Wow! I know I felt anger as I saw him standing behind the president with ashes on his forehead. Yes, we are all sinners but we are not proud of our sins. The ashes are a sign of repentance. So Joe what about it. Just think if abortion was given up for lent!
That’s classic. Joe just doesn’t get it.
Skeptic that I am, the question that comes to mind is:
Has Joe Biden done the ashes thing consistently in previous years or is this the first time or the first time in many years?
second question: Where is the ‘sackcloth’?
[Maybe Joe’s undies are made from a burlap bag.?.
Boxers or briefs, Joe?]
Third question:
Is Joe Biden B.O.’s ‘Jack-o-Lent’?

He really troubles me … in the end he is just like all the other liberals.
Ken, Biden had ashes last year. Don’t know whether he gets them annually or only when he’s got a photo op.
John Kerry was seen with ashes during his bid for the presidency as well.
The ashes tell us that in some way they recognize that we are indeed sinners and in need of repentance.
However, having said that, there is also a very serious problem (no secret to pro-lifers) that many pro-abort “catholic” politicians on both sides of the aisle are simply ignorant–possibly willfully–of the teachings of the Church. Given that most of the pols are usually not stupid people it seems that their ignorance is willful.
We are in crisis.
Well I will give Biden credit for consistency at least twice in a row.

Ken, for all you know, Biden does this every year. No one cared before, that’s all. Gotta love the pro-choice Catholics.
Wearing ashes on one’s head is supposed to be a symbol of one’s intention to do penance during the penetential season of Lent. That would mean that Biden needs to heal that which ruptures his relationship with God.
Repenting of his protection of the legal institution that is responsible for over 50 million slaughtered babies would seem a pretty good place to start.

“Ken, for all you know, Biden does this every year.”

HAL,
If your assertion is correct then that would make Joe Biden consistently inconsistent.
In New Orleans, ‘Mardi Gras'[which is probably French for ‘very grateful’ or ‘more grace’] is celebrated on Fat Tuesday, which is the day before Ash Wednesday, the advent of Lent.
People indulge in as much debauchery as possible to get the most bang for their buck during Lent when they ask for ‘more grace’ for the prior years ‘sins’.
Even an atheist can see how superficial such calculated behavior is.
This is ‘religion’ at it’s worst and yet another example that humans are stupid.
At least the revelers at Mardi Gras harm themselves and the few innocent non-participants who are unfortunate to cross their paths.
Joe Biden’s sin perpetuates a willful violence against the most helpless and innocent among us.
At least Joe acknowledges the presence of ‘sin’, even if fails to acknowledge his.

I don’t get it.
Ken, just so you know, “Mardi Gras” has nothing to do with grace, other than those that celebrate it are going to need it. “Mardi Gras” means “Fat Tuesday” in French.
“Mardi” is French for “Tuesday”. It is called that after the Roman god Mars (in Latin, Tuesday is “dies Martis”) who the day was sacred to in Ancient Rome. The vikings named the day after the Nordic god Tyr, which is where we get Tuesday.
“Gras” is French for “fat”. It’s taken from the Latin word “gravis”, which means “heavy”.
“Gras” is after “Mardi” because most of the time adjectives and adverbs are put after the word they describe in Latin languages. There are a few exceptions, but I’m not going to get into that here. The structure of the English language generally comes from the Germanic and Scandinavian languages. We do get a lot of words from Latin, but the days of the week are not among those. Instead, those, too, come from Germanic and Scandinavian roots.
Although, I do find that cartoon rather funny. However, as I remember, Biden isn’t necessarily for abortion, he just believes he can’t “impose” on other people’s beliefs, which, granted, is just as bad. At least previous statements show that he IS against public funding for abortion, which would mean that he’s anti-Obamacare, anti-Title X funding for Planned Parenthood, and every other legal imposition Obama and his pro-abort cronies have made in wasting our money by promoting abortion.
I think spending too much time in politics in any party can persuade a person to be for that party’s faults. That’s just one reason why political parties shouldn’t exist. Our forefathers should have listened to George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, and James Madison. We wouldn’t be in this mess today if it weren’t for partisan politics. Factions only seek to faction, and never to union. If we actually voted for people on the issues and didn’t focus on which party they’re in, or even whether or not they were in a party, the US would be a MUCH better place.
You know what, I won’t condemn Biden for his practice of the faith. He’s dead wrong on abortion, and his position opposes the Catholic Church’s unwavering teaching. (He’s also wrong on other matters, too, but to the degree they’re political matters and involve correct involvement of the state in people’s lives, there’s no objective moral truth.)
However, I would much rather have Biden attend Mass regularly, receive ashes on Ash Wednesday (which is not a Holy Day of Obligation, by the way), and be exposed to the grace of God in the Sacraments, however imperfectly they may be received. I am not a Biden defender, but he does not go to Mass to prove anything to other people. He didn’t wear the ashes to highlight “Hey, Look at me! I went to Mass!” but because he is not ashamed to wear the cross of Christ publicly. We should pray for Biden, ask that the graces he is exposed to convert his heart and help him to courageously defend the unborn, and not be surprised when Lent 2011 arrives and Biden is spotted with ashes on his forehead.
On the other hand, if Barry showed up with ashes, after not bothering to darken the entrance of a church for the last 1.5 years, that would be offensive pandering.

Thank you for correcting my error on the meaning of the French/Latin words.

..and the CARNIVAL celebration that starts off about a week before Mardi Gras, basically means “to remove meat”…
But somehow, Carnival and Mardi Gras activities have strayed very far from their original roots of preparing for Lent.
It is now another excuse to party.
