• At National Review, Michael J. New addresses Politico’s recent poll, the results of which were used to try and make Democrats’ views on abortion appear mainstream, when they aren’t. The Democratic Party supports abortion on demand, not abortion with restrictions.
• At Priests for Life, Fr. Frank Pavone also responds to the results of both the Politico and Gallup polls:
  

  “When 80 percent of voters in highly contested states and Congressional districts say they want babies protected from late-term abortions, if not most or all abortions, it’s pretty clear who the extremists are – those who support abortion on demand.”…

Gallup has just released it annual survey on the abortion question. This year 47% of Americans said they considered themselves pro-choice, and 46% pro-life:

In 1995, 56% of the public considered themselves pro-choice and only 33% pro-life. But the lines slowly drew closer until 2009, when for the first time a majority of Americans (51%) said they were pro-life. Since then, six of 10 Gallup polls have come down on the pro-life side. One poll showed a tie.

How various demographics shook out:

You may (or may not!) have noticed I’ve been out-of-pocket a few days. I was in Dublin, Ireland, where I was asked to speak at the National Convention for Life 2014 on April 12.

The daylong event was more than sold out. Many came who hadn’t registered, and although there were dozens of chairs added, some of the 600 attendees still had to stand.

The life issue is huge in Ireland, which was abortion free until the tragic death in 2012 of Savita Halappanavar and her 17-wk-old baby, which abortion zealots exploited and lied about to push through a law legalizing abortion for medical emergencies and suicidal ideation last year.

In that light, NCFL organizers asked me to encourage our Irish counterparts by describing how we are winning the war against abortion in America. You can view my speech here, but I thought I’d post the statistics I showed – many compiled by abortion proponents – demonstrating that we are indeed prevailing in just about every measurable way. • Michael J. New believes other reasons may be behind the U.S.’s declining abortion rate:
  

  Interestingly, none of these analysts [who claim increased contraception is the reason behind the decline] is willing to consider that shifts in public opinion on abortion may be playing a role. May of 2009 was the first time that a majority of Americans identified themselves as “pro-life” in a Gallup survey. “Pro-life” has outpolled “pro-choice” six out of nine times since the spring of 2009….

  Since the abortion rate is falling while the unintended-pregnancy rate is stable, a higher percentage of women facing unintended pregnancies are choosing to carry their children to term. Data from the Department of Health and Human Services support this, pro-lifers should take heart in it.

On January 22 the Republican National Committee issued a strongly worded resolution telling pro-life candidates it would support those “who fight back against Democratic deceptive ‘war on women’ rhetoric by pointing out the extreme positions on abortion held by Democratic opponents” and back away from those “who stay silent in the face of such deceptive rhetoric.”

So game on. The RNC has learned, quoting the resolution again, that “[c]andidates who stay silent on pro-life issues do not identify with key voters, fail to alert voters to the Democrats’ extreme pro-abortion stances, and have lost their elections.”

Like we said.

This past Wednesday the March for Life in Washington, D.C., saw RNC Chairman Reince Priebus speak from the rally podium as well as House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (pictured above right) – physically backing up the resolution.

Of course, we can never really wake up to blue skies as long as the dark cloud of abortion hangs over us.

Nevertheless, yesterday brought lots of good news for the pro-life movement from many sides.

Don’t mess with Texas pro-lifers

First, last night the Texas House provisionally passed (formal ceremonial vote today) pro-life bills a pro-abortion mob previously blocked on June 25. The tally, 98-49, was four votes higher for our side than the vote taken after pro-abortion Rep. Wendy Davis’s filibuster. Sweet.

At the time of the vote, Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards was inexplicably rallying in Houston, as if she forgot the state capital is Austin. Cecile turned from festive to angry after the vote, tweeting, “Tonight the TX House passed a bill that will take women back decades–and we’re not going,” adding this photo to scare us. She apparently missed the memo instructing late-term abortion supporters to wear orange. Click to enlarge…

One can assume I am also not the only woman in America who is really tiring of the Wendys of the world claiming to represent “women’s rights” in their quest to mainstream a medical procedure — elective late-term abortion — that most of the civilized world finds barbaric and abhorrent.
