Pro-life photos of the week: Green-eyed monster of choice; police protecting abortion
Last week I noted the youthful pro-life glow so evident at the Supreme Court when we were celebrating the Hobby Lobby decision that a photo of one of the our groups ended up in Cosmopolitan.
Pro-life movement doesn’t kill its young
Dave Weigel at Slate also noted the phenomenon - with a twinge of jealousy perhaps? “The abortion rights protesters ran the square, with their most camera-friendly interns and staffers lofting signs….”
So here’s another – of many – exuberant victory shots, this one via Reuters. (click all photos to enlarge)…
Police protect abortion
On the flip side, Reuters posted another photo steeped in irony – police protecting Planned Parenthood, the United States’ largest abortion provider, in the wake of the Supreme Court’s buffer zone decision. This ruling freed pro-life advocates to once again approach mothers planning to kill their babies with a message of hope and help.
I expect this photo will end up in the Abortion Holocaust Museum some day…
On the implied topic of violence, here’s a must read post, “Beyond buffer zones: the risky business of pro-life activism.”
Where I live not only do the police protect Planned Parenthood, they are paid by them. In any disputes, Planned Parenthood sends out the officer who invariably warns, tickets, or arrests us. Many of these disputes are manufactured by them because we do our best to obey the law and police ourselves. (Planned Parenthood has yet to prevail in court. Past cases have been dismissed. One case is pending.)
I have raised repeatedly that this is a conflict of interest. I feel strongly that the police should be neutral and only on the side of the law not their employer. The practice continues; though, overt nitpicking declined.
Meanwhile, at the same time I believe the police failed to protect minors who were under the age of consent for sexual activity. In a meeting, one officer stated that she would only investigate if the mother complained.

Yes, pro-life crowds are young and cute. Sure, there are plenty of us who are old and fat and bald — but we feel young again when we are at a pro-life rally!

And yes, the sidewalk is a dangerous place. The pro-choicers believe that killing is a suitable solution to just about any sort of problem, and they think we are a problem.
Be careful out there. They will not respect your youth or your age.

“I expect this photo will end up in the Abortion Holocaust Museum some day…” – that’d be never then. Abortion is not a holocaust. If abortion ever features in a museum it will be as a part of the work which was done to give women equal rights and freedom.
“The pro-choicers believe that killing is a suitable solution to just about any sort of problem” – come on now, you know that isn’t true.
“and they think we are a problem” – now that’s true.
“Be careful out there. They will not respect your youth or your age.” – that’s like an almighty black cauldron comparing itself to a delicate little kettle. Pro-choicers don’t shoot or firebomb.

I have been in involved in pro life work on and off since 1990 and its beautiful to see so many enthusiastic young people in the movement. Keep up the good work, kids. This “oldhead” is tired!

“abortion rights protesters” I know this isn’t the point of your post, but I couldn’t resist pointing out the Slate “journalist” didn’t even attempt to hide his partiality and bias. Can you think of a more negatively charged monicker for him to label prolifers than that?
