Stanek weekend question: Do Americans still value born life?

Our weekend question today comes from moderator Tyler, who writes:

I am astonished why so many people fail to appreciate that four Americans were killed in Libya. I believe this is a pro-life issue.  The respect for the lives of these Americans seems to be lost on the MSM, and even the general/world wide public.

The question is: Do Americans still value born life?

Check out this video of John McCain.  Why does he have answer such questions and emphasize the loss of life that has taken place in Benghazi?  Why doesn’t the MSM appreciate the seriousness of what happened?

Video intro, from YouTube: “After being asked whether the Petraeus scandal was a bigger national security threat than the Benghazi consulate attack, John McCain coldly tells a reporter, ‘That’s one of the dumbest questions I’ve ever heard.'”…

Stanek wkend question: Thoughts on Coulter’s charge that having no rape/incest exception is “insane”?

I like Ann Coulter.

I can’t think of a time when I haven’t agreed with Ann Coulter, even if her rhetoric is sometimes considered over-the-top. I usually enjoy her rhetoric, except her insistence on using the word “retard.”

Rhetoric aside, Coulter is a smart and savvy conservative.

So I was disappointed and stymied by this portion of Coulter’s analysis of the shellacking many Republicans took in Tuesday’s election:

Stanek weekend question II: Why do abortion proponents get so angry?

The mind of the abortion supporter is complex. As I wrote in my previous post, on the one hand they want to make light of abortion, as if it is no more grave than an ingrown toenail.

And on the other hand abortion proponents cannot stand viewing pro-life messaging or the reality of abortion.

This week I was forwarded photos of pro-abortion vandalism in two different states.

The photo on the right was taken in front of the office of Nebraskans United for Life, in Omaha. NUFL’s signs were defaced on two separate occasions. They’re now hard to read, but certainly not “HATE”ful: “Protect the Unborn, Defend Marriage, Safeguard Religious Liberty,” and “Religious Liberty, The Soul of Democracy.”

Yet this is the world in which we now live, when some people think “Xtians [should] get out.”

Meanwhile, at an event featuring VP Joe Biden, a supporter stuck out in the cold waiting for two hours for him to show up apparently decided to vent her frustration on pro-life activists who were also on hand to remind the crowd what exactly the support in  the Obama/Biden ticket.

Oddly having a ready can of spray paint, the woman walked over and blacked over the pro-life messaging on two signs leaning against cars.

Stanek weekend question I: Why should abortion be funny?

We’ve discussed before that the liberal culture is attempting to destigmatize abortion by making jokes about it.

Already, apparently, we are to the point where if we “anti-choice nutjobs” don’t laugh along with the joke we have “terrible senses of humor.”

Earlier this year comedienne Chelsea Handler told Rose O’Donnell about her coerced abortion at age 16 by parents with the same attitude as Barack Obama, not wanting their daughter to be punished with their grandchild:

(“And, of course, I have no regret at all.” Why “of course”?)

Flash forward and Handler, now age 37, has never married and has no children.

When Handler appeared on Conan O’Brien’s show on October 31, she gave more detail. Her baby would have been 20 years old now and was half black. She reiterated, as she did on the Rosie show, that the abortion was best for her, but she suddenly began laughing, inexplicable even to her. WARNING: crude…

Stanek weekend question: How would Romney presidency change abortion landscape?

There are a few pro-lifers who think that because Mitt Romney is an untested convert to our side – making what I think are erroneous charges he is a wolf in sheep’s clothing – and because he holds a rape/incest exception, there’s no sense in voting for him. They say they will sit on their vote when it comes to the president.

Stanek weekend question II: What do you think of this fetal horror Halloween costume?

[HT: reader Jeanne]

Stanek weekend question I: If a fetus has no right to life, how can a dad be charged with murder for attempted abortion?

A tragic story about a terrible man from thebraiser.com, October 18:

Yesterday, Joshua Woodward (pictured right), a former New York City restaurateur and partner of chef Govind Armstrong, was arraigned on charges of attempted murder after he secretly administered an abortion drug to his pregnant girlfriend, who soon miscarried their 13-week-old fetus.

Woodward, who opened Table 8 in the East Village with Armstrong back in 2008, pled not guilty, though he has a really bad case against him. As the NYDN recaps the 2009 case:

Stanek weekend question: What would your e-card about Obama say?

9/30, 8a: Here’s a good submission by reader David N.:

9/29, 7:13a: Per The Weekly Standard, September 28:

The Obama campaign has created a series of electronic greeting card aimed at women voters. “President Obama summed up the Republican Party’s approach to women’s health when he said ‘they want to take us back to the policies more suited to the 1950s than the 21st century,'” the Obama campaign website reads. “Send an eCard to say you won’t go back.”

Perhaps the oddest card in the series, though, is this one:

which my daughter was good enough to send to me…
