Delighting in death

Why is it that the people most vocally committed to causes connected to death (abortion, assisted suicide, euthanasia) are often the same who are committed to progressive sexual causes? And why do abortion advocates frequently see it not as a necessary evil but as a positive good?…

Make no mistake: The giddy, grinning delight which the Gloria Steinems of this world display concerning abortion is driven by more than just the desire to stop rape victims having unwanted children. It is powered by the grotesque thrill which holding power over life and death brings with it….

Some people seem to take a pride in such things which cannot be explained by merely pragmatic criteria such as convenience and choice. Something deeper, something more spiritual, something more sinister, is at work here.

Catholic St. Norbert College to invite pro-abort Gloria Steinem on campus

St. Norbert Collegeby Carder

It’s so wrong and scandalous. Especially at a Catholic campus…

Because Gloria Steinem is like Margaret Sanger. Or even worse.

She boasted about her own abortion, saying: “it felt positive.”

On another occasion, she said: “There is no organization in this country or the world that is more important than Planned Parenthood.” (NJ.com, Sept. 17, 2011)

And she also said this:

“Approximately one in three women in this country needs an abortion at some time in her life. It should be a part of reproductive rights.” (The Washington Post – Nov. 19, 2013)

So, I’d like to ask you:

How on earth can a woman like Gloria Steinem with such a public pro-abortion record be invited to give a lecture at a Catholic institute, which ought to be a cornerstone in the defense of innocent life?

Boycott! Just say no to Girl Scouts cookies

Pro-lifers have been warning for years of the Girl Scouts’ fraternization with the abortion industry.

wendy-dBut it appears we have late-term abortion supporter Wendy Davis (pictured right) to thank for inadvertently providing the tipping point that has triggered the call for a nationwide boycott of the purchase of Girl Scout Cookies, called “CookieCott 2014.”

The Girl Scouts’ December 18 tweet heard round the wafer is still up, despite the Girl Scouts’ January 29 apology, which came six long weeks after the tweet but just nine convenient days before the launch of its annual cookie sale.

Snapz-Pro-XScreenSnapz033The tweet asked, “Is there anyone you’d add to this list? Incredible Ladies Who Should Be Women of the Year for 2013,” with a link to a Huffington Post article that recommended both Davis and Gloria Steinem (pictured left).

Pro-lifers were immediately incensed. State Senator Wendy Davis, as most know, filibustered a ban in Texas of abortions past 20 weeks this past June.

Tone deaf, the Girl Scouts followed up in a December 30 Facebook post by calling radical pro-abortion HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius a woman of “courage, confidence, and character.”

The Girl Scouts’ obvious first strategy was to try to ignore pro-life complaints. But when announced participants in the boycott – including American Life League, Issues4Life Foundation, Life Coalition International, LifeNews.com, National Black Pro-Life Union, Pro-Life Action League, Radiance Foundation, and moi – reached critical mass – it blinked.

But it’s too late to stop the cookie from crumbling. It’s not as if one aberrant tweet were the Girl Scouts only infraction. LifeNews.com has a long list of the organization’s connections to the abortion industry, as does the CookieCott website, which also has a downloadable flier. Also see mygirlscoutcouncil.com, commentary in the Washington Times by Cathy Cleaver Ruse. and coverage by Megyn Kelly at Fox News.

If your daughter is a Brownie or Girl Scout and you’re learning this information for the first time, there are alternatives such as American Heritage Girls and Frontier Girls.

  • Live Action News discusses the Supreme Court’s decision this week to allow a lower court’s ruling to stand, requiring Texas abortionists to have admitting privileges with local hospitals.
  • Pro-life Action League has a detailed account of yet another Texas abortion clinic that failed its inspections. Among the violations of NARAL member Alamo Women’s Reproductive Services Clinic were the lack of a medical director and the lack of sterilization of hands and instruments.
  • Despite the recent hubbub claiming China was relaxing its One-Child Policy, Reggie Littlejohn at Women’s Rights Without Frontiers points out that even the country’s deputy director of the National Health and Family Planning Commission says the changes are largely insignificant.

  • At The Leading Edge, Brendan Malone shares how a new report on child abuse prevention in New Zealand has become a “Trojan horse” in which abortion, contraception, and family planning proposals have been slipped in as recommendations for the country’s children:

Remember, this is a report that, according to the Government press release, was supposed to have a primary focus on preventing child abuse. With this in mind, the one question I have is: how the heck is mandatory sex education, more liberalized NZ abortion laws and more taxpayer funding of contraceptive schemes that have shown to be abject failures going to do anything at all to prevent child abuse in this country?!

  • At the FRC Blog, Rob Schwarzwalder discusses the very proudly pro-abortion Gloria Steinem and her recent Medal of Freedom award from the also proudly pro-abortion President Obama.

  • At RealChoice, Christina Dunigan shares several excerpts from New York Magazine’s abortion stories. Far from being the heralders of abortion’s greatness, many of these stories point to serious grief and internal conflict.
  • Right to Life of Michigan shares the Heritage Foundation’s information on how abortion will be covered under Obamacare.

  • At The Guiding Star Project, Mallory Severson discusses what it means to be pro-life “in the trenches,” as opposed to those who are on the “front lines” of the movement:

Being in trenches isn’t necessarily easier than on the frontlines. These might be women and families in your own community that you live next to, work with, or see at your child’s school. The intimacy can make it more challenging, and can blur the lines of what is appropriately Pro-Life.

In the trenches, the lines of what is Pro-Life and what is not, is not about what you do, but equally what you don’t do….

You can be Pro-Life in your community by showing support, love, and encouragement to pregnant women and new mothers in all things. Always.

And when we do this, when we show women the kindness and respect their bodies, babies, and children deserve, little by little a culture of life can be transformed from the inside out.

Gloria Steinem ignores biggest reason for missing girls

Gloria Steinem

During her speech at a Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma fundraiser on September 21, liberal feminist icon Gloria Steinem broached an uncomfortable topic for abortion proponents: the pandemic of missing girls.

In 2011, that number was estimated to be 160 million. In her book, Unnatural selection: Choosing boys over girls, and the consequences of a world full of men, pro-abortion author Mara Hvistendahl, a correspondent for Science magazine, blamed ultrasound technology and abortion for the gendercide. This is simply common sense.

I give Steinem points for raising the issue, particularly at a Planned Parenthood event, since it was only last year that a Live Action investigation exposed several PPs around the country as perfectly willing to commit sex-selective abortions.

But I must immediately take back most of those points, because Steinem was dishonest about the main cause of those missing girls, sex-selective abortions. From Steinem’s speech:

There is a son surplus and a daughter deficit because of female infanticide, and there is a huge market in sex trafficking, where the life expectancy is very, very short.

Now if the 160 million missing girls all died by infanticide, there would be piles of dead baby girls on every street corner in many Asian countries. Consider that this number is roughly the population of females in the United States. That’s a lot of girls. Steinem’s claim defies logic.

Gloria Steinem is a smart woman. I know she knows the truth. But liberal feminist abortion pushers can’t acknowledge that abortion is actually devastating to feminism, because to do so would be to shake the foundation of all they stand for.

A phone call from President Obama? Conservative women not holding their breath

The fact is, “slut” is one of the nicer things I’ve been called over 20 years of public life….

Self-serving opponents argue that such attacks do not represent “respectable,” “mainstream” liberal opinion about their conservative female counterparts. But it was feminist godmother Gloria Steinem who called Texas Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison a “female impersonator.” It was NOW leader Patricia Ireland who commanded her flock to only vote for “authentic” female political candidates….

It was Keith Olbermann, then at MSNBC and now at Al Gore’s Current TV, who wrote on Twitter that columnist S.E. Cupp was “a perfect demonstration of the necessity of the work Planned Parenthood does” and who called me a “mashed up bag of meat with lipstick on it.” He stands by those remarks. Olbermann has been a special guest at the White House….

A reporter asked Obama to comment on examples of liberal hate speech at Tuesday’s press conference. He whiffed, of course….

So no, we won’t get any phone calls from Mr. Civility. Acknowledging the war on conservative women would obliterate The Narrative. Enjoy the silence.

“Sex in the City” star to portray liberal feminist Gloria Steinem

I’m grateful that she wants to do it so much, because of the subject matter – because she understands how important sex trafficking and forced prostitution is.

And Linda Marciano’s story can happen to anyone. And that’s my role, I believe, in the movie to say that. So I’m very honored that she wanted to do it….

All I was thinking about was Linda. It didn’t dawn on me that she was playing me…. I think that Sex and the City was one of the few pop cultural admissions that friendship among women is crucial and that has really continuing appeal.

Steinem: Planned Parenthood the most important organization in the whole wide world

The right to choose whether or not to have or not have children is a fundamental human right….

There is no organization in this country or the world that is more important than Planned Parenthood.
