Quote of the Day 12-14-10
Antiabortion activists have relied on questionable science in their efforts to push inclusion of the concept of “post-abortion syndrome” in both clinical practice and law….
Our inability to replicate the findings of the Coleman study makes it clear that research claiming to find relationships between abortion and poor mental health indicators should be subjected to close scrutiny.
~Dr. Lawrence Finer of the Guttmacher Institute (former research arm of the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood), on his analysis of the 2009 National Comorbidity Survey data, as quoted by CBSNews.com, December 14.
Finer is also on the Society of Family Planning’s Board of Directors, which “funds scientific research that can help strengthen family planning policies, services and programs; develops evidence-based clinical guidelines for practitioners; holds an annual meeting in partnership with the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals and the Planned Parenthood Federation of America; and contributes to the publication of the monthly journal Contraception.

Of course the Guttmacher Institute will find a problem with any study that suggests any type of problem with abortion. They are the reporting arm of PP and support abortion in all its forms. After all – it’s their life-blood.
Too bad he picked only Coleman’s work – what about New Zealand’s Fergusson? Researcher Brind? What about the University of Columbo research in Sri Lanka? the study in China? Finland? I am sure the AGI would find a problem with all of them, statistically relevant or not.
What matters is how women are affected, and surprisingly, the abortion supporters want there to be no link – because what matters to them most is the money pouring in.
What they forget is that this was supposed to be about women and children.
We know what they think of the children, and we know now what they think of the women.
I just think it’s hilarious how a man who’s got an extreme pro-abort agenda (as evidenced from his heavy involvement with other pro-abortion organizations) can say “questionable science” with a straight face.
Pro-aborts only think “science” matters when it suits them.
Forget the scientific facts about unborn human life, right?
Also, isn’t it funny how all the studies which come out with evidence that supports what pro-lifers have been saying do NOT get publicized on CBS News or any other MSM outlet. Just LifeNews. But some pro-aborts are STILL insisting there’s no media bias. LOL!! Wow. The willful blindness is staggering.
Dr. Finer…I think YOUR mental health should be subjected to close scrutiny.
Note that Finer does not indicate what is questionable about the science. That’s the drive-by smear done to good science every time. Believe it, if there were a problem with the science, they would have spelled it out in detail.
I’m just curious what is so difficult to accept about Post-Abortion Syndrome. A woman was pregnant, complete with pregnancy hormones. She was struggling with the pregnancy, in many cases under extreme duress because for whatever reason she wasn’t getting the support she needed. She then went and had a medical procedure done in which a life was stripped from her body. What ethically responsible medical provider wouldn’t accept the likelihood of a higher suicide risk?
Why is it that when you give birth to a living baby, they inundate you with warnings about “baby blues” and postpartum depression, but when you give birth to a dead baby, you are expected to go about your routine as though nothing is wrong?
MaryRose – simple answer: abortion = $$$ + political power (which brings more $$$ and control). Abortionists are hired hit men, and every lie necessary to continue the jobs will be said.
God is using abortion as a microscope for mankind to examine the sinful heart of man. If you get a close look, you’ll find it very ugly.
“…Guttmacher Institute (former research arm of the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood”
Oh… when did Guttmacher break off from PP? I thought they were still the research arm of PP?
Chris,
While I understand this, I am still amazed that they’ve managed to bamboozle so many people. I just am constantly shocked by some “study” or other that claims to prove something that makes absolutely no sense.
