Tommy Connolly, a 23-year-old Australian college student, heard from a 17-year-old cousin he hadn’t seen in 10 years through Facebook last December. “I went and picked her up and she basically started telling me about her situation, which was hard for me to hear because she was my favourite little cousin when I was growing up”. She was living on the streets barefoot, just getting off of drugs, and 32 weeks pregnant.

Proving he is “his cousin’s keeper”, Connolly has suspended his athletic training and worked extra hours to care for her and her son.

Everyone likes to tell me this is such a big responsibility, but I wasn’t thinking about uni or work or anything, all I was doing was thinking that she needed me. At first when Kayden came into the world I didn’t have an emotional attachment, all I was doing was looking after Kiarna. But I really do care for him and in a way he is my kid, I’ve taken on the father role as you’d imagine. Kiarna does 90 per cent of the work – and if it’s one or two years of my life I have to put on hold to make sure two lives are going to be saved it’s nothing at all.

I just saw a segment on TV about women who are going to ISIS held territory in order to become jihad “brides.” They are going freely. They are purposing to provide lots of jihad offspring for the future of the caliphate.

That got me thinking about the long term effects on our society of a) romantic “luv” and b) “no fault” divorce.

• Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life says the MN Senate has rejected a proposed law to require abortion facilities to be licensed and inspected. The safety of women clearly isn’t as important as that of dogs and cats:
  

  “Abortion centers perform invasive, outpatient surgery,” said MCCL Legislative Director Andrea Rau. “It makes no sense that these surgical centers should be excluded from the health and safety standards that apply to other outpatient surgical centers. This bill is necessary for us to ensure that the very unsafe conditions uncovered in other states never happen in Minnesota….

  The state licenses tattoo parlors, cosmetology salons and even dog and cat breeders — but not abortion facilities,” Rau added. “It is time for this special exemption for abortion to end so that the state can ensure a degree of basic safety for women.”

• Fletcher Armstrong sings the praises of Ratio Christi, a Christian campus organization at the University of North Carolina – Wilmington. The group recently hosted a Genocide Awareness Project:
  

  It was by far the best campus Christian organization we have ever encountered. They… don’t have time for the “pizza for Jesus” tomfoolery that wastes so much time in youth ministry today. Young Christians are very weak because nobody is preparing them to take a stand. But Ratio Christi is different; their unofficial motto seems to be, “We’re trying to pick a fight!” And they are good at it!”

• Big Blue Wave lauds the courage of pro-lifers demonstrating in China:
  

  For about 10 minutes on Saturday, young men and women stood in front of major hospitals in Chengdu, China, holding up red pro-life banners and graphic photos of abortion. After snapping a few photos and capturing the attention of a few passersby, the groups quickly left to keep ahead of local police officers who likely would have arrested them.

  Their goal wasn’t to hold the protest but to start a conversation on social media with photos of their activism. The signs read “Unborn children are children too,” “Men don’t take responsibility, so women abort,” “If unborn children aren’t human, then what is a human?” Other signs depicted the abortion process and images of aborted babies next to the words, “Is this your ‘pain-free’ abortion?” referring to a commonly advertised promise from Chinese hospitals and abortion centers.

• Clinic Quotes features a statement from Dr. Patti Giebink, a board-certified OB/GYN and former abortionist, reinforcing the humanity of the preborn child:
  

  And so you see the necessity of actually lining up the body parts, and making sure that there’s two hands, two feet, the head, the torso, because if I’m missing body parts, then I have to go back and repeat the procedure. And that didn’t happen very often; it was a very rare instance when I had to go back to retrieve more body parts.

• Culture Campaign posts about the growing sentiment that animals deserve the same protection as humans – when not even all humans are given equal protection. Why is it that so many animal rights activists tend to be pro-abortion?
  

  A new public opinion poll shows that 94% of Americans believe that humans have a responsibility to consider animals worthy of protection from harm, while one-third of respondents said that “animals deserve the exact same right as people” — an increase over seven years ago.

• Kansans for Life says George Tiller’s former rubber-stamper abortionist Kris Neuhaus is looking for both pity and money, as she is finding it difficult to secure employment, despite her Master’s in Public Health from the University of Kansas:
  

  In a radio interview Thursday, she elaborated that she has lost her research job “without explanation” and has initiated a second online “fund-me” campaign to raise $100,000….

  Neuhaus touts herself as a martyr who lost her medical license unjustly in the pro-life administration of Gov. Sam Brownback due to her “affiliation with Dr. Tiller.”

  In actuality, Neuhaus was charged in 2009 — during the administration of pro-abortion Gov. Kathleen Sebelius – with violating record-keeping regulations and violating the standard of care for 11 teens obtaining late-term abortions in 2003 at Tiller’s Wichita clinic….

  In yesterday’s radio interview she said she is seeking public funding to help her afford the filing fees required to apply for medical licenses in other states. (Watchout, America!)

  Eighteen months ago, her online campaign raised $63,000 – ostensibly to be used to save her home and pay her legal fees to the Board, at that time billed as $93,000. She has paid nothing to the Board and is protesting the reassessed costs of $31,000 she now owes.

  Her husband is running another donation site to repay attorneys for their pro bono work on her behalf.

Jay and Kateri Schwandt of Michigan joked when they learned they were having another baby after 12 boys that they would be just fine if it wasn’t a girl, because that would be uncharted territory in their experience. But what would be the odds? Well, it was an estimated .02% chance to have 12 boys in a row. It just dropped even lower when their thirteenth was born a few days after Mother’s Day.

I followed my trainer to the lab where products of conception (P.O.C.) were inspected to make sure the doctor removed all the bits that, if left behind, could cause an infection. My trainer made a point to show me the tiny arms and legs floating in the glass baking pan. At 10 weeks and beyond, those appendages are formed and clearly recognizable.

Seeing every side, the whole complicated and profound process, I came out more pro-choice than ever. I started to see it from a purely biological standpoint. We were removing an unwanted growth to preserve the woman’s chosen course.

I find it extremely difficult to understand how people who claim to care about women find it so threatening to inform them about accessing affordable health care….

We can all agree that women deserve to have all the information in front of them when they make some of the most important decisions they will ever face.

• Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL) calls out the World Health Organization for falsely associating high maternal mortality rates to legal restrictions on abortion:
  

  … WHO states in its report that “treaty monitoring bodies have … linked elevated rates of maternal mortality to … restrictive abortion laws [and] unsafe or illegal abortion.” But WHO cites only old, and flawed, country reviews. The truth is that maternal mortality depends on the quality of maternal health care, not the legal status of abortion. Some countries prohibit abortion and have very low MMRs; others permit abortion and have very high MMRs. Legalizing abortion is demonstrably unnecessary to improve maternal health and save women’s lives.

• The Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust Blog addresses questions on abortion like, “Isn’t the world already overpopulated?” and “Isn’t it better not to bring a child into the world if there aren’t enough resources?” Answers to these questions often get people on college campuses to re-think their position on abortion.

• Secular Pro-Life wonders why the group calling itself 4000 Years for Choice would try to “make abortion appear to be something innately human, by highlighting how long women have sought out abortions and abortion inducing concoctions.” After all, lots of things – not all of them good – have been around for a very long time:
  

  You know what else was popular in the time of ancient Rome? Slavery, human sacrifice, and mass infanticide. A real hotbed for morality. So what on earth would prompt this organization to promote ancient practices of abortion as proof that abortion is good?

• At the Daily Caller, Michael New says pro-lifers have good reason to oppose Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion:
  

  The federal Hyde Amendment limits the extent to which federal Medicaid funds pay for abortion. However, 17 U.S. states fund elective abortions though Medicaid with their own tax dollars. There is a considerable body of research which shows that Medicaid funding of abortion increases state abortion rates. In 2009, the Guttmacher Institute published a comprehensive review of the research on Medicaid funding of abortion. Of the 18 studies included in the literature review, 15 found that public funding of abortion through Medicaid resulted in statistically significant increases in the incidence of abortion. Additionally, in many states, the percentage of abortions funded by Medicaid is dramatically rising. For instance, between 1990 and 2010 the percentage of abortions performed in Washington state that were paid for by Medicaid increased from 24 percent to over 67 percent.

• Wesley J. Smith is not surprised that the California Medical Association has changed its position on assisted suicide, now claiming to be “neutral” on the issue:
  

  I am not surprised at this downward turn. The CMA has been seriously courting the culture of death for more than forty years. Here’s a quote from a California Medicine editorial from 1970 – published by the CMA – supporting “death selection.” From, “A New Ethic for Medicine and Society”:
  

  The traditional Western ethic has always placed great emphasis on the intrinsic worth and equal value of every human life regardless of its stage or condition . … This traditional ethic is… being eroded at its core and may eventually be abandoned…. [H]ard choices will have to be made… that will of necessity violate and ultimately destroy the traditional Western ethic with all that portends. It will become necessary and acceptable to place relative rather than absolute values on such things as human lives…. One may anticipate… death selection and death control whether by the individual or by society.

• Pregnancy Help News features the story of a heroic teen who chose an open adoption plan against many obstacles, including temporary opposition from the birth father, the baby’s deafness and unfeeling remarks from school friends. Kudos to the pregnancy resource center that ministered to her during this time:
  

  In light of the fact that fewer than 1 percent of teen births end in adoption, Jess, Zoe and Brandi’s story is an important reminder of the great love and sacrifice that birth moms demonstrate when they choose adoption….

[T]he adoption process was fraught “with hope, love heartache, grief and, ultimately, sacrifice.” The first adoptive family she chose “returned” the baby when they was discovered she had incurred significant hearing loss due to an infection Urban had contracted while pregnant. While in the foster care system, however, little “Zoe” learned sign language.

The second set of adoptive parents Urban chose were a gift from God. Both deaf, the Rarus family had three boys and had diligently prayed for a little girl for years. To them, Zoe’s hearing loss turned out to be an added blessing.
