage’ and they even advertised it as safe and ‘insure a perfect baby.’ OB/GYN handed it out like candy, like they do now with the hormonal contraception…
What they found was that the hormones changed the reproductive function/cell structure and organs of the children in utero – and many of them got cancer of the cervix before age 25 (unheard of for that time), many could not get pregnant or hold a pregnancy to term and the whole population is unsure of what holds for them when they are in menopause. It affects men and women.
And they found out that the next generation is also affected.
How do I know this? I am a DES baby. I am lucky to have any children – as my gynecologist said that my cell structure on my cervix is so distorted that it resembles cancer. My last child is lucky to be here, as my cervix was failing as she was 6 months along in utero. I’ve already had a pre-cancerous scare and they are watching very carefully what is happening.
There are millions of us around and many do not know their history.
So before you declare that there is no problem – please investigate.
And I did not even mention the harm to environment and animal life due to hormonal discharge into the environment in our sanitary waste water.
Man-made hormones are a poor substitute for the real thing. Every time Man tries to best nature by his creation, it usually makes a mess of things. I know this in my life personally.
You must have read my post wrong. I asked for peer-reviewed research or clinical studies conclusively showing that modern contraception has harmful side-effects, not a personal anecdote about a synthetic estrogen that is no longer in use or allowed by the FDA.
Thank you for your heart-felt response. I truly appreciate that! (not).
The peer review and warnings are out there – you don’t refute the World Health Organization, do you? And no I did not read your post wrong.
I just do not have the time at this moment to find the particular citing for that research (and it’s not one lone source).
And I want to be perfectly clear here: you are not trying to say that the existing hormonal contraceptives are not un-natural, are you? The reason the doses as lower now with the estrogen side is trying to lower the adverse affects of the synthetic hormones.
And by the way, the two women I cited - the one needing the double lung transplant due to the blood clots in her lungs is under 25 – a user of the current contraception. But of course, that is an anecdotal case – one you will not accept as true, of course.
Too bad – that is the reality – and she and her family have to live with the medical consequences for real. She just found out only 6 weeks ago she needed the lung transplant.
“The peer review and warnings are out there – you don’t refute the World Health Organization, do you? And no I did not read your post wrong.”
How can I “refute” something you didn’t even provide a citation for in the first place?
“And I want to be perfectly clear here: you are not trying to say that the existing hormonal contraceptives are not un-natural, are you?”
The topic of discussion is not whether hormonal contraceptives are “unnatural”, but whether their usage has unhealthy side effects.
“And by the way, the two women I cited – the one needing the double lung transplant due to the blood clots in her lungs is under 25 – a user of the current contraception. But of course, that is an anecdotal case – one you will not accept as true, of course.”
Which “current contraception”? They are not all identical. Is every single hormonal contraceptive currently FDA-approved and on the market responsible for one woman supposedly suffering adverse medical side-effects as the result of using just one particular contraceptive? And one case, whether true or not, does not outweigh the millions of women who regularly take contraceptives without incident.
So Planned Parenthood provides health exams. Ted Bundy volunteered at a crisis hotline and Hitler loved dogs.
Right, Planned Parenthood is comparable to Ted Bundy and Adolf Hitler. And you wonder why normal, reasonable do not take the “pro-life” movement seriously. Think how easy and not completely insane it would be to simply reflect that you don’t believe the many unquestionably good things Planned Parenthood does outweigh the “bad” things you disagree with. Instead, you compare a non-profit organization that provides a wide range of crucial medical services to disadvantaged people with a serial killer and a mass murderer. Very clever rhetorical device. Definitely makes me want to vote for the next “pro-life” politician that comes along… or not.
Well – like I said look at the label warnings on any contraceptive that has unnatural hormones – and the latest investigation that Johnson & Johnson knew of the health risks of the patch are going to be more thoroughly investigated.
But we are off topic – why would you support an organization that by it’s own reporting purposely ends a pre-born’s life – and you champion them like they are doing good? If a man rapes a woman or repeatedly beats his wife, but in every other way is a model citizen – would you champion him? Visit his business? Excuse him and say the ‘everything else he does is great – so we should excuse his behavior ?’ I don’t think so!
So why do that with Planned Parenthood? Are people so wedded to abortion that they will overlook the obvious?
It is wrong to kill to solve our social problems. Period. And PP is the largest single provider of abortion services in the U.S. – and that is by PP own statistics – or do you need a peer review of those too?
“Well – like I said look at the label warnings on any contraceptive that has unnatural hormones – and the latest investigation that Johnson & Johnson knew of the health risks of the patch are going to be more thoroughly investigated.”
I’d like you to show me a pharmaceutical drug that doesn’t have any warning labels about possible adverse side-effects. It comes with the territory. Not everybody responds the same to a given drug.
“But we are off topic – why would you support an organization that by it’s own reporting purposely ends a pre-born’s life – and you champion them like they are doing good?”
I think I’ve made my position on this issue clear. I think all of Planned Parenthood’s services, up to and including abortion, are necessary.
Sorry I’m snarky – it’s late and it’s been a long day.
And, BTW – what about the women who died from RU 486 abortions or surgical abortions? I am sure you are not saying that those did not happen, are you? One abortion Doctor just went to jail for killing a woman during an abortion. He did not even meet minimal medical standards for his clinic…
Joan – maybe you should look up some statistics on health concerns of women and abortion or woman and contraception. Maybe you won’t be so gleeful to champion such misery.
Yes – and slave-owners thought that that abuse was needed.
Bank robbers think that robbery is needed.
Pedophiles think hurting children is needed.
One who perpetrates a holocaust thinks that is needed also.
But just ask the victims – was this the best we could do as humans? Where were the people to speak for the voiceless? The helpless? The dead? Where was our humanity? Where was our heart?
“And, BTW – what about the women who died from RU 486 abortions or surgical abortions? I am sure you are not saying that those did not happen, are you? One abortion Doctor just went to jail for killing a woman during an abortion. He did not even meet minimal medical standards for his clinic…”
These are extraordinary occurrences. Any medical procedure or drug has some inherent risk to it. Physicians who fail to meet required medical standards lose their ability to practice medicine.
Killing unborn children surely does carry some risks, Joan. After all, if an abortionist is going to use a womb for a crime scene, it can get pretty dangerous.
Margaret Sanger, your lovely founder of Planned Parenthood, WAS a consultant to the architects of the “Final Solution.” I wouldn’t idly compare PP to the Nazi’s deathcamps, it is historical fact. Planned Parenthood is absolutely continuing the work of the butchers who not only tried to wipe out a people in the Holocaust but besmirched the German nation in the process. Each abortion is a murder. The thousands of abortions that occur weekly, the millions over the years, that is genocide.
Joan, did you know your darling Adolph was a vegetarian? Yes, it’s true. Wasn’t he kind? Surely all the animal’s lives he saved by not eating them will earn him a place in heaven.
