Lunch Break: “Breaking Dawn – Part I” Official Trailer
by LauraLoo
Jill and I are chomping at the bit, eagerly awaiting November 18 when the 4th installment of the Twilight Saga debuts – titled Breaking Dawn – Part I. (Unfortunately, we need to wait until November 2012 for Part II.)
In Breaking Dawn – Part I, human Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) marries vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), with the promise from Edward that after they marry he will turn her into a vampire. What they don’t anticipate: human + vampire + sex on honeymoon = vampire baby! In the just released trailer below, Bella and Edward capture the initial feel of disbelief about this “impossible pregnancy”…

I can’t wait for this movie (the pro-life themes are just a bonus) :-) Glad there are other fans here. The pro-abortion screen writer, Melissa Rosenberg, was having a little fit about having to write this. I love it.

Well, I’m not champing at the bit. But mostly because I haven’t seen the first one yet. :)
I’ve liked other “reformed vampire” shows like Forever Knight, Angel, and The Vampire Stories. But I like them more for the historical flashbacks. Living through several centuries is an intriguing idea.
The “inter-species” romance – not so much. :)

Sorry girls/guys. I agree with practically everything posted here at jillstanek.com and with many of the life-affirming comments. BUT – movies romanticizing VAMPIRES, no matter how moral and clean and “pro-life” they appear to be, originate in the pit and are demonic, IMHO. They serve no real purpose other than to break down our children’s sensibilities and sensitivities regarding dark spiritual things and bring them into acceptance of the activities of the kingdom of darkness as “normal.”
In addition to being a prayer activist working toward the ending of abortion, I also facilitate deliverance ministry, sometimes with victims of satanic ritual abuse. I can tell you from these types of encounters that Satan’s lair is happy with the Twilight series.
I would ask (Christian) people who are enraptured with the Twilight series to set it before Jesus as referee and ask Him what He thinks about vampire movies.

Not to really get into the whole “demonic” business here, but I read the Twilight books and there is a theme running through them, particularly in the vampires’ case, that deals with overcoming the nature of yourself and “the hand you’ve been dealt.” One quote I really liked from the book was by the main character, Edward Cullen. He said, “But you see, just because we’ve been… dealt a certain hand… it doesn’t mean that we can’t choose to rise above–to conquer the boundaries of a destiny that none of us wanted.”
There’s a lot in there dealing with the soul as well. The vampire “family” featured in the books seeks to be different from other vampires by refusing to kill humans.
P.S. – these books were not meant for young children. These books are meant for young adults/older teens and adults. The fact that parents don’t supervise really isn’t the author’s fault.

Amy, your points are well taken and I don’t think anything should be read in a vacuum or without the proper moral foundation. I just don’t feel comfortable lumping all fiction of a certain genre in an off-limits category. But I respect those who view it differently and certainly parents should be screening what their children read like Kel said.
Kel, I like that line too. To me the whole question was whether a person (or former person, I guess lest I open up THAT can of worms “it was human but is that sufficient.”..lol) could be made into something that was beyond the reach of salvation or goodness regardless of personal choices. That’s looking WAY too deep into these books, but it did interest me.

As with all fiction there’s people who will like it and who won’t. The good thing about fiction is that there’s quite literally something for everyone.
Bottom line: Vampires are FICTION. depending on the book/story they can be funny/light dark/serious. It really depends on the storyteller.

‘Breaking Wind’ is lost on me.
Must be one of those ‘women’ things.
Just doesn’t interest me one iota.
Ghoulish comes to mind.
Birthing vampire babies seems so counter re-productive to me.
Can you imagine what breast feeding would be like. [Some of you probably don’t have to imagine. Weaning before the baby teeth emerge is recommended.]
What would you buy as a substitute for ‘formula’, whole blood?
I will wait for the sequel to ‘Zombieland’. The infamous ‘double tap’ rule is securely nestled in my non-volatile memory.

YBK (Ken), the vampire-baby comes with a full set of teeth right out the womb. LOL
Hans, what are you waiting for? :D
Also, I think you were referring to Vampire Diaries, right? LOVE that show!

Laura Loo,
Most babies teeth do not emerge until well after their birth.
I remember the look on my wifes face when the first nursing baby clamped her newly emerged teeth on the fount of life. Didn’t take long for that daughter to discover the joy of a bottle and prepared food.
I am sympatico with Amy1.
I suppose some people find these kinds of movies entertaining. To each his/her own.
I don’t see how you can separate vampires from the ‘dark side’. They are portrayed as either superhuman or subhuman and there is some sort spiritual/supernatural connection which is associated with the ‘dark side’.
If you have ever experienced, facilitated or just observed ‘deliverance’ it takes all the fun out of the ‘dark side’.
[It’s in the ‘book’.]
Google incubus/succubus.

Laura Loo,
Well that was sharp of me, considering I’ve seen all the epicsodes of The Vampire Diaries - except the last 5 or 6, which are still online.
I’ve got a couple hundred dvds to get through before Twilight! My nephew asked so many questions during the first Harry Potter, I still have that whole series to get through.
And I have yet to see any Rocky movie! I would have to turn in my guy card if I saw the Twilights first!

Hans, so glad to hear you like Vampire Diaries! Nina gives a great performance in her dual roles, Stefan’s the kind of guy every woman would want, and Damon – well – when he’s good he’d be my kind of guy too. :D
Ken, I respect your thoughts. I am a very serious Christian but there is so much beyond the ‘vampire’ aspect with the Twilight series that I can fully support it. (Again, read Jill’s critique from 2008 which really sums it up.)
We ladies L-O-N-G for a God like Jesus (and we have Him!), as well as men of integrity that are also exciting! :D
