Video of the day: Halloween costumes for kids on Ellen
by LauraLoo
On a recent Ellen show, adorable children paraded clever Halloween costumes to get their scoopful of treats.
The costume references to controversial pop culture or political issues were something I found very funny.

My favorite? Mt. Rushmore, with a clever spin at the end. :D

Awww how cute. I like Ellen’s show.
Using children as props to advance her views and score ratings? But I am sure that the candy made up for that…
I’ve got to express my disappointment again. I have watched this clip five times. This was a comedic stunt for adult entertainment and not a single child “used” had a smile on their face. This was not even a contest for the best Halloween costume but an adult-themed kicker to score ratings at the expense of children who (as you see in the clip) have no clue. HAHA. I am not laughing.
My boys are the age range of the children in this clip. As long as they have been dressing up and I had the opportunity to see their friends and other children in the neighborhood, none dressed like what you see in the clip. What do 5 – 10 year old kids dress up like? An IPhone? Nope. This is not cute at all. You want to know what the hottest costume right now is in my sons’ school – a morph costume that you can accessorize. That gets laughs and wins contests. And the kids have smiles on their faces parading in their costumes.
Ellen’s attempt to use children to entertain adults was lame. Did you see how she baited the kid dressed up as a wrecking ball? Come closer, don’t come closer, come, no… The poor kid went back and forth three times.
If you call this circus of a show cute than I truly don’t think you understand Halloween..
Jeez I’m so sorry, I thought it was cute.
Like I said, using children to entertain adults with adult themes is not cute and never will be. These children did not enjoy a minute of it. Ellen sunk low..
Eh, my son would probably enjoy that kind of thing.
I doubt it Jack. Let him pick a costume himself instead of choosing for him…
I don’t get him for Halloween, but he’s going as Spongebob when his mom takes him. This was after he asked to go as me for Halloween, lol, and I gently told him he might have more fun as a brighter costume.
My culture is not big on Halloween but we do it for the boys. It is supposed to be fun fun fun and child-oriented themes and not what you saw on Ellen.
I am sure that you son will be much happier as Spongebob than an IPhone Jack. And this will score him more candy too….
Considering how much my son love smart phones I sincerely don’t know. He is going as Spongebob because the second hand costume selection is limited and he hates Spiderman. I’ve only got to be the one taking him trick or treating once, when he was two, and never been able to take my daughter, but I think they have fun with their mother.
If you wanna see real cute, head over to youtube and check out “emotional baby.” She’s crying while her mommy sings to her. (HINT HINT, Mods, future video of the day???)
While the kids on Ellen were cute, it’s true, those are adult themed costumes. I mean really, wrecking ball? Why not Pedo Bear, for that matter? If Ellen had one of her staff dress up, they could have got more Mileage (doh! pun intended) out of the gag by putting a Barbie doll on the ball.
I did get the One Direction joke, so does that make me the cool aunt? LOL!! Hopefully my nieces think I’m cool because I know Peeta is from District 12, not some crazy animal rights group, haha!
Dude you are cool ninek, Hunger Games is an awesome trilogy. I’m an adult man and I still read it, lol.
Okay I just watched that emotional baby video and that seriously is the most precious thing I’ve ever seen (except for things my kids do, of course, haha).
Ah ha! That makes you ‘the cool dad!’
I can’t bear the video of the emotional baby.
I cry right along with her. In a good way I guess.
Jack,
You are such an awesome daddy!!
The little girl that sings You Belong to Me while her daddy plays a pink ukelele so she isn’t scared of fireworks? I WATCH IT EVERYDAY!!
My son just tells me that the radio sounds better when I play guitar for him. :(
I personally enjoy Halloween, I put on spooky music, put out a couple of small decorations & still dress up to answer the door for trick or treaters. This year I’m dressing up as a mental health patient…myself in plain street clothes!

Thanks 9ek for supporting me a little here. Ellen made these children dress up this way so she could entertain adults with a dead battery screen, that one direction and Kanye NW babies and that stunt she pulled on that wrecking ball kid with gesturing come/don’t. I bet my paycheck that the 5-7 year olds represented there had absolutely no clue (and that clip shows as much) what they were wearing and why. And no smiles at all..
That youtube video I just shared with everyone I know…
I totally forgot to wish all who celebrate Halloween to have happy one. Mea culpa….
It’s raining cats and dogs in the Windy City so the trick-n-treating will be very wet…
The trick or treating here was postponed until tomorrow night due to stormy weather.
So I watched the Ellen clip & while the kids were cute (& I thought their costumes appropriate, there are worst costumes out there), Ellen acted like a douchbag towards some of the kids, especially the one dressed like a wrecking ball, that wasn’t very nice of her to tease the kid like that.
The kids were funny but I turned off Ellen long ago. I dont enjoy her show.
Well I am so glad that I received affirmations here for my observations on this sorry “halloween” episode. My male brain must be doing something right.
Ellen treated those children as a means to an end. She was not genuine…
