ACOG: Women think birth control is better than it really is

There’s a good chunk of women who overestimate the effectiveness of the pill and condoms. About 45% of a group of 4,500 women looking to use these methods as a way to not have babies, put too much faith in these anti-baby having products. problem, science says, is that people conflate “ideal use” and “typical use.”

“We need to do a better job of educating the public – women and men – on the failure rates with typical use,” explains researcher David Eisenberg.

So here’s some education, ladies. On the Pill, the pregnancy rate with “typical use” is about 9% per year and using condoms, it’s between 18-21%. A lot higher than you thought, right?

Ominous Planned Parenthood fundraising appeal details recent pro-life victories

Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards sent a fundraising email this morning under an ominous caption…

I guess standing with Planned Parenthood is not supposed to be fun but frightening, kind of like watching a scary murder movie…

Indeed, the letter was intended to frighten Planned Parenthood supporters that their beloved organization and cause were losing ground at great speed by listing recent pro-life accomplishments. Of course, reading this list had the opposite effect on me, as I’m sure it will you:

American Horror Story TV series criticized for demonizing abortion

The most terrifying aspect of American Horror Story isn’t the shocking gore or gasping plot twists.

When our reproductive rights face a daily barrage of attacks, it’s frightening that the series so blatantly perpetuates myths surrounding the fear, stigma and shame of abortion and pregnancy.

College pro-life group threatens legal action for desecration of cross display

During the predawn hours of April 20, Western Kentucky University student Elaina Smith desecrated a display that had been erected by pro-life group Hilltoppers for Life by draping condoms over each of the 3,700 crosses that had been constructed to memorialize the number of children killed each day by abortion in the U.S.

Hilltoppers had received permission from the university for their display.

  • In the Washington Times, Cathy Cleaver Ruse discusses the depths of Representative Jerrold Nadler’s ignorance:

Mr. Nadler did make one concession at the committee meeting. “On the other hand,” he said, “an 8-month-old fetus or a 9-month-old fetus, in my opinion, is a human being.” Some concession. Can we not in 2012 call even a nearly born infant a human being as a matter of fact rather than opinion?

Planned Parenthood fears it has been stung again – this time on sex selective abortions

Planned Parenthood thinks it has been the target of another pro-life undercover sting, this one on sex selective abortions.

On April 23 Planned Parenthood’s Vice President of Education Leslie Kantor and Senior Medical Advisor Carolyn Westhoff coauthored an attempt to preempt an exposé they think may be coming in an RH Reality Check op ed:

Adultery promoter seeks temptress for Tebow

As a former sports attorney I have seen with my own eyes the night in and night out temptations that are placed in front of professional athletes.

Couple that with having to play on the hottest stage in sports and his limited talents, and I thought: ‘Why not challenge his personal notions’… which to me are not aligned with where we are currently within our own society.

~ Noel Biderman, founder of the extramarital dating website AshleyMadison.com, remarking on his offer of $1M to any woman who can provide proof of a sexual encounter with Christian NY Jets quarterback Tim Tebow (pictured above), as quoted by The Christian Post, April 25

Republican Congressman… Chris Smith provided indisputable evidence of the victory: AIDS prevention events in African countries achieve successful results when they are founded upon abstinence and fidelity. From the House of Representatives, Smith drew a bill to revive the President’s Emergency Plan for HIV/AIDS.

After citing the reports of the U.S. State Department and the Department of Health and Human Services – which prove the infallible measure of abstinence and fidelity in these programs – Smith pointed out that both measures have been an important factor to halt the spread of AIDS in Uganda, Kenya and Zimbabwe. These three provinces have shown declining HIV/AIDS spread rates. Reports indicate that this decline is due to the extension of abstinence and fidelity.
