Pro-life vid of day II: CBS covers Gosnell, questions lack of coverage
by Jill
CBS News covered the Gosnell case history and trial this morning. It was a good report until the end, when Jan Crawford said:
But looming over this case is the debate over abortion rights. Opponents say it illustrates the brutality of abortion and how it’s taking a human life, while supporters of abortion rights, who have condemned Gosnell, say it highlights the need for clean, safe places for women to have legal abortions.
What does “highlights the need for clean, safe places for women to have legal abortions” mean, in response to news of an abortionist who operated a legal clinic that was unclean and unsafe? This was also a clinic that the National Abortion Federation inspected and rejected but did not report to authorities.
Reporters must question abortion proponents. Does this mean they will begin supporting abortion clinic regulations, rather than fighting them tooth and nail? Does this mean the NAF will start turning in unsafe clinics it finds?

Way to completely miss the point, Jan Crawford. This case has very little to do with providing a “clean, safe place for women to have abortions.” Not only is he on trial for Mongar’s murder but also for the murders of numerous babies who were being aborted.
He’s not on trial for a providing an unclean, unsafe environment — he’s on trial for murder.
“Does this mean they will begin supporting abortion clinic regulations, rather than fighting them tooth and nail? Does this mean the NAF will start turning in unsafe clinics it finds?”
Brilliant. Choicers just keep backing themselves into corners!

Great questions, and these seem like perfectly logical solutions to us pro-lifers. To pro-aborts, not so much. Planned Parenthood Action’s FB page has pro-aborts suggesting that repealing the Hyde Amendment is the solution. Ugh.
But Jan, But Jan,
I thought abortion was legalized so as to guarantee ”..clean safe places for women to have legal abortions”.
Prolifers don’t want safe and clean clinics–they want no clinics.
“I thought abortion was legalized so as to guarantee ”..clean safe places for women to have legal abortions”. – it was. But the anti-choice movement hasn’t exactly supported and encouraged such an environment.
Maybe if you worked towards abortions being done in hospitals, and supported and encouraged the best medical people to work in this field everyone would be better off.
I like how it is magically pro-lifers’ fault that people can’t idk hire a housekeeper or trained staff. How is anything pro-lifers are doing preventing people from maintaining their clinics up to normal medical standards? Sounds like an excuse.
But Merit has one thing right, at least, we want no clinics at all.
“But Merit has one thing right, at least,”
There’s a first time for everything. :)
If it’s about clean safe places to have abortions–as if there were any such things–then why isn’t the mainstream media investigating clinics and pushing the inspectors and investigators to get in there, enforce regulations, or shut them down?
No, Jan Crawford, for you and your liberal media friends, it’s about covering up for anyone who will do abortions. And it’s about covering up an important story that you now claim you’ve been covering, until Kirsten Powers called you out on it.
Oh I dunno Jack. How about threatening to boycott or blockade businesses which provide products or services to clinics?
How about hanging around young childrens schools with signs declaring their parent to be a murderer?
“Oh I dunno Jack. How about threatening to boycott or blockade businesses which provide products or services to clinics?”
Boycotts happen (and I’m pretty sure blockading people from entering a clinic is illegal, whether they are bringing services/products or not). The clinics down here have people protesting all the time and they still manage to keep animals from dirtying them up and manage not to sedate women with contraindicated medications. I don’t buy the pro-lifers did it argument at all, it seems pretty apparent that the problem here was lack of oversight.
“How about hanging around young childrens schools with signs declaring their parent to be a murderer?”
I don’t agree with that, and if you feel like going through the archives you can see me say so on the thread that Jill posted about it. That’s not all pro-lifers by far, that was one single group.
Seriously, I live in a state famous for the clinic protests and clinic violence and I don’t think we’ve had a Gosnell down here. If it’s totally the meanie pro-lifers fault that things like this happen, then every clinic down here should be utterly disgusting.
I’m aware that you didn’t agree with the schoold protests Jack. I was simply stating what types of actions take place.
“If it’s totally the meanie pro-lifers fault” – not totally. But it does contribute.
James Pendergraft, Jack.
Abortion advocates have been pretty slow to get the obvious. They haven’t been able to see the forest because all their strawmen are standing in the way. We get accused of a so called war on women, but look and see the evidence, entered into evidence, of who is at war with whom.
Abortions don’t belong anywhere at all. Someday, doctors may even know how to treat an ectopic pregnancy without harming the child. Imagine a world where doctors help to heal, and nobody pays anyone to kill anybody.
The solution to unsafe abortions isn’t to abort children “safely” but to stop killing children.

“James Pendergraft, Jack.”
Oh yeah, I forgot about him. I would be surprised if the conditions in his clinics were near as bad as Gosnell, though, not with all the attention from protestors at Orlando Women’s and all.
There’s a point, Reality. Maybe pro-life attention to clinics forces them to behave better because they are under a microscope. Don’t remember hearing about daily protests at Gosnell’s clinic, if any.
Reality says:
Maybe if you worked towards abortions being done in hospitals, and supported and encouraged the best medical people to work in this field everyone would be better off.
Everyone except the babies who are being butchered.
LOL! Maybe if pro-lifers acted like pro-choicers, except that pro-choicers (NAF) are the ones who saw what Gosnell was doing and said, ‘Herpy derpy, we can’t let HIM in our club! Let’s slowly back away and let this guy keep doing his “work”!!!’
It was Reality who allowed him to kill born, fully grown female “patients” and born, breathing children. How? Condoning murder up to and beyond birth is TANTAMOUNT to putting the scissors in Gosnell’s hand. I used the word tantamount because abortion fans like that word. They like “ardent” too, but not “zealous.”
So you fully support strictly controlled and severely limited gun ownership ninek.
You are vehemently against the death penalty.
You believe all vehicles should be fitted with speed limiters.
And the military should be disbanded.
Yes?
