Todd Akin, imperfect hero

Which is worse, slavery or rape?

Answer: Neither. They’re equally despicable atrocities committed by humans against fellow humans.

Last week Joe Biden violated a sacred pain of black Americans by recklessly comparing Republican control of the presidency to a return to slavery. Worse, he attempted black dialect, y’all, to do so.

Biden took some heat for his insensitive remark, but President Obama and Democrats stood by him.

Four days ago Missouri U.S. Senate candidate Todd Akin made a problematic remark about rape victims, and Republicans promptly threw him under the bus.

Abortion supporter: There is nothing, NOTHING to like about Paul Ryan

With so much focus on Ryan’s fiscal austerity (except when it comes to tax cuts for the rich), his extreme position on women’s reproductive rights has faded into the background. Like almost all House Republicans, he has voted in lockstep with his party to deny women access to safe abortion care, contraception, breast exams, and […]

Pro-life news brief 7-27-12

  • Here’s a classic B-word slip in a Slate article discussing how the placenta works, entitled, “Your fetus is an alien”:

[NYU’s Adrian] Erlebacher’s not the only one studying this stuff. [Harvey] Kliman, the Yale researcher, also investigated human placentas, and his findings suggest an entirely different mechanism in play. Kliman suspects that a specific protein in pregnant women, called PP13, acts as a decoy of sorts to trick the mom’s immune system to stay away from the baby.

Campbell Brown in NYT: “Planned Parenthood’s self-destructive behavior”

Former NBC and CNN news anchor Campbell Brown penned a New York Times op ed over the weekend entitled, “Planned Parenthood’s self-destructive behavior.”

With such a favorable title, pro-lifers might be tempted to glam on to Brown as one of us. Not so fast.

Before lodging her complaint against Planned Parenthood, Campbell first gave it kudos. She promoted the United States’ largest abortion provider as really not being about that, stating, “Most of Planned Parenthood’s work focuses on health care for low-income women, things like screenings for breast cancer and diabetes, and family planning.”

To back up that claim Campbell parroted Planned Parenthood’s line that “abortions represent only 3 percent of its work,” when in actuality about 10% of Planned Parenthood clients get abortions, according to FactCheck.org, and 38.4% of its clinic income comes from abortion, according to Live Action.

Campbell also acknowledged in her piece she is pro-abortion.

So what was her gist? That Planned Parenthood has morphed into an arm of the Democrat Party, to its detriment:

Breaking, Gallup: “Pro-choice” Americans at record low – 41%

Fabulous news from Gallup, today:

The 41% of Americans who now identify themselves as “pro-choice” is down from 47% last July and is one percentage point below the previous record low in Gallup trends, recorded in May 2009. Fifty percent now call themselves “pro-life,” one point shy of the record high, also from May 2009.

So while the number of Americans considering themselves pro-life has remained steady since 2009, the number calling themselves pro-choice has dived. Click to enlarge:

Continuing on with Gallup story:

Obama plugs Planned Parenthood in new video

Barack Obama and Planned Parenthood are Siamese twins that share one heart, cold and dark as it is. One cannot survive without the other.

Imagine the dire straits Planned Parenthood would find itself in today without Obama fending off its attackers these past three years. Planned Parenthood’s fortunes rest on Barack Obama. And vice versa. From the Boston Globe, March 27:

Democrats and Republicans are not the same when it comes to pro-life positions

The Republican Party is pejoratively considered the far right wing for two main reasons: Because the majority of us are Christian conservative and because of our pro-life stance. And I think it’s unwise of this movie to try to lump Republicans in with the far left, and the eugenics movement, and alienate the party that […]
