I usually like LauraLoo’s Lunch Breaks, but why this? Why why? Because some terrible singer who became famous for being stupid had a baby? Lots of women have babies, and they don’t make millions from it either. Thumbs down!
Hi Sandy, I agree with you about the absurd amount of money being thrown at her for reproducing and resizing herself to prebaby weight. I’m just reporting the news since it relates to one of our topics. Thanks for your comments! LauraLoo ;)
I don’t know, I kind of support celebrities who want to sell the first pictures. It takes that money out of the hands of paparazzi. I have worked in some situations with some very famous people and I was absolutely STUNNED at how awful the paparazzi are, to be around and work around. I can’t imagine living my life being followed by them, much less having my children deal with them.
I was always one of those “get a grip, you’re famous, what did you expect?” people when it came to complaints about these things, until I dealt with it firsthand in work situations. They shout horrible vulgar profane things – I grew up in NYC and work in a somewhat rough industry, but I still blushed hearing some of the things they say – just hoping to shock some celebrity or her child into looking their way at the very moment the flash goes off. I have even had paparazzi grope me in private areas to try to startle me into moving out of their way for just that one second, that one moment long enough to get a picture. It’s just awful. And even when the paparazzi themselves are not awful, the experience is. It’s like living in a strobe light, the constant flashing of the cameras – it’s very disorienting.
So I kind of applaud any effort to minimize the profits of that kind of behavior. No, Jessica Simpson doesn’t need the money. But I’d rather she get it than some guy who harassed the crap out of her and stalked her in the first days of her new daughter’s life. I don’t really understand the public interest in these kinds of stories or pictures but for whatever reason, it’s there, and I’d rather the money go to someone whose behavior is at least natural and normal (having a baby, losing the weight) than to someone whose behavior is terrible and abnormal. Ideally she would donate the profits, like Angelina Jolie did when she sold the first pictures of her baby, and turn something sick into something good.
Actually, she IS a GREAT singer. She just sings horrible songs. She really REALLY needs to remake “A Boy Named Sue” and call it “A Girl Named Maxwell.”
