I never voted for him even when he was a Republican. In fact, I have voted for a democrat a couple of times because the Democrat was pro-life and the Republican was pro-choice! Parties are meaningless. Its the VIEWS of the candidate that mean something…the morals, the thoughts that shape the candidate. Thats why we’re in the mess we’re in right now because Americans aren’t focusing on ISSUES. We are too busy wrapped up in parties, and gender, and skin color, and tie color and speeches…and now we got Comrade Obama!
Specter is from my neck of the woods and I hope he gets a swift kick in the pants out of D.C.
Sadly, it is a fact that if he never left the Republican Party would be supporting him today.
Sydney, you’re absolutely right. In his book Render Unto Caesar, Abp. Chaput said: “Party loyalty is a dead end. It’s a lethal form of laziness. Issues matter. Character matters. Acting on principle matters.” (p.4)
The Democratic party is welcome to Specter. I am confident Pat Toomey will be the new Senator in 2010.
Rocco Landesman is President Obama’s handpicked chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. Last week he gave the keynote address to the 2009 Grantmakers in the Arts Conference.
The speech bears examination in its entirety, but Landesman’s tribute to Obama is especially worth a look:
“This is the first president that actually writes his own books since Teddy Roosevelt and arguably the first to write them really well since Lincoln. If you accept the premise, and I do, that the United States is the most powerful country in the world, then Barack Obama is the most powerful writer since Julius Caesar. That has to be good for American artists.”
Yet Landesman knows Obama is like Caesar, somehow — a friend asks, is it in the transformation of a republic into an empire with a divine ruler? Perhaps if Landesman had his wits about him, he would note instead that Obama is the most powerful speaker since the other JC.

JFK wrote ‘Profiles in Courage’, for which he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize.
Note the sequence of events: JFK wrote the book and then was awarded the Pulizter Prize, not the other way around.

Specter’s chances are bleak in any election. 23 year low now in the polls !!!
Hi Ken,
I can’t find where Abraham Lincoln wrote any books, only poems and letters. As head of the NEA Landesman should be somewhat better informed, don’t you think??
The most powerful writer since Julius Caesar? So John Steinbeck and Harriet Beecher Stowe don’t quite hold a candle to Obama?
I also understand JFK didn’t write “Profiles in Courage” but that it was ghostwritten.
Whatever, in those days anyway, one got a prize if a book was actually written, not for one’s good intention or vision of writing a book.
Also, I don’t believe “the other JC” ever used a teleprompter.
