Almost 8 months ago infamous late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart began aborting at a mill in Germantown, Maryland.
Now Operation Rescue, harkening back to its historical roots, is hosting Summer of Mercy 2.0, 9 days of prayers and protesting in front of that mill, from July 30-August 7:
20 years ago, thousands of Christians responded to a prophetic “Joel 2” call from the Holy Spirit and came to Wichita, Kansas in the summer of 1991. They came to publicly stand as a peaceful and prophetic witness for life.
The eyes of the nation were glued to their televisions night after night as God’s people prayed, worshipped and sought the Holy Spirit for an end to the horror of abortion….
This July 30-August 7, 2011, we believe God is issuing a similar call to “establish justice in the gates” of our nation…. This is the home base of the most infamous late-term abortion provider in America today, Leroy Carhart, and is in the shadow of Washington, D.C.
Carhart routinely does abortions on women who are 7 and 8 months pregnant. In the past year, 17 states have considered legislation to ban the kind of abortion that he does. Right now he is under a full investigation in Nebraska and by the Maryland Board of Physicians….

I think so too Jack. Also I fail to see why anyone would want to celebrate the fact that Wichita is abortion free due to fear and murder… but I guess we can just skip over that little truth…
I don’t think any murder is a cause for celebration. And I really dislike Operation Rescue and their tactics. Hope that everyone stays safe.
Are we talking about the same thing? The Summer of Mercy didn’t celebrate murder. Fear and murder didn’t deter Carhart or Means from attempting to open an abortion center in Wichita, so don’t present your speculation as truth.
I wasn’t involved with the Summer of Mercy but it looks like they were emulating Dr. Martin King’s efforts against segregation.
I wish I could go. I am in a play right now, so I cannot. However, my prayers will be with everyone there.
I do not see what is so wrong about Operation Rescue. They investigate the dangers of “clinics”, and turn them in for health code violations and other ways they break the law. They pray outside clinic doors. They offer help to pregnant women. They used to block clinic entrances because it used to be legal to, and they would do anything to save the lives of children. Yes, some of them get aggressive, but that is usually only when others become aggressive against them, and that does not include everyone in their organization. There are a couple members I have met who I do not particularly care for, but that does not mean that all of them are like that. The few members of OR who have rather questionable tactics do not necessarily represent the whole of the organization, just as those few with violent tactics do not even begin to represent the pro-life movement.
Furthermore, this event is not only sponsored by Operation Rescue, but by many pro-life organizations, including the Archdiocese of Maryland, the Knights of Columbus, and Priests For Life.
My problem with Operation Rescue is the violence that has been connected to them. My lesser problem with them is the tactics they use in their efforts. They have the legal right to do what they want, but a lot of their activities, at least in the past, are not exactly something I condone. Like I said, I hope it all goes well, that everyone stays safe and no one breaks the law.
Biggz: Are we obliged to lament emancipation of slaves in the South merely because the executive order that freed them was motivated by, was legally valid under, strategically implemented and buttressed presidential war powers? Because the Christianist tyrant Lincoln made a “covenant with God” to do so? Because he was responsible for hundreds of thousands of American dead? Because the economic disaster wrought on the South led to decades — a century — of violent racism?
Good grief, Biggz, pro-lifers lament any death. In your view, daily death of unborn innocents is just dandy. You’d be happier if women had only to walk a block to the nearest abortuary — “safe, legal, handy, inexpensive, and rare” or somesuch.
Only fringe lunatics celebrate the death of abortionists. But mainstream Planned Parenthood types celebrate any time a new clinic opens, because killing the unborn is providing such a wonderful service to women.
It’s tough to pretend pro-lifers are most like their John Brown fringe. But it’s easy to understand that pro-choicers, in the mainstream, lament any lack of abortion “services” to women, and the attendant destruction of unborn life. They smile and breath a sigh of relief only when the slaughter is in full swing.

rasqual – My point is about how this summer of mercy was the beginning of the intimidation and threats against abortion providers in Wichita. There is nothing Martin Luther King like in denying someone their legal rights through threat and use of violence. Things got so out of hand down there that it turned into vandalism, bombings, and murder. Also it was operation Rescue that put up the “Wanted Posters” of abortion doctors who were later murdered. To this very day there are doctors who have or are currently trying to open women health centers in Wichita and they are threatened with death letters talking about how they need to check under their cars everyday because today might be the day a bomb is planted under it… That is the definition of terrorism.
Looking at this from an anti-choice stand point I would be far more proud of the legislative accomplishments you guys have made in the last year and denounce the terrorist tactics that were used to make Wichita abortion-less and are still being used down there today…
Not everyone in America thinks abortion is in any way murder, however I think we all can agree that shooting a doctor to death in his church on Sunday is nothing but murder.
Wichita is a perfect example of how not to get your point across, imagine how much further your movement would be if these domestic terrorist acts had not occurred and been supported by some pro-life groups.
