Mike Wallace (R.I.P.) interview with Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood
Veteran reporter Mike Wallace has passed away on this Easter Sunday. One of his most revealing reports came from an interview with Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger.
It’s worth a watch.

I think in this picture, Maragret Sanger kind of looks like Maw Maw from Raising Hope :-P Anyone else?
If you have not seen the documentary Maafa21 PLEASE watch it.

I was speechless after watching it and it absolutely changed the way I think about PP and their “reproductive health care.”
If you do not believe that Sanger has little to do with Planned Parenthood you are wrong!! Eugenics, eugenics, eugenics!! Exterminate the African Americans(“human weeds” she called them!)
PP tries to distance themselves from her yet continues to give out the Margaret Sanger award!
I can’t get the Margaret Sanger video to play.
I love how the video begins with a cigarette ad. So old school.
Seriously, how much did Philip Morris have to pay to get mentioned that much? Felt like he was shoving them down my throat!!!
Sorry, I know this is a wild tangent:
I have a friend who has a manager at his work (he’s in a lower management position himself) who he was having a conversation with, and at the conclusion of this interaction, she punctuated her statement by saying “f-ing Catholics” in an authentically disdainful manner. She runs in a very tight clique with the rest of the managers there, and it looks as though even though this statement was brought to the attention of HR, nothing is going to come of it because all of the managers are sticking together. This attitude bothers my friend, because he’s not currently practicing, but comes from a Catholic background, and many of his employees are also Catholic. Is there anyone to talk to who could help him if he wanted to try and prove some sort of discrimination based on religious preferences? The department of which he’s the junior manager tends to get poor treatment, and this has put a few things into perspective. Any contact information for someone who could help would be greatly appreciated.
Tell him to first confront that manager about it, perhaps he can get the manager to stop thinking like that. If not, go all the way through the chain of command in an honest, open fashion. If nobody will do anything at any level, HR to president, well, the whole business is rotten to the core and tell the management that unless they stop, he and perhaps his fellow employees will stop giving their service to a hostile work environment and tell their customers of what the company thinks about Catholics… Don’t rely on some random law or legal proceedings, try to correct them or make them realize that that’s no way to conduct business. If all else fails, find another business to work for. It’s easy for me to say and hard for him to do, but it’s the right thing.
I consider religious bigotry just as awful as any other kind of bigotry. Would those people make statements like “f-ing Latinos” or “f-ing women” and have HR ignore it? I doubt it. I think Chris has some great ideas on how to deal with it. Hopefully he will get people to realize that all bigotry is wrong and creates a hostile work environment.
I would definitely work within the organization – and help them see the human-face of Catholics. The Thomas Law Society may deal with this if you need legal representation – but i would do the legal route as a last resort. your friend should also start documenting comments, and to please be sure his work is 110% – as once they determine that he may be hostile, they may try to build a case against him.
Honestly, I think it’s this manager – and that can make life hell – but if your friend prays before, during and after speaking with the powers that be, it’ll help the situation totally.
he can also go back to the person who made the comment – saying something like: I was pondering our conversation earlier… I was wondering about your comments about ‘f-ing Catholics’ – (say ‘f’ -ing not what f stood for)…I was wondering why you’d say that. and wait. Could yield volumes – and he could self-identify as a Catholic and say that that manager should not refer to her personnel in such a manner…. (nicely, with a smile (genuine) of course). Just some random thoughts. Let us know how this goes).
I’ll pass this along. Thank you all.
Carla, thanks for the link. I’ve been meaning to watch it and now they offer it online for free!
It really helps put things together very smoothly–I was missing some of the history gaps before.
Yes…thank you Carla. I just finished watching it. It needs to be shown on television or in movie theaters, but I’m sure it will never be.
Hey xalisae –
Having done my fair share of time in middle management (retail) I would advise against confronting the manager directly. It’s not necessarily a “risk” but it is probably going to be ineffective at best, and of course your friend faces potential retaliation from this clique of managers. This is precisely the sort of situation that HR is supposed to defend against – the “what do I do” concerns.
It sounds like he already contacted HR and they did a cursory examination of the situation and asked some of the managers, who are all denying it now. He should still be able to document the complaint so that there is an official record of what he claims happened; and he should definitely use the phrase “hostile work environment.” Sometimes HR can also mediate a conflict, which is sort of the “official” version of confronting the manager directly – you get a chance to say what you want to say and they get to respond but there is someone there keeping things kosher, and there is a disincentive for retaliatory bull from the manager once it’s all on the table and the company is involved.
Just my $.02
Joy from illinois did you mean the Thomas More Society? They are lawyers who work with many pro-life, pro-Catholic organizations. Xalisae, they are a part of the Pro-Life Action League. Jill may have a direct link to the Pro-Life Action League listed on this blog under Top Sites and from their website you should be able to get to a link to Thomas More Society. Or ask Pro-Life Action League to send you their contact info.
The ACLJ and The Rutherford Institute handle hostile work environment cases along these lines.
Why is he asking Sanger how to cut down the divorce rate? SHE WAS DIVORCED! She showed utter disdain for her husband and marriage in the interview. And I think it was chilling when she said the greatest sin was “bringing children into the world” and here she paused and then added children with disease who have “no hope of being a human being”. THERE is the soul of PP right there in that nasty, bitter, old lady.
I watched that video while I held and nursed my 3 week old son. She droned on and on about the burden of pregnancy and children and I just looked at my son’s sweet little face and wondered how someone could consider such a blessing to be a burden? Or that bringing this baby into the world was the worst sin I could commit? Sanger was an evil old fool.
Sanger had a childfree mentality before it was cool.
jack, I hope you watch that Maafa21. You argued with me before on facebook that Darwin was not the same as eugenics and that Darwin didn’t help pave the way for abortion. I think this movie pretty clearly illustrates that he certainly did.
I don’t remember my exact words, but I would differentiate between Darwin’s theory and modern day evolutionary theory. And eugenics and social darwinism are not the same thing as modern evolutionary theory, nor did they ever have any real evidence-based backing.
Just like the “Curse of Ham” was the basis for a lot of racism among Christian southerners, and atomic theory in physics led to the atom bomb, stuff gets misused, twisted, and sometimes people go the wrong way. Scientific theories, like everything else, can be misconstrued, twisted and corrupted. Modern evolutionary theory has as little to do with eugenics and social darwinism as modern day chemistry has to do with the Rutherford model of the atom. Which is to say, its inaccurate and a complete misrepresentation of the facts and the theories.
Alexandra-
A huge part of the problem is that the HR director is in the same clique with the managers there. How do you fix a problem when what is supposed to be a watchdog is actually a fox guarding the hen house?
