Pro-life vid of day: Brooklyn baby boy born after hit-and-run dies

Sunday morning, a hit-and-run tragically killed a young Brooklyn couple expecting their first child. It was reported that the baby miraculously survived. However, as of this morning, the baby has died as well.
Nachman and Raizy Glauber, both 21, were killed when a speeding BMW slammed into their cab, ejecting pregnant Raizy into the street, her body coming to rest under a parked tractor trailer. She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, where her baby boy was delivered by emergency C-section. Nachman died at the scene. The driver of the BMW and a female passenger fled the scene on foot…
If/when they find the person responsible for the accident, will the driver be charged with the death of two people… or three?

It is a shtreimel, a hat that I believe is typically only worn by married Jewish men, carder. This young couple is from a very Orthodox neighborhood in Brooklyn; here are some of the pictures of their community in mourning: http://gothamist.com/2013/03/03/photos_thousands_mourn_in_williamsb.php#photo-1 I don’t believe it’s as common for everyday wear as the plain black hat but I have seen people wear it before. It is not a requirement but it is thought, by the wearer, to add to the spirituality of the act of headcovering. I don’t know much about Orthodox Judaism but I imagine that, given that the hat is associated with married men, he was probably very excited and happy to wear it on his wedding day.
It is such a sad story.
I hadn’t heard the baby had died too. What a tragic waste. May they rest in peace.
Well..since the baby died AFTER he was born, I imagine they’ll charge the driver with THREE deaths.
*When police traced the VIN, it was discovered that that was NOT the person driving the car. They don’t say if it was a stolen car, or a borrowed car, only that it was not being driven by the owner of the vehicle.
IN the state of TN it would be three deaths even if the baby died prior to birth. Fetal homicide bill was passed so that if a pregnant woman was attacked and caused the death of her child, they were charged.
I get the black derby. Just hadn’t seen the whole spiral fringe before.

Beyond fashion inquiries, though, this story is just sad. What a loss.

I had heard about this story and was heartbroken that this young couple just starting out in life was viciously robbed of their entire lives. But I was rooting for that baby boy. I am crushed to hear he has passed too.
I pray this driver is found and justice is served before he puts any more families in the grave!!! Lock him up!!
What a beautiful couple, it is truly heartbreaking! I saw the photos from their funeral on Buzzfeed. I couldn’t help but wonder what the people inside those plain, wooden coffins were like. What were their favorite foods, their hobbies and interests? Seeing their young, hopeful faces in the photo makes my chest hurt, and I did not even know them! I believe this is why the anti-abortion cause can be such an uphill battle. A person can know, logically, an unborn child is as human as they are, but because a fetus is hidden within the body of another, and can’t be seen (without an ultrasound machine), it is easier to accept that it is somehow different, or a lesser being. Hearing a story about a young couple tragically killed is sad, but seeing their picture and learning about their lives makes it “real”, at least to one’s emotions.
