Stanek Sunday quote: “Blessed are you when people hate you, avoid you, insult you, and slander you.” Luke 6:22
Blessed are you when people hate you, avoid you, insult you, and slander you because you are committed to the Son of Man.
Rejoice then, and be very happy! You have a great reward in heaven. That’s the way their ancestors treated the prophets.
~ Luke 6:22-23, God’s Word translation

It is entirely possible for an atheist to believe abortion should be criminalized. Scientific evidence supports the contention that a human life is in place very early in the pregnancy — perhaps at conception but certainly early — and it is possible to argue that pregnant females are obligated to carry that life to term because the right to its life is more important than any suffering or horror of the female who does not want to carry to term.
Took the words right out of my mouth, Denise! ”Keep your rosaries off my ovaries” is a ridiculous slogan on so many levels. For one thing, most pro-lifers aren’t Catholic. For another, abortion has nothing whatsoever to do with ovaries. Anyone who uses that slogan broadcasts their ignorance for all to hear.
Lovely blog name where the graphic came from. Sheesh. God bless that poor woman.
Gee, I keep my rosary in my hand while I pray.
But seriously, all abortion advocates can do is make catchy slogans. They don’t have much else.
An easy request to follow. I can think of no circumstances where my rosary would come in contact with an ovary.
Even more ridiculous is they are saying we are not allowed to pray to end abortion. Why are they so threatened by prayer? If they are atheists – then why care. If they believe God allows abortion – then again prayer is no threat. This sign only has meaning if they accept that abortion is wrong and that prayer is a powerful tool towards ending it.
One of the funnier frustrated and candid reactions I’ve heard to this slogan came from a PFL priest who was musing one day and burst out with: “‘Get your rosaries off my ovaries.’ — what a *stupid* thing to say! I don’t want to get my rosary anywhere near your ovary, madam!” :D
“Feminist Sl*t”?
Classy.
I think it means don’t force your Roman Catholic beliefs on other people. However, the movement to outlaw abortion is not inextricably linked to Roman Catholicism. A true attempt to force Roman Catholic beliefs on those outside the Church would mean forcing people to attend mass or accept baptism. That’s not at issue in the United States. The slogan is irrelevant to the abortion issue.
The slogan makes about as much sense as many leftist slogans and editorial cartoons–no basis in reality; just cutesy, brain dead, intellectually bankrupt nonsense.
This being Sunday….in Mark VII our Lord says deceit and foolishness are things that come out of the heart of man and difiles him. Most pro-choice justification for abortion falls into these categories: the arrogance of willing self deceit and foolishness. Hence the silly “keep your rosaries off my ovaries”.
My mom and dad prayed the rosary. I did too when Daniel was so sick. If I could draw really well I’d draw a picture of a pre-born with his or her own weapon and in captions I would put “I’m beginning to get a little p.o.’d.” Or another caption could read ” Bring it on” and the pre-born could have a little water gun in one hand and a little sword in the other.
It’s not even an accurate picture of a rosary. . . . . . .
i say this. if they dont want government intervention……keep your laws off my body …then i say keep my tax dollars out of your abortions.
The title “Feminist Slut” could indicate one of several things. Sometimes slur words are employed by people inside the group, as the author of a book about the infamous N-word observed, as terms of affection because a certain amount of humility is required for intimacy.
Feminists are often derided as man-haters. However, man-hating has traditionally been connected to sexual conservatism as seen in pre-1970s films such as “Marnie” and “The Night of the Iguana.” The new-fangled post-1970s feminism is not sexually conservative, at least not necessarily so. The word “slut” is used to connote the belief in so-called “sexual freedom” for females.
“Keep Your Rosaries Off My Ovaries” might be an effective slogan because some people dislike the Roman Catholic Church. That dislike can be used as a distraction from the real questions surrounding what one author correctly called “this tormenting issue.”
Hi, Denise: You’re correct that it’s kind of a straw man argument. As you noted in your first post, one of course does not need to be religious to be prolife. In fact, I’m not really sure WHY the abortion issue has become so infused with religion. I’m Catholic and prolife, but I’m not really prolife because I’m Catholic. I used not to be prolife! I’ve just given the issue alot of thought and have kind of “converted.”
Having said that, I’ll take it as an unintended compliment that rosaries are associated in abortion supporters’ minds with the prolife cause. :)
The vast majority of anti-choicers are people of ‘faith’. The catholic church is one of the leading religious institutions speaking out and organising against abortion.
Therefore a basic catchcry telling anti-choicers to keep their religious convictions to themselves and stop interfering in others lives covers a lot of territory.
Reality, I was an agnostic for awhile but I was still prolife. My parents are very religious (going to church every Sunday, etc.,) but they are very pro-abortion. You just can’t make generalizations.
BTW, I am not nor have I ever been a Catholic, but I can attest to the good things the Catholic church does, like feeding the poor, helping the homeless, and providing care for individuals with AIDS (yes, including gay men).
@Kelsey
“abortion has nothing whatsoever to do with ovaries”
That’s not quite correct; ovarian cancer (like uterine cancer, breast cancer and cervical cancer) is one of many medically recognized physical risks of induced abortion. Also the ovaries are certainly impacted (to put it mildly) by the emergency hysterectomies some post-abortive women have to undergo to save their lives from abortion related injuries and infections.
Abortion affects more than just the uterus; remember, it’s a blind procedure, for the most part; and wombs get punctured/perforated, bowels get caught in suction tubes and mutilated, etc. Young women killing the first child they conceive sometimes suffer cervical compromise, which puts them bedridden during subsequent pregnancies due to cervical incompetence. Increased risk of future tubal pregnancies is another risk; it doesn’t take much scar tissue at all to block a fallopian tube…a nice, totally unpredictable setup for a tubal pregnancy. For which she will test positive, but if she goes for an abortion, the abortionist will just empty the womb; she will assume that she is no longer pregnant until the tube ruptures and she dies. I know of one woman who was turned away from an abortion by a sidewalk counselor. A few weeks later she returned to the mill just to thank the sc for saving her life. Sc asked what she was talking about, and learned that after leaving the mill, she had gone to a real, competent doctor who had diagnosed the tubal pregnancy (evidently abortionists don’t bother checking for these things) and removed it just in time to save at least her life; in those cases, of course, it is impossible to save the baby as well.
Just another way abortionists lie and women die.
I could go on and on with this; moral of story: It’s not nice (or smart) to foul Mother Nature.
I promise to keep my Rosaries (if any) Off Your Ovaries, if you keep your GASH OFF MY CASH. Spend your own damn money on your personal life.
