Liberals drool over idea that politicians may become pro-choice
Ryan identifies as Catholic and previously described himself as pro-life. He has supported several pieces of anti-abortion legislation during his time in Congress — including restrictions on minors seeking abortions, a ban on embryonic stem cell research, and a ban on so-called “partial birth” abortions.
But, according to his new op-ed, Ryan has since “come to believe that we must trust women and families — not politicians — to make the best decision for their lives.”
The congressman says he has listened to women across the country talk about their personal experiences with abortion. Some told him they became pregnant from abusive relationships or from sexual assaults. Others said they couldn’t afford to have another child.
Ryan heard from women who developed serious health issues during their pregnancies, and from underage girls are were afraid their parents would kick them out for getting pregnant.
“These women gave me a better understanding of how complex and difficult certain situations can become. And while there are people of good conscience on both sides of this argument, one thing has become abundantly clear to me: the heavy hand of government must not make this decision for women and families,” Ryan writes. “No federal or state law banning abortion can honestly and fairly take into account the various circumstances that make each decision unique.”…
Ryan’s change of heart may signal a potential path forward for reproductive rights supporters eager to shift the political landscape around abortion, which has remained largely unchanged for the past several decades.

Yes, Congressman Ryan, there are a myriad of reasons, but one fact remains. Elective abortion is the direct and deliberate act of taking the life of another human being often in a violent manner. It is barbarism disguised as medicine. One can be compassionate towards the mothers without advocating for and resorting to child sacrifice. I would hope the few remaining pro-life Democrats would be a voice for that compassion towards mother and child.
When the heavy hand of government fails to uphold the inalienable right to life and protect the innocent, I fear all our rights are in jeopardy.
Congressman, in a country that’s trending pro-life, I suspect you did not listen to enough people. Did you not see nor hear the half of million folks who marched on Washington DC and elsewhere across this land? Did you not consult abortion survivors, women harmed by abortion, adoptees and learn our stories?
What has the Democrat party offered you in exchange for your pro-life vote? We all know Democrats who were once pro-life e.g. Gephardt, Gore, who abandoned life for the national spotlight.
“Some told him they became pregnant from abusive relationships or from sexual assaults.”
Translation: Children that have an abusive/assaultive parent should be killed by their non-abusive/non-assaultive parent.
“Ryan identifies as Catholic”
Where and when does he attend Mass?
For a second there I was scared you were talking about Paul Ryan…
That’s what I thought at first too, Navi!
I was preparing to crawl back in bed and pout all day, but then I took a closer look at the article and got dressed for the day!
So did I my WI friends!!
I do have to wonder how prolife someone could be if they go from prolife to proabortion.
Hhhmmmmmm.
Personally prolife but who am I to tell a woman what to do with her body right???
At first I was like…wtf….I knewPaul Ryan… he sponsored personhood for the unborn..
Ugh…… I was becoming disenchanted with all of humanity when I was thinking this was PAUL Ryan! Whew! What a total sigh of relief. I thought maybe Paul Ryan had undergone some sort of brain transplant or something. Well, maybe we need to let TIM Ryan hear from the defenders of babies all over the country – how difficult THEIR circumstances are and how traumatic and painful their death sentences are!
“Identifies as Catholic” but obviously not practicing his faith if he’s willing to support abortion. The Catholic Church has stated on more than one occasion (and often emphatically) that abortion is a moral evil. As a Catholic, this makes me very sad that someone who calls himself Catholic would even THINK of supporting abortion. He has to know the Church’s stance on the issue, at least, I’d hope he did. If he doesn’t, then he needs to be informed.
“Pregnant from abusive relationships”? Well, that describes where I came from!
