Notre Dame update 5/16, 4:30p EST
Got into town a couple hours ago and went straight to Best Buy to purchase a little pocket video camera I read about on the plane that lets one post directly to YouTube. Also got a much needed phone upgrade so I can now post from anywhere on my computer through my Blackberry’s Internet access.
On my drive here I spotted and took photos of one of the billboards purchased by Pro-Life Action League and Citizens for a Pro-Life Society. It’s at mile marker 57 on I80 for those coming to Notre Dame from the west.
Monica Miller of CPS is already here and scoping out the ND campus. We’re bunking together at the same hotel tonight. Leslie Hanks from CO Right to Life flew in today as well, and she’s also at the campus. That’s my next stop….
News reports say Alan Keyes will remain locked up until Monday, since yesterday’s arrest was his 2nd. That’s unfortunate. Gordon K. emailed that Fr. Weslin was just arrested for the 2nd time as well. Norma McCorvey – the Roe in Roe v. Wade, who is now pro-life – was with him but did not get arrested, reported Gordon. Here’s video. You can see Norma with arm linked to Fr. Weslin on his right…

The bishop should revoke ND’s “catholic” title.
bystander, I respect that Ms Bollman is entitled to her opinion. And that she’s earned the honor of speaking as valedictorian. But that doesn’t mean she is an accurate or authoritative voice of true (orthodox, adhering to Church teaching) Catholicism.
She calls the president of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops out of tune with Catholicism. She states, “We know exactly what it is to be Catholic…” I understand that to mean that Ms Bollman considers herself more capable of defining Catholicism than the bishops. She seems to me to have emancipated herself from Church authority. She can refer to herself as Catholic, but if she is not willing to submit to the heirarchy of the Church, she has chosen to separate herself from the Church regardless of any label such as “catholic” that she chooses to apply to herself.

One thing pro life people can do is encourage government funding for pregnancy crisis centers. I find it appalling that govt pays for abortions which kill babies…. but don’t provide a dime to pregnancy centers which save them. I’m getting actively involved in my church and to encourage our church members to support our local centers which are in desperate need of help.
These are constructive things we can and should be doing. We don’t want women to abort and helping them financially and emotionally with pregnancies is one way to help.

You are never going to change the minds of rabid pro aborts. However, I think there is a sizable percentage of people who can be persuaded. There are many people who think abortion should be legal in the first trimester but agree its murder after that. Pro life believe its murder from conception. People like that who are “soft” on the issue are ones we can bring over to the pro life side.
The fact that Jill posted yesterday here (and it even was reported on MSNBC!) that more people are pro life than pro abortion shows something must be working. I think Sarah Palin may have something to do with it. Her son Trig is a testimony to the fact we have no business aborting any child. They are all a gift from God whether they are “perfect” or not by our standards. They are all perfect to God as he created them.
But I would say there is maybe 20% of the population who believe abortion should be allowed no matter what. They are the ones who would support FOCA wholeheartedly.
And speaking of FOCA, remember when Barry told Planned Barrenhood “one of the first things I would do is pass FOCA”? Well now he says its “not a priority.” Why is that? Only reason I can think of is he knows there would be a big backlash. And not a peep from the far left demanding he do it. Even the most radical know most people would not support it.

You must give me the benefit of always expressing this caveat when mentioning someone’s eternal destiny:
I always say, “apart from repentance”, “if you don’t repent”, “if you continue in your rejection of Christ”.
This means that I don’t know what someone’s eternal destiny is because I don’t know if they will change or repent, etc. This includes you. So no, I don’t know where you specifically will end up. I only know these things generically.
So, if there is breath, there is always a chance for salvation.
Finally, the Bible and Jesus says these very things in the same way, always conditioning a conclusion based on “if”….the biggest two letter word in the dictionary.
So, I pray that all repent and turn to Jesus Christ. He’s actually pretty cool to get to know. Your honesty and courage is very, very refreshing though.

You very well could be right. And babies are being killed daily not only in America but most countries have legal abortion. Something has GOT to change.
How ironic that countries like Dominican Republic and Nicaragua have banned all abortions yet “enlightened” countries like USA, Canada, all of Europe, protect abortionists who kill babies. Also ironic that many countries force taxpayers to pay for the killing of innocent babies, but have no money for pregnancy centers whose goal it is to help pregnant moms and their children.
Imagine if this blog were about killing a litter of puppies by stabbing them in their skulls and sucking their brains out. I believe PLfers and PCers alike would be outraged!….So, I can only conclude that is is a mental disorder, because God’s greatest gift, babies, are none of the PCers concern.

I think the distinction is important. The truth is still outrageous.

As the daughter of two police officers I can tell you that it was ridiculous that they zip-tied his hands. That threw him off balance enough that he had to be carried off on a stretcher. There was no reason to do that.
Other than that complaint, I do feel that the police were unfortunately, doing their job… I am far more upset at the power behind the “they”… the ones who ordered it.
And yes, “they”… the powers at ND, arrested a Catholic priest for saying the rosary on a Catholic university. I fail to see how a Catholic priest at a Catholic university can be charged with trespassing. It’s unconscionable.

My brother was also a police officer in a large city. Handcuffing was done under all circumstances, especially after police officers were killed by uncuffed suspects they thought were harmless.
On routine traffic stops I’ve had officers approach my car with extreme caution. Sure, my license plate may indicate there are no “wants or warrants”, my car isn’t stolen, and I am by all appearances a respectable citizen. Still the officer can’t assume I’m the legitimate owner of the car or that I’m not sitting there with a loaded shotgun.
I agree it seems absurd to tie this elderly priest, but police officers cannot make assumptions about anyone. The people I hold responsible are the president and board of trustees of ND who would not allow an elderly priest to pray on their campus. That’s the true absurdity.

I am very disappointed with president Obama … I will continue to pray, as the Bible instructs us to do, but will also continue to voice my beliefs, which are supported by the Bible.
We must speak out against abortion, which is serious evil in the land. I will also proclaim that Obama should decline his honorary degree, which he does not deserve!
President Obama, you need to repent of your wicked heart, and join with God, in the defense of the unborn children.
