Unprecedented: RNC boss man and bus load to attend March for Life

Reince Priebus

In a surprising but welcome move, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Preibus is, according to The Washington Times:

… delaying the start of the party’s annual winter meeting so he and other committee members can join the March for Life on the Mall….

Mr. Priebus, in his second term as elected chairman of the Republican National Committee, chose to delay the start of the four-day winter meeting of the GOP governing body, also scheduled in Washington, to allow himself and RNC members to attend the march. The delay is unprecedented for a major U.S. political party, several state Republican Party chairmen and other RNC members said in telephone interviews.

Mr. Priebus also decided that the RNC will charter a bus to and from the march for those among the RNC’s 168 members who wish to attend….

I’m, of course, pleased by this visible show of support by the RNC. It will certainly garner the March for Life much deserved attention that MSM usually avoids while demonstrating some respect for the pro-life issue at the Republican leadership level. That this is even news demonstrates the perceived lack thereof. Were Chairman Preibus’s counterpart, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, to announce she were attending an abortion fest sponsored by Planned Parenthood, the response would be, “But, of course.”

Stanek weekend Q: Momentum has shifted in the abortion war, but which way?

  • Clinic Quotes shares an admission from the pro-choice side regarding post-abortion trauma:

Rosemary Candelario, director of Massachusetts Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, on why pro-choice groups often claim that abortion does not contribute to emotional trauma for women:

“I think the fear in the [abortion rights] movement is if we admit abortion is hard for some women, then we’re admitting that it’s wrong, which is totally not the case. I’ve heard from women who are having problems dealing with their abortion who are still ardently pro-choice.”

Planned Parenthood spends $1M+ to defeat pro-life VA gov candidate

mcauliffecuccinelliPlanned Parenthood Votes reported Friday that it spent nearly $1.1 million on a new anti-[Ken] Cuccinelli ad purchase that left the [federal] SuperPAC with only $73,746 to pay its remaining bills totaling $59,919.

Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, has called Cuccinelli’s defeat her “top priority.”

Democrats for Life walks back endorsement of pro-abortion candidate

When last week Live Action blogger Kristi Burton Brown called out Democrats for Life of America for endorsing Virginia pro-abortion Democrat U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine, she received this response from DFLA Executive Director Kristen Day:

We support Chairman Kaine because of his record and work with DFLA. While Governor, Tim Kaine signed the Choose Life Life license plate bill in law. We were proud to work with the Governor to ensure the bill was passed and critical funds could be used to support crisis pregnancy centers. He also signed in to law the Pregnant Women Support Act introduced by Senator Phil Puckett and cosponsored by then Republican Senator Ken Cuccinelli. While Chair of the DNC, he supported pro-life Democrats and his policies help elect pro-life elected officials.

This despite the fact that Kaine’s website states:

  • Virginia’s attorney general Ken Cuccinelli has refused to agree to a Board of Health plan which would allow abortion clinics to avoid meeting new abortion clinic regulations:

In a four-sentence letter to the health department, senior assistant Attorney General Allyson K. Tysinger said that the the office would not certify the regulations.

“The Board does not have the statutory authority to adopt these Regulations,” it says. “[T]he Board has exceeded its authority. Thus, this Office cannot certify these Regulations.”

The action by the attorney general’s office is not the final word on the subject. The regulations, which would require extensive renovations, will continue to go through executive branch review. The attorney general’s office was only the first step in that process.

The dramatic passage of Virginia’s abortion clinic regs bill; will put most out of business?

Guest-posting at LifeSiteNews.com, Americans United for Life’s Dan McConchie wrote of the dramatic passage in the Virginia General Assembly last week of the toughest bill to date in the US regulating clinics that commit first trimester abortions. Backstory: For years pro-life legislation had been been killed in the VA legislature….
