  • Wesley J. Smith discusses the latest culture of death idea. We’ve heard of “abortion doulas,” but what about death doulas? These individuals, according to two authors, would become “suicide facilitators” by “fill[ing] a gap between treatment doctors and hospice workers.”

Pro-choicers to “pretty up” clinic that looks like it’s in trash bag

by Kelli The Jackson Women’s Health Organization is already a dazzling pink, and clinic owner Diane Derzis and clinic director Shannon Brewer-Anderson have invested a lot of time, resources and thought into making the clinic feel safe and welcoming to the women they serve. But the clinic is surrounded by a wide fence to keep […]

BREAKING: 93 abortion clinics closed in 2013

breakingOperation Rescue has posted a year-end report on the number of abortion clinics that closed in 2013, and the news is good.

OR, which hosts AbortionDocs.org and tracks abortion clinic comings and goings, reports a whopping 87 surgical abortion clinics and six medical abortion clinics closed in 2013, for a total of 93.

Mississippi abortion clinic owner: “God wants me to do this job”

by Kelli “I feel like God wants me to do this job,” said [Mississippi abortion clinic owner Diane] Derzis, who has a raspy smoker’s voice and a penchant for brightly painted fingernails and chunky jewelry. She started working as an abortion clinic counselor shortly after the first clinic opened in Alabama in the 1970s. Derzis […]

  • Secular Pro-Life has two excellent posts. In the first, their press release rejects the stereotype of pro-lifers advanced by Comedy Central’s The Daily Show guest host, John Oliver, [who] “implied that abortion restrictions are motivated solely by religion and not by secular concern for the human right to life.” The second post, discusses the censoring of three pro-life female physicians who “were scheduled to give presentations at a Medical Women’s International Association (MWIA) meeting in Seoul” but were told after they arrived that their presentations had been cancelled because they “had prepared presentations on risks of abortion.”

  • Salon has a piece by Katie McDonough in which fetal pain is called “a lie.” McDonough’s cited source for this conclusion is one review of studies by abortion advocates and late-term abortionist Anne Davis, who is also the consulting medical director at Physicians for Reproductive Health. Davis claims children (born or unborn) can’t feel pain until 26 weeks. The following might be one reason Davis is so opposed to fetal pain legislation:

“Patients are now asking me about fetal pain. This was not happening 15 years ago,” Davis says. “When you’re sitting in your office with a woman who is 22 weeks into a pregnancy with a severe fetal anomaly — she’s depressed, she’s stressed and now she’s worried, ‘Is my baby going to feel pain?’ It’s just another thing these women have to struggle with. And why? These are created concerns. They are not based in science, they are based in politics.”

by JivinJ, host of the blog, JivinJehoshaphat Mollie Hemingway has a great point on the national media turning a blind eye towards Planned Parenthood’s Medicaid fraud: It’s so confusing how a private breast cancer charity choosing not to give Planned Parenthood a couple hundred thousand dollars generated thousands of stories but that same abortion group […]

State of Alabama catches unlicensed abortion provider red-handed

dianederzisAL.com reported today:

The state of Alabama has uncovered a business relationship between the doctor of a clinic accused of being an unlicensed abortion provider and the woman who surrendered an abortion provider license for the Southside facility a year ago.

In a court filing last week, the state says that Dr. Bruce Norman is contracted with a Georgia company headed by Diane Derzis [pictured above right] to provide staffing, supplies, medication, medical malpractice insurance and workman’s compensation — “in short to manage Norman’s practice conducted at 1001 17th St. South.”

In previous court filings, Derzis stated there was no relationship between herself and Norman.
