Jivin J’s Life Links 12-4-09

Again, I can see why the pro-choice side dislikes crisis pregnancy centers, and especially dislikes the idea of public dollars being funneled their way. But if we don’t want to fund ideologically charged organizations that cut ethical corners in the counseling they provide to pregnant women, there’s a case to be made for taking a look at Planned Parenthood’s millions as well….
Today the Senate accepted the Mikulski (D-Md) amendment to the Senate health care bill by a vote of 61-39. The amendment does not explicitly require abortion coverage, but it also fails to explicitly exclude it. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) could categorize abortion as “preventive care,” and would therefore recommend coverage for abortion by all private plans. The recommendation would force private plans to offer abortion coverage, furthering the abortion lobby’s agenda of mainstreaming abortion as health care.
The Murkowski amendment, which would have explicitly excluded abortion from being included as preventative care, was defeated 41 to 59.

Dr. Carhart declined to provide specifics on how late in a pregnancy he would be willing to perform an abortion. Dr. Tiller performed them, in some cases, as late as in the third trimester of pregnancy. Dr. Carhart’s fee schedule lists prices for abortions up to 22 weeks and 6 days (at that point, $2,100 in cash or $2,163 on a credit card), but notes that abortions after 23 weeks are available “after consultation with our doctor,” and that abortions after the 27th week may take four days.

What is the price for taking a human life? $2100.00 cold cash.
I can’t even finish the article on Carhart – I’m so frustrated.
When are OB/GYNS going to stop telling women that a difficult pregnancy is a “problem” that can magically disappear with a quick trip to Dr. Carhart? Either doctors are not being trained to treat these women properly, or they just don’t care. Are they lazy, ignorant? I fault the medical schools for promoting this mentality that if a pregnancy isn’t perfect, dispose of it and try again. Mental health officials who won’t admit that abortion hurts everyone it touches. I fault our elected officials who think abortion is a necessary evil. I fault the 1970’s feminists and the abortion industry for 40 years of self-serving lies. I fault the clergy for their apathy. I could go on….
Thank you to the New York Times for this article.
I thought he supposedly only did late term abortions for “medical reasons”. What sort of medical reason needs to result in the death of a baby when a c-section COULD BE PERMISSABLE if the woman’s life is TRULY in danger and she’s at least 24 weeks?
I hope he gets his medical “license” revoked.
Carhart: post 27 weeks. Back to the Nebraska AG to see if anything can be done re: our post-viability statute in NE. Liz: not to mention the outward appearance of the dive he runs. Who would take their dog in there, much less someone whose life is supposedly in danger.
4 days?! It takes 4 days for a late term abortion? Some emergency.
Kudos to the sixth graders who helped save the newborn’s life. This is something they will always remember. Oh, BTW, I thought incidents like these weren’t supposed to happen after Roe?
Thank God those kids were there and heard the baby in time! I hope that the little girl is adopted by a loving family and has a wonderful life, despite the difficult start.
Liz, Janet, and Phillymiss, you guys really hit it on the head.
$2,100 sure could go a long way towards living expenses, baby things, clothing, etc. Or you could save the $2,100 and choose adoption… your expenses would be paid for in that event.
army_wife,
Thank you. Pregnant girls must not know that expenses will be paid for if the choose adoption. It’s no wonder when the pro-aborts demonize the CPC’s scaring girls from going in. Maybe some of these girls are worried about “losing their figures” so abortion seems the answer. I’m sure this reason is very common in the fashion industry and in Hollywood even though the skinny shape promoted there is unattainable for 99 percent of the female population.
Why didn’t this woman who put the baby in a trash can take the baby to a hospital or police station for drop off? Cities have different age requirements – if the baby is too old – sorry. Maybe this was the case. I don’t know.
47 states have Safe Haven legislation where you can drop off an infant. 47!
This is exactly what abortion has done to society..the mindset that a human life is just an object to be disposed of if it’s an ‘inconvenience’.It’s one reason why there are more and more children being abused, and why some elderly are ‘dumped’ in nursing homes and never visited by anyone.

I majored in math in college and (past 24 weeks) > (22 weeks and 6 days)
of interest re: the last story about dumpster babies
Amy Efaw has written a book for teens on this topic:
After is about a young woman who is in denial over her pregnancy and who has her baby and leaves her in a dumpster. It’s quite good.

And Carhart’s prices go way up too. What a lucrative business.

angel, Thanks for the tip.
Re: safe haven laws. I received from the OB clinic on post the usual packet of handouts for OB patients… you know, the usual stuff about kick counts, other misc. pregnancy-related information.
One of the handout sheets I was given wasn’t so “usual”, however. It was about this state’s safe haven laws. Although I’m glad they are making this information available, I think it is a sad commentary on our society that this is even necessary. Do they really think that pregnant women are thinking of abandoning their baby already? If one is considering such a thing beforehand then what about adoption? Perhaps they should give a handout about adoption, too. It’s all so sad, but I’m glad that many states do give an “easy out” for women who for whatever reason are so desparate as to want to abandon their baby. I hope it saves the lives of those babies who would otherwise be left in the middle of nowhere or in a dumpster, or simply murdered outright.
Angel, I might have to check out that book. I certainly hope the baby makes it out of that situation alive.
