Pro-life vid of the day: Court upholds TX defunding of Planned Parenthood
UPDATE 1/11, 6:30p: Great news! A judge has ruled that Texas can continue defunding Planned Parenthood while the lawsuit is in progress!

Now that the State of Texas is taking over the remaining 90 percent of the Women Health Program’s $40 million budget from the federal government, it is excluding funds for abortion performing facilities. A request by Planned Parenthood for a temporary restraining order has been denied because it “failed to demonstrate that it would suffer an immediate and irreparable injury from being excluded from the program.”
The ongoing court battle continues tomorrow, January 11.

There needs to be better reporting of this specific story. I had heard that a ‘last-minute’ legal move was attempted by PP as the Dec 31 deline approached, and that failed, so Jan 1 was supposed to have been the cessation, but then I thought I had heard that the cessation had been suspended due to yet another legal maneuver.
I had also heard that a specific woman had filed a suit against Texas for not letting her go to her choice of provider for Texas women’s health plan benefits/care, and this was filed at end of December.
So, I would ask for careful, full-context coverage of this case if anyone is going to attempt to say anything about it.
This is very complicated, legally, like the Phil Kline / Kansas story.

As I said, it was an ongoing story. But as noted in the update, it’s not looking good for P.U. The judge turned down the attempt for an injucnction, saying there was little likelihood they would prevail at trial.
