Lunch Break: “Pregnant man” visits “The Doctors”
by LauraLoo
Below is the preview for yesterday’s The Doctors episode since no other video is yet available. Thomas Beatie (known as the “pregnant man”) has given birth to three children, and it appears that his childbearing days may be over (according to People Magazine article).
Also, what do you think about wife Nancy and her comment, ”I think every woman would want their husband to carry their baby”?

Thomas Beatie is still biologically a female, not a man. You can’t change your DNA.
Sorry, you can whack off the breasts but if you have a uterus and other female reproductive organs, you’re still a female.
And no, I am not one of those women that desire to see her husband pregnant. My husband is very strong and emotionally he’s solid, but it would gross me out to see him pregnant because he’s a MAN, not a human science project. I just can’t see it and it’s not how God made him. It’s VERY clear in the Bible what physical toils each person is to endure, and childbirth wasn’t on the detailed job description He gave Adam.
On a different note… why do they call these lesbians a heterosexual couple when it’s quite obvious they can’t have heterosexual sex? Wouldn’t it still be considered a homosexual relationship?
Well, I think applying the male pronoun to “Thomas” is giving her a little too much credence. Thomas is still a women, for all her protestations otherwise.
No, I would not give up the privilege and blessing of carrying and bearing my children for anything in the world. It is a blessing, not a curse, to bear children.
Would you guys support a pro-life trans person?
I like the fact that I am female and my husband is male. Being with a man makes me feel all the more feminine. Being pregnant makes me feel VERY womanly. I love carrying my children and feel bad he can’t feel the baby’s kicking and squirming yet. And he will never feel it the way I can and have. Its a special bond with my baby only I will have. Its a memory I will always carry that my husband will never experience. I feel bad for men.
And I have an aunt who lost both her breasts to breast cancer. Is she suddenly a man since she has no breasts? I’ve seen fat men with bigger boobs than me. Breasts do not make us women (even though the playboy culture we live in tries to tell us otherwise). This pregnant woman is just that, a pregnant woman, though very obviously mentally disturbed.
And Elizabeth, what do you mean support? Do you mean approve? no I would not approve. I would welcome them in the fight for unborn children but I would never approve of their obvious mental disorder.
My pregnant husband? No thank you.
I wished sometimes that he could experience what I was but that is for women! What a blessing!
Did I miss the shocking secret??
Don’t leave me hanging y’all.
Gender identity disorder is a legitimate mental illness. What this woman needs is psychiatric treatment–and yes, if it was someone I knew, I would support them through that treatment just like I would support anyone else with mental disorders.
And no, I wouldn’t want to give up the experience of being pregnant for anything.
LOL, Carla, I’m curious to know too! Unfortunately, I’m fascinated by all these tabloid-like talk shows.
I find the fact that they induced lactation on the other wife pretty disturbing. Also, who is the father of these children?
@Elizabeth – I think the whole transgender thing is rather bizarre, but i do not think they should be harrassed or vilified, as they often are. I see one on the bus in the morning, a transwoman, who is well over six feet. Although s/he wears women’s clothing, you can tell that s/he is a male.
I welcome any well-meaning person into the prolife movment, as long as they are committed to nonviolence.
Way to deflect the real issue at hand Elizabeth. Straw-man question.
A hermaphrodite is not trans anything.
I think that we should be able to dress as we wish, but if I wear muddy army boots and a backpack to an interview to be an executive assistant in an advertising firm, the HR person has every right to decide if I am ‘executive material.’
I don’t oppose transgender surgery in the same way I oppose abortion because the adult is an adult. What I do find fault with are all the doctors and psychologists who are exploiting mentally ill people for financial gain. And I find fault with all the politicians who are pandering to the mentally ill for their campaign contributions and their votes. Body image disorders cannot be treated by surgery and any of us who know transgendered people, we know that their problems were not solved by the surgeon’s scalpel. If transgendered people, lesbians, and gay men want to join us in the fight against abortion, I welcome them! But do I think an unhappy woman like Chaz Bono is now whole? Nope. If you don’t want to be a feminine girl, so what? Wear pants! But surgery? You’re just making an unethical doctor a little richer and confusing the young people you think you’re helping by your example. Many trangendered people experience catastrophic and life-shortening illnesses after their ‘sexual reassignment’ surgery in addition to severe mental and emotional problems. Apparently it’s a well kept secret, but not to all the nurses working the night shift in the psych ward.
I know women that breastfed their adopted babies so that part I am cool with but was wondering the same thing.
Who is the daddy?
They got a sperm donor, I believe. The kids call Thomas Daddy.
I asked my wife if she would have rather had me carry the kids than her. She is still laughing. Apparently men are too whiny for childbirth. :)
Humans would have died out a looooong time ago if men could get pregnant.
LOL
If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, has DNA results that come back from the lab that say it is is duck, it’s a duck, even if the duck tries to convince you it is a pig, and pays someone an obscene amount of money to dress it up in a very expensive, very life-like pig costume.
There have been times that I wished I could take “shifts” carrying my children with my husband :p
Any ethical doctor would not encourage or prescribe plastic surgery for the anorexic or bulimic to force their bodies to match their warped body ideal. They would be drummed out of practice if they did! So why is “Sex change therapy” ok?!?! Why does this make sense to ANYBODY???
If a doc dares suggest that a gender confused person should thank God for the way He created them and embrace His will in their lives instead of enduring dangerous drug therapy and plastic surgery to artificially force their body to match their sick mental image of themselves he would be sued into the gutter! This is a very warped and sick world. It just proves that the whole LGBT movement is not based in science or truth but politically and sexually driven.
That lifestyle consistently shows higher rates of domestic violence, suicide, violent death, and all the same risks of intravenous drug use. It’s dangerous and deadly! Not natural at all! I pray for those afflicted by this disorder. They are so at risk :(
Dirtdartwife, what is the real issue at hand then? This is a post about a transperson carrying a pregnancy. It seems to me that all the comments bashing transpeople aren’t really focused on the real pro-life issue at all.
That is because this is a “lunch break” segment, Elizabeth. We don’t talk exclusively about abortion all the time here.
Bashing? Taking a mentally ill person’s money and castrating him so he can believe he’s a woman is a lot worse than commenting that I think the doctor is unethical and greedy. Members of our medical community are using our insecurities and mental illness to cash in. Is that ok? For the same reason, I don’t think what happened to Chaz Bono was ok. I don’t think the media calling Beatie a “man” is ok. This is just another way to treat having children the same as buying a car or a pair of shoes. It devalues children and makes them things upon which people can make money.
Being pro-life doesn’t mean I want more babies at any and all costs. I’m opposed to IVF and even to sperm donation because it dehumanizes people. We are not commodities. We are not objects. We may be the most intelligent mammals on the planet, but sometimes we’re just plain stupid.
TheChristianHippie: There have been times that I wished I could take “shifts” carrying my children with my husband :p
:) No doubt. I’m sure some women would, and some would not, and some – maybe just want a respite somewhere in there…. ;)
I gotta say the “pregnant man” deal does stick in my craw a bit…
“He” will ALWAYS be a she because that’s how God made her. LL
Oh my goodness…Doug….could it be that you and I have something….IN COMMON?!!
Homosexuals have made a big mistake grouping themselves into an “LGBT” community. The “T” is considered by most to be a form of mental illness. And that would make them only a bit lesser “gender confused”
Transgender surgery is only a little more outragously wrong than “trans-racial” surgery would be.
This couple would be truthful in describing their relationship to their children as living a “let’s pretend” life every day.
Oh. And childbirth is for mommies. Smelling salts is for daddies.
Right. I understand that this was a “lunch break” post – a bit of a break from the norm. Why was my question singled out as being a straw man argument, however?
I’ve never heard someone say that being transgender is a mental illness. Is it in the DSM?
Yes. Gender identity disorder is the medical term for it. It most definitely is in the DSM IV. Political correctness may result in getting rid of the entry in the DSM V, though.
I don’t see it as a good idea. It seems to be in the same category as other types of body dysmorphias in how it manifests. For example, there is a rare mental disorder where a person feels that a perfectly healthy limb is somehow an extra appendage and needs to be removed. There are doctors out there who believe that if they just get the limb amputated, they will be fine and go on to lead perfectly normal lives. Sounds similar to the idea of “cut off a woman’s breasts, give her testosterone pills and call her a man” to me.
isnt his 15 minutes of fame up yet? ive heard enough aboutthis already. please go away.
Oh my goodness…Doug….could it be that you and I have something….IN COMMON?!!
Xalisae, I have it on good information that little devils are on ice skates….
Right on, Kate!
Doug! That last comment gave me a good chuckle! :>) !!
lol, Doug. You quack me up. ;P
