Pro-life video of the day: Man asks for $50k not to have baby aborted

Pro-life protesters had an unsettling interchange with a couple going into an Aurora, Illinois, abortion clinic.
A man cordiallly approached them, saying he and his significant other were there for an abortion because they already had a child and couldn’t afford another. Asked if he didn’t know he was having his child killed, he readily said “Yes.” When the questioner offered to take the child, he smiled and refused. “We’re not gonna give it away,” said the woman.
Which propted the man to say: “I’ll make a deal with you, man. You give me $50,000, I’ll keep this baby.”

I’ve been in a similar situation in front of an abortion place. It’s a negotiation like any other. Make a counter offer, agree to an amount, and get a legally binding contract drawn up. Include a provision to make incremental payments depending upon markers like pre-natal visits, like applying for jobs. Likely he was not sincere, and likely he wouldn’t believe you meant it, but we need to be prepared for such moments. Think Schindler’s List.
I just watched the video. The male sidewalk counselor blew it. As soon as he said this was a “deal with the devil” the couple was instantly done talking. (Who was the devil? The father?) The opportunity was lost. They voluntarily came down to talk. Sidewalk counselors should make really offering help the first priority and preaching a distant second. I hope the sidewalk counselor in the video will seriously think about what happened and how to avoid turning people away next time. We all make mistakes in this work, but we should learn from them.

Oh how sad..the Dad walked over to be talked out of it. THe sidewalk counselor’s pride got the better of him. Oh if only the dialogue would have gone differently. The Dad wanted to know that he could do this..he kept saying it’s not my choice…he felt cornered. Oh Lord have mercy. I pray the counselor’s heart is softened next time..accusing someone of making a deal with the devil hardens their heart. Insert Love where this is none…Thanks to the counselor though for his hard work and sacrifice.
