Interesting how they avoid the word “abortion” like the plague.
Note to PP: Just how desperate are you? We more seasoned citizens look ridiculous in these situations. You might want to find younger women, college age preferably. Is this a problem for your folks? One wouldn’t think so.
The elderly lady with the birth control sign is laughable, just as Gloria Steinem wearing an “I Has An Abortion” teeshirt looks ridiculous. I am not an ageist but it is what it is, sagging boobs and flabby arms don’t cut it when modelling teeshirts, and elderly ladies expressing concern over their birth control is nostalgia and wishful thinking at best.
Um wait a minute here…The government wouldn’t be taking it away. They would actually put the money into other more legitimate health care facilities. This would disallow any money going to PP…besides that they could live off their real “biz” if its that much of an issue.
Yes, but my favorite is still this one of the guy holding a “Don’t take away my breast exams” sign at PP’s rally in downtown Chicago a few weeks back.
And I don’t get it…if no tax-payer money is going to abortions, then how would taking away tax-payer money reduce abortion access?
Ha, John, but is that real? It looks photo-shopped.
I think it might be real. If you look at the original image, there’s no apparent irregularities or anything with the pixels.
On a side note, men *do* get breast cancer. But I still think this pic is hilarious.
Men have no say!! Why are there men standing with PP? They don’t have ovaries!! Or breasts! How dare they??
Oh, silly Carla! They’re only ALLOWED to have a say when the women TELL them they can have a say! You just don’t “get” liberal feminism… Sheesh.
And they’re allowed to have a say as long as they agree with the liberal feminists. And beyond that, they just have to drive the women to the clinic if needed and cough up the bucks to abort their kids.
Kel,
Right. Right. Of course. Of course.
Jill,
It’s real — I saw it with my own eyes.
There were plenty of signs with the word “abortion” at the Planned Parenthood rally I attended.
Also, men can get testicular cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood, so it’s not like a sign that says “Dont Take Away My Cancer Screenings” is a ridiculous thing for him to be holding.
Caitlin,
Right. Right. Of course. Of course.
Carla,
Your stutter is really getting out of control.
Thank you, Caitlin.
I’ll get that checked out. In the meantime, kick your feet up, pop some popcorn and type away about how aborting our children is the “best” thing we can do for them and ourselves.
I will! Thank you for having me!
Caitlin you went to a rally? But I thought they were outdated and only served to bolster you.
They are, and they do! They are a totally outdated form of demonstration. There’s nothing wrong with me showing my support for an organization, but by and large, rally attendance is not indicative of how many people support any given cause.
Hey Caitlin,
Can you answer my question?
If taxpayer dollars “don’t pay for abortions”, then why would de-funding PP reduce a woman’s right to abortion?
It would reduce a woman’s access to abortion. In many states, Planned Parenthood is the only abortion clinic available. Without funding assistance, many Planned Parenthood clinics would close.
Abortion is a necessary part of comprehensive reproductive health care, and it’s important to keep Planned Parenthood clinics funded, open, and available to women who need their services.
the t op lady looks like she is too old for bc.
So, Caitlin admits that taxpayers ARE in fact funding abortions. Got it. Just wanted to make sure.
PP runs their operation just like any retail merchant; advertise a loss-leader (ex. cheap candy/junk food/cigarettes at drugstores vs. cheap low-dose minimally effective birth control pills at PP) to get the public in the door, then sell them the antidote “real” moneymaker (weight loss pills/Nicorette gum/patches at CVS vs. abortions-on-demand at PP). Great business model…I guess until the public wakes up to the bait-and-switch…
On the surface, the woman holding the birth conrol sign is laughable. She is ridiculous.
But, on a deeper level, we should be very alarmed. This woman explains a lot because the older generation subscribe to a bill of goods known as modern family planning.
They influence their children and they continue to influence lawmakers, making it that much harder for us to promote the culture of life.
We must get our mothers and grandmothers involved in this struggle.
We should view this woman as a call to action. The longer we laugh at her, the more time we waste.
So Caitlin, taxpayers are funding abortion.
I guess that makes “pro-life Democrat” Harry Reid a liar.
And if we don’t hold all humans worth saving – who does this woman think will champion her when she is more aged and frail? Pro-life work is helping humans in all stages of life – including the ones that are hard…
If we don’t defend life at its delicate beginnings, how can we see value in defending it at its end?
LOVE BIG. Welcome everyone in the human family, no matter the situation.
Or, I guess you could be charitable and call Harry Reid “terribly naive”. Personally, I think he’s politically compromised and has no principles whatsoever…part of the “personally I’m pro-life, but…” crowd.
The worst of all, in my opinion.
I think we have 2 “Marys” on this thread. :)
Caitlin 3:28PM
Why don’t you millions of abortion supporters get together and cough up the money needed to keep PP running? Certainly there are plenty of wealthy celebrities, we sure see and hear from them enough at PA rallies, who should only be to happy to put their money where their mouths are. A million here or there to them is pocket change. PA folks like Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer aren’t exactly paupers.
Look at all the charities that run very efficiently without a dime of taxpayer funding.
BTW, is the gov’t obligated to subsidize charities that provide meals and services to people in need? In some communities, food pantries and other charities provide help to large segments of the community. What happens if these charities close?
Certainly you would support taxpayer subsidies to church pantries and religious charitiable institutions as well as non sectarian?
Mary 3:44PM,
I don’t agree, I think this is what our opponents have been reduced to. Where are all the young women? Where are this woman’s daughters and granddaughters, assuming she has any?
Oh, silly Carla! They’re only ALLOWED to have a say when the women TELL them they can have a say! You just don’t “get” liberal feminism… Sheesh.
Or in this sort of circumstance, more like when they’re paid by ‘pro-choice feminists’ to have an opinion. :-/

Now, Mary, you’re being so silly. If only the government would fund PP completely while allowing them to increase their profit margin to unreasonable numbers, we would have NO poor or hungry people because EVERYONE would choose the BEST thing for them which of course is birth control and abortion unless they have the money in the bank to pay for their children from birth to death, including but not limited to food, clothing, insurance and entertainment. Then over time only the people who prepare would even consider getting pregnant because the information about birth control options would be so accurate and widespread. And this would, of course, lead to a complete eradication of poverty.
Planned Parenthood is so great that way!
/sarcasm ;)
Sydney and pjmama,
I did not say that taxpayer money goes directly toward abortion. If the taxpayer funds clear up private donor funds for abortion, then taxpayer money is STILL not directly paying for abortion. It’s poor logic to believe that this means that taxpayers fund abortion.
Pro-choice people pay taxes too, by the way.
The, um, older woman there is herself a victim of PP. They haven’t told her that she no longer needs those pills. I mean, hey, a customer is a customer.
Caitlin,
Women deserve better than abortion. Look beyond abortion rights at the underlying causes of abortion. Abortion is a sign that we’ve failed to meet the needs of women & families.
Women and families deserve
Safe housing
Safe and decent shelter
Low cost maternity and infant care
Equal rights in the work place
Low-cost and decent day care
Freedom from domestic violence and coercion (into abortion)
Housing/Parenting support services in high schools and colleges so they may be able to continue their education.
Pregnancy and Parenting support groups in their communities.
And the list goes on.
Abortion is not a sign of freedom, it is a sign that we as a society have failed to provide women and families these basic needs and rights.
I’m the second “Mary” to chime in above- re: laughable picture, but troubling message.
The original Mary @ 4:18PM responded to me “I don’t agree, I think this is what our opponents have been reduced to. Where are all the young women? Where are this woman’s daughters and granddaughters, assuming she has any?”
True, our opponents might be reduced to enlisting elderly women- who have no need for birth control or PP’s services. But she’s clearly got the gumption to get out there and hold her sign.
There need to be more prolife people- of all ages, willing to get out there and witness life in all stages!
It’s just a difficult battle– because the generally speaking the culture is divided between pro “choice”/life camps. MOST pro-lifers are prayerful, quiet, witness in front of the mills and actively engage in spiritual warfare. There are some extroverts. (Hi Jill, Chris Slattery!) Pro Choicers tend take the opposite approach.
@Caitlin, Super like your response!
“Abortion is not a sign of freedom, it is a sign that we as a society have failed to provide women and families these basic needs and rights.”
Yeah, I agree. However, it is primarily a sign that the fathers of these children have failed to provide these basic needs and rights. A man doesn’t really have a right to a relationship if he isn’t willing and able to do what is right.
Your body, your choice, your responsibility, you pay [with your own money].
Please keep your uterus out of my wallet.
PP is just one giant money laundering operation for the left.
Pap smears and mamograms can be obtained at many other places than PP and the taxpayer does not get stuck with the tab.
Ever hear of ‘dutch treat’.
Just want to see one of the feministas on the street corner with a crude hand written sign that says, ‘Will work for abortion’.
Pregnancy is not a sexually transmitted disease and elective [as in ‘choice’] abortions are not health care. They are akin to cosmetic surgery…., except for the part where the pre-natal child is killed.
I am on Planned Barrenhood’s listserv and they claimed thousands filled the halls of Congress to promote their cause. Looking at the pictures I’ve seen, the number is closer to a few hundred. I went to the March for Life, I saw people of both genders and all ages as far as I can see. That is what thousands of supporters look like.
Those hot-pink signs – courtesy of US Government taxpayer $$$.
Regarding the guy holding the “Don’t take away my breast exams” sign at PP’s rally: He doesn’t worry about losing breast exams for himself, I think he is one of the guys who does PP breast exams and doesn’t want to give his volunteer opportunity up.
There are probably pimps holding PP signs that say, “Don’t take away abortion rights for my underage sex slaves”
Hi Mary Alice,
We will just have different perspectives on this picture. I remember the days when young women were out in force, supporting our opponents. Now this is what is left.
I see that as progress.
However your point is taken, the woman is taking a stand, as we all need to do.
Caitlyn, have you ever received a mammogram or other cancer screening at a Planned Parenthood? According to this series of phone calls, PP doesn’t actually provide them:
http://liveaction.org/blog/planned-parenthood-ceos-false-mammogram-claim-exposed/
From the release: “In the tapes, a Live Action actor calls 30 Planned Parenthood clinics in 27 different states, inquiring about mammograms at Planned Parenthood. Every Planned Parenthood, without exception, tells her she will have to go elsewhere for a mammogram, and many clinics admit that no Planned Parenthood clinics provide this breast cancer screening procedure.”
PP has an operating budget of over a billion dollars, annually. 330 million is a drop in the bucket and won’t interfere with their ability to provide “services” in any way. Caitlyn, you are terribly misinformed, and I would suggest a bit of research on your part before further discourse.
“I did not say that taxpayer money goes directly toward abortion. If the taxpayer funds clear up private donor funds for abortion, then taxpayer money is STILL not directly paying for abortion. It’s poor logic to believe that this means that taxpayers fund abortion.”
Yeah, let’s play that game. Did you know that taxpayers don’t pay for war? We don’t! We pay for guns. We pay for missiles. We pay to train our troops to fight. We pay to give them a place to live and food to eat. We pay to send them overseas. We pay for their jeeps and tanks and planes. But we do NOT pay for them to “fight”! Not directly, anyway! So that means we don’t pay for war.
I’d say the biggest thing to take away here is, if defunding PP reduces access to abortions, they can’t say that taxpayer’s money does not go to abortion. PP supporters have to pick one argument or the other, maybe now this crazy argument about federal funding not supporting abortion will end.
To those who say the money doesn’t go DIRECTLY to abortion, you have to understand that this is not the point because money will still affect abortions in some way. The money is still enabling a company that provides abortion. Taxpayers provide the rent from the PP buildings, they fund the electricity that powers the tools used in an abortion and besides that any money PP raises independently for other expenses can now be substituted for abortion costs.
If I may give an analogy, say I know someone who happens to sell drugs for a living out of their home. I am against selling drugs and I don’t want my money to support drug dealing because it is morally wrong. Say this guy needs to borrow $2,000 from me to pay his rent. At the time I don’t know he sells drugs and I give him the money for his rent. I then find out he has $2,000 saved that hes using to buy more drugs. Now I have enabled him to continue buying and selling drugs and I have paid his rent so he can still sell drugs out of his home. Now he is doing something illegal and ruining lives in his community by selling drugs. I have paid his rent so he can keep selling drugs from his home and I have given him money so he can buy more drugs to sell. He could say the money I gave him in no way funded the drugs he’s dealing but obviously I have enabled him to keep dealing.
Society obviously doesn’t have to worry that if she can’t get contraceptives she will either abort or give birth to a child who will be neglected or mistreated. A condom might be in order to prevent STDs.
A male character in his 20s once said he preferred older women because “you don’t have to worry about getting them knocked up.” That lady should put that silly sign down and try to find a fellow like that.
