  • Abortion Pill Risks notes a disturbing recent case report which calls into question the safety of off-label use of RU-486 for abortion. The FDA relies on voluntary reporting of serious adverse events of the drug’s use:

A case report published in the July 2013 issue of Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology confirms the discovery of the first known global death case of “Fatal Clostridium septicum following medical termination of pregnancy.”…A number of different off-label or alternative medical abortion regimens have been recommended by providers in the United States. In the United States the FDA has issued public health advisories to warn health care professionals about the risks of sepsis and toxic shock in medical abortion and to reinforce use of the FDA approved regimen which does not include the vaginal use of misoprostol.

  • Texas Senator Wendy Davis seems to think Kermit Gosnell and Douglas Karpen are the same abortionist. When asked by the Weekly Standard about Gosnell, she gave this response:

I don’t know what happened in the Gosnell case. But I do know that it happened in an ambulatory surgical center. And in Texas changing our clinics to that standard obviously isn’t going to make a difference.

Only Gosnell’s clinic was obviously not an ambulatory surgical center. But you know whose is? Texas abortionist Douglas Karpen – the same abortionist who was exposed for killing infants who survive abortion (just like Kermit Gosnell) and has been called the Texas Gosnell. Either Davis got the two confused or she isn’t aware they’re different people.

Crossing the border – both ways – for clandestine abortions

Women who live in parts of Mexico where abortion is illegal have long crossed the U.S.-Mexican border to obtain abortions in U.S. border cities like San Diego, but those numbers might be declining thanks to draconian border security and other changes, [according to] a new study….

Stanek weekend question I: If a fetus has no right to life, how can a dad be charged with murder for attempted abortion?

A tragic story about a terrible man from thebraiser.com, October 18:

Yesterday, Joshua Woodward (pictured right), a former New York City restaurateur and partner of chef Govind Armstrong, was arraigned on charges of attempted murder after he secretly administered an abortion drug to his pregnant girlfriend, who soon miscarried their 13-week-old fetus.

Woodward, who opened Table 8 in the East Village with Armstrong back in 2008, pled not guilty, though he has a really bad case against him. As the NYDN recaps the 2009 case:
