War on Women, Extreme Edition: prison for miscarriage?

Following the devastating Democrat rout last week, commentators on both sides of the political spectrum have proclaimed the “war on women” battle cry dead.

While abortion enthusiasts may now be forced to retire that exact terminology, and while they may also be forced to temper their hysterical push for free contraceptives (also because the new Republican “let’s offer them over-the-counter” counter-offensive terrifies Planned Parenthood), rest assured they will repackage the message.

In fact, they already have.

  • Michael New reflects on the progress of the pro-life movement in 2013:

Overall, according to the Guttmacher Institute, 70 state-level pro-life measures were enacted in 2103. This makes 2013 the second most productive year on record in terms of the number of pro-life laws that were passed. Overall, there were more pro-life laws enacted between 2011 and 2013 than in the entire previous decade.

  • The current CEO of Massachusetts Planned Parenthood is a former legislator who sponsored abortion clinic buffer zone legislation. There’s one problem with this. It’s against Massachusetts’ law:

Furthermore, the law has specific restrictions once people leave state employment. There is a “forever ban” on working for anyone other than the state on a matter that an individual worked on as a state employee….

“It would appear that former State Representative Walz is covered by the definition of this statue. State Representative Walz was the leading sponsor of the Buffer Zone Law, and then was hired to a position directly related to the Buffer Zone Law that has paid $250,000 per year,” Lyons says in his joint letter with Lombardo to the attorney general.

New book reveals foundational flaws of Roe v. Wade

clarke-forsytheSuch promises as reduced maternal mortality, divorce and spousal abuse, and the disappearance of “back-alley” abortionists have not materialized.

… [P]rior to the court’s ruling, leading medical associations had been warned about abortion’s many and serious risks. But the Supreme Court, in its 7-2 decisions, simply ignored them. Instead the justices relied, for example, on a flawed 1961 report supposedly attesting to the safety of abortion that was repeated so often it became a mantra. The court swallowed it wholesale….

  • In First Things, Clarke Forsythe discusses how the Supreme Court helped create abortionists like Kermit Gosnell:

Because the Justices foolishly believed that abortion had few risks, and that abortion providers should have complete discretion to decide how to perform abortions in the first trimester, the Justices said that state and local officials could not regulate them in the first trimester. The Justices prohibited state health and safety regulations for abortion clinics in the first trimester of pregnancy when 90 percent of abortions are performed.

Stanek wkend question: Should aborting mothers be charged with murder?

dreamstime_xs_23673405A bill was introduced in the Iowa House this week that would define abortion as murder. According to the Ames Tribune, February 7:

Those charged with murder, under the bill, would include a mother who takes abortion-inducing drugs or a doctor who performs an abortion. It also grants no exceptions for rape, incest or to protect the life of the mother.

When the day comes that abortion is again illegal in the United States, should mothers who seek clandestine abortions be charged with murder along with their abortionists?

It should be noted that before abortion was legalized throughout the U.S. in 1973, aborting mothers were not prosecuted. According to Clarke Forsythe at Americans United for Life:

  • At National Review, Michael New remarks on President Obama’s frequent mentions of Planned Parenthood during the second Presidential debate, stating, “The fact that federal funding for Planned Parenthood is now a salient issue during Presidential debates is good evidence of pro-life progress.”

  • Our newest addition to Top Blogs, Voice of Hope, notes the unfortunate editing of the televised premiere of October Baby, in which a pivotal scene was omitted (spoiler alert at link).

GMC has since apologizedand plans to run the movie in its entirety in the future.
