Free birth control: it’s for the children

This is just one reason I’m so passionate about getting you re-elected this year. We need a President who will stand up for women’s health and stay focused on jobs and economic recovery. The dreams of all our daughters are at stake. And they’re counting on us to fight for them.
~ Erin Bilbray-Kohn, narrator of the Dreams of Our Daughters campaign video that suggests little girls require the HHS birth control mandate in order to achieve their dreams, via Live Action, May 19

That was very well done and persuasive. I really hope that the Romney gang can produce quality ads like that. Of course, the assumptions being made are wild as usual. ”The use of birth control has become controversial.” No, sorry, FREE birth control, provided to you, by me, is controversial. And “birth control is as common in a woman’s medicine cabinet as cough medicine.” Who paid for your cough medicine? You wouldn’t dream of asking the nation to provide you with cough medicine, would you? ”Birth control is preventive care that most women use in their lives at some point.” Show of hands: I do know a few women who have taken hormonal contraceptives for a menstrual oriented reason. But I know plenty, PLENTY of women who have never consumed a single Pill. The rest use the Pill for the usual reason. So, all in all, very slick ad. Cute kids, great production, and full of baloney.
Wow. That video is a hymn to materialism and selfishness. Unbelievable. When I watched that video, I saw a family surrounded by wealth. A beautiful big house full of nice furniture, two expensive cars, and plenty of free time for the daughters to take part in extracurricular activities. But they need us to pay for their birth control. Really?
That video literally made me sick to my stomach. Maybe I’m more analytical that the average person, but I saw dollar signs everywhere while a woman informs us that she NEEDS something for free to LIVE, and that thing she needs costs far less than a daily Starbucks.
This mother is an idiot. Lady, no one is telling you you can’t make decisions about your own body. You pay for it mkay? The bad hair dye for your own body, the make up and clothes for your own body, the cough syrup for your own body…all of it YOU pay for, mkay? And if your daughters need to ingest carcinogens to achieve their dreams then you pay for that too. Your kids are your responsibility. Its your job as their mom to provide the things they need. If birth control pills fit the bill in your mind then YOU pay for them, mkay? Tear-jerking sappy music and an over-dramatic letter to a president who considers children like your daughters a liability don’t sugar coat the fact that you want to take other’s hard earned money by force.
“Dreams of Our Daughters”
Well, those we choose to let live, anyway.
A mother with this mindset should lose her parental rights.
An ode to a subjective understanding of happiness and “success” in this life as the highest form of the good. I wish they would stop shoving their dogmatic secular humanistic religion down our throats.
Yeck. Yeck. Yeck.
Why, why, WHY is birth control considered a “treatment?” From what I’ve read, it appears that it merely controls the symptoms of an illness/problem rather than solving it. So no, it’s not a treatment. A treatment aims to end the problem for good. Birth control does not. The question is, why aren’t doctors/researchers trying to find cures and REAL treatments for women with these problems?
Wow. How misleading. Does she even understand how “the pill” works, and what it does to a woman’s naturaly chemistry?!? Is she really so ignorant that she doesn’t know how to prevent pregnancy any other way than to medicate and interrupt a woman’s body, sometimes to the point where her body can’t even produce natural hormones on it’s own anymore? So apparently she is excpecting her daughter’s to be no smarter than popping pills to “achieve their dreams?” She has also set the value of the dollar higher than anything else, even human life!
This ad sickens me.
Where is the Dad’s voice? Why has he been silenced?
Tyler, clearly Dads don’t matter anymore in this post-American, post-Christian, post apocalyptic Presidency.
The Government is BIG DADDY.
Also, you know you’re not exactly dealing with an intellectual heavyweight when the main talking point of their argument is to express incredulity at the fact that a certain discussion is taking place during the current year.
Dear friends of this blog,
YOU ARE AWESOME!!!
You have summed it all up so nicely. :)
Absolutely disgusting. Wow. And apparently there is no father in the picture, or he doesn’t matter??
What drivel!
Jamie – Well spoken. That ad is like candy, easy to swallow and people will look at you funny if you don’t like it. But it is. Full of bull****.
Funny – I am managing to achieve my dreams – without using the Pill. Is the route a little bumpier? Yup. But that’s LIFE. I have not yet had to ingest carcinogens or kill a baby – and we are doing okay. Imagine!
I more worried about my daughter’s economic future than her probable use of birth control.
Oh yes, and wild assumption #4–you can’t be a fighter pilot without birth control! That’s right! Not only are the republicans stealing your birth control, but they are thereby stealing away all your dreams for the future! Because without the Pill–the Free To You Pill–you will not realize your education or career goals! Hey little girl–you’re cute and smart, and you wake up at 5:00 am in preparation for your military career! Do yourself a huge favor–go to bed at 9:00 pm and all will be well!
@Tyler
this is feminist america, What dad?
Beyond understanding. It takes birth control to achieve dreams? Interesting perspective. I wonder if either of her daughters have ever played with dolls and expressed an interest in being a mother some day? What do you think she says to that? “Naaawww! Come on! Being a career woman is SOOOO much more rewarding! I should know! You don’t have to have kids or even get married! Afterall, I don’t want you girls punished with my grandchildren! I want you to be able to murder them whenever you want! Just like I did to your brothers and sisters…the ones that made it past the carcinogens I take every day. A carcinogen? Well, it’s something that causes cancer. Like my breast cancer? Yes. Like my breast cancer. But, the ones I take didn’t cause my cancer. My cancer was caused by the big, bad companies owned by Republicans. Come on! Let’s go get your free carcinogens now! What? You’re only ten? It’s cool. I know you’ve had a crush on Billy and I just want you to be prepared! We’ll stop and get some free condoms at the local Jesuit university too. You can never be too safe! Of course, don’t worry, because we have a Planned Parenthood just 20 miles away from our affluent neighborhood in the poorest part of town, where we can get you a quickie aborsh in no time. So, you and Billy just go have fun! You crazy kids!”
Yes. I can see all those girls’ dreams coming true in no time at all. This moron makes me want to throw up. And the Satanists at the Obama campaign for making this into an ad will pay for exploiting those children. I see them wishing for millstone necklaces.
Are we supposed to imagine that we are viewing the little girl who wants to be a pilot set her alarm clock for the first time ever? Or was this right after her alarm clock was unplugged? Or does she not have an alarm clock with a memory so that she has to constantly set it every single night? My goodness, these poor kids can’t even afford alarm clocks with internal memories, all because the religious right has been taking away their birth control pills!
Brilliant, MamaMT.
Bogus to the core. A good Liberal would NEVER let her child join the military and be a fighter pilot.
WHAT! No carseats for these small looking 6 and 10 year olds? I thought this mother was concerned with her daughters’ health and safety!!!!
Yes, being facetious…
This ad is pretty disgusting and I have to agree that it’s very misleading.
Ms. Bilbray-Kohn -You mean..you stopped taking your beloved birth control long enough to have two children? How EVER did you survive without it???
Dewayne!! Bazinga! Good thing I wasn’t taking a sip of coffee as I read your comment, lol!!
We’ll stop and get some free condoms at the local Jesuit university too.
Mama T,
You crack me up!
This lady is a career politician just like her daddy so you know her kids are going to grow up to be just like her. (Someone save them from secular feminism, please!)
Ms. Kohn, How many abortions per daughter is an acceptable price to pay for this “freedom”?
Are you teaching them abstinence as an option?
For someone who lives in a 3600+ ft2 house in Las Vegas that they bought for $499,000 in 2003, she has some nerve asking me to pay for birth control for her daughters. Maybe she should take a bigger salary from Bilbray & Associates where she works as a political consultant (according to political contribution records), or from Emerge Nevada where she apparently trains people for public office. Or maybe she could even get the Democratic National Committee, of which she is a member, to kick in a few bucks.
It is funny, though. The ad makes her seem like just another concerned citizen. Then again, given the tough road ahead for her man Barry, she should be concerned.
Amazing what you can find with a few minutes of spare time and Google.
Talk about tools.
Oh, and Mama MT–you NAILED this one!! Gonna start calling you THE HAMMER!!
I am so glad to have such sensible and witty people countering the materialistic, entitled, liberal culture. Why can we see it so clearly? Hmm… Amazing Grace … I might buy in to the “me, me, me” as well without my Lord to show me the way.
Bryan – Nice. Can I quote your google findings?
I also can’t believe there is no discussion about opportunity costs – that there are real medical conditions which no one will make us pay for. Or how abour hunger? That sounds way more like healthcare than killing babies and encouraging sexual activity. Shameful. Obama sickens me.
What about the dreams of little boys and men’s health care?
I have 4 nieces…and I serously doubt any of them would prefer a CAREER over being a MOTHER….My brother’s oldest loves being a big sister (oldest of 4..she has two sisters and a brother) and someday I am sure she’ll make a great mother. And since they have been taught that children are a BLESSING, I doubt she OR her sisters would take a carcinogen to help them with spacing children in their own families some day.
LifeJoy – go ahead
to ensure you know exactly what you are quoting, I Googled “erin bilbray-kohn political contributions” – there were several hits – on this one http://www.lasvegasnevada.gov/files/Chris_Giunchigliani2.pdf I got an address, employer (Bilbray and Assoc) and occupation (political consultant) – from the Clark County real estate records I verified that address was for a single family residence, and that she is owner (with her husband) – that is also where I got the purchase price from 2003 – searches for her name yielded the info about Emerge Nevada and her membership in the DNC – there is much more to read about her, but time and space here limited how much I included
I have seen in the past that seemingly “generic” John Q Public and Jane Doe people that show up in things like this are often political operatives – so I take anything like that video with a grain of salt – and I do some research on the people involved – often I find stuff like this – she is not some random concerned person off the street – she is a political operative with an agenda – just like Sandra Fluke
Another argument she uses is that we should pay for her birth control because a lot of women have it in their medicine cabinet. Oh well, I guess the government will also have to pay for toothpaste, mouthwash, floss, Tylenol, Band-Aids, shaving razors, and Preparation H, all of which are far more necessary to obtain “dreams” than birth control. And yet you have to buy them with your own money! It must be due to an evil cabal between the “Xtian” facists” and Big Pharma! And Big Hemorrhoid.
Thank you, Bryan, for all the good info. With your investigative inclinations, maybe you should write articles on your findings such as these.
Courtney, “The Hammer”!! Hilarious!
LifeJoy, I thought the same thing about other actual healthcare that is not covered for free…like glasses for children! What about the little girls who dream of seeing the chalkboard clearly?! How about the little girl with cancer who dreams of living to see another day? No. They’re not important. What’s important is that they know they can have unlimited sex, sex, sex, sex with no consequences. Well, if you don’t count self-loathing, constant loneliness, breast cancer, and all the other undisclosed side-effects of a promiscuous life style. No. Those consequences don’t matter at all. Dream on, baby girls! Dream on!
This is just ridiculous. First off, why would a mother of a SIX year-old and a TEN year-old be worrying about their future use of birth control? I find that slightly, well, disturbing. Second, I just can’t fathom why she thinks Obama needs to keep the focus on jobs on economic recovery. It would be better to say he needs to PUT the focus on that. In my opinion, Obama has been a little too busy pushing his liberal agenda (including the HHS mandate, gay “marriage”, etc.) to make a difference in the economy. But that’s beside the point. My third and final point is that, birth control really won’t effect whether or not your daughters can live out their dreams. A lot of women have kids and a successful career, and if you don’t want to get pregnant, then just don’t have sex. This all might sound a little harsh, but it’s the truth.
