Landmark: House to vote on DC fetal pain ban

I wrote July 19 that the District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (HR 3803) was in danger of not getting a vote in the House in the final days of session.

But now word comes from National Right to Life that a vote will indeed be held July 31:

Rep calls for House hearing on Planned Parenthood following death

The chairman of the U.S. House committee conducting an investigation of Planned Parenthood is now calling for a public hearing in light of the death of Tonya Reaves last week after a second-trimester abortion at a Chicago Planned Parenthood.

Congressman Cliff Stearns, Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, told Fox News Planned Parenthood has been stonewalling his investigation, and he now wants to “put them under oath”:

Planned Parenthood and Barack Obama both responsible for death of Tonya Reaves

Over the weekend the mainstream media was surprisingly forthcoming in reporting the tragic death of a mother following her second trimester abortion at a Chicago Planned Parenthood, revealing her name, age, and the name of her surviving son. Also sad was news that she had an identical twin. From CBS Chicago:

Tonya Reaves, 24, died late Friday night from a hemorrhage, with a cervical dilation and evacuation, as well as an intrauterine pregnancy as contributing causes, according to the medical examiner’s office.

She died after she’d had an abortion at Planned Parenthood at 18 S. Michigan Av, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Her death was ruled an accident, but the Reaves family wants to know more, especially Tonya’s twin sister Toni.

“We were born the same day. She was my other half,” Toni said….

Toni Reaves said her sister was engaged to be married and had one son – Alvin – who just had his first birthday.

The Daily Mail went so far as to (sort of) describe the type of abortion procedure Reaves underwent:

  • Jonathan Kay on forced abortions in China:

Canadians in particular might want to pay close attention. Here at home, liberals are hyper-sensitive to the passage of any abortion law, on the exaggerated fear that the prohibition of, say, third- or second-trimester abortions might set us down a slippery slope to a world in which abortion is outlawed completely, at any point in gestation. On such slippery-slope logic do we remain the only developed nation in the world where it is entirely legal to abort a fetus at any stage of development and viability, for any reason whatsoever — or no reason at all.

The Linyi example shows us that the slippery-slope argument works the other way, too: Once abortion becomes widely available, commonly practiced, and state-sanctioned, citizens and government officials become jaded to the human reality of birth and procreation. Instead, the fetus is seen as an inanimate prop of social policy, to be terminated according to whim and expedience.

Even a blind man could see that this is an evil path.

by JivinJ, host of the blog, JivinJehoshaphat The Shelby County Commission in Tennessee has voted 6-4 to defer the decision to defund Planned Parenthood. Basically, the Democrats on the commission want to give Planned Parenthood funding despite Christ Community Health Center scoring higher on a checklist of service-related criteria.
