Squeamy guts

Of all the hate mail I got last week, this one most amused me.
I’m posting it not so much to prove I have guts, because I’m not actually sure what Mr. Belanger thought he wrote that I would be afraid to post.
No, I’m posting it to rebut a tired common argument the other side tosses that some of us fall prey to: “How many babies have you adopted?” as if one has to earn the right to try to protect a child from being murdered….
In his article, “Five bad ways to argue about abortion,” premiere pro-life apologist Scott Klusendorf (whose excellent new book this site is promoting) explains:
Instead of defending the abortion act itself, some “pro-choice” advocates personally attack those who do not share their views….
Instead of defending their views with facts and arguments… [they] attack[ ] the character of pro-lifers. We call this the ad hominem fallacy. It is fallacious reasoning because even if the personal attack is true, it does nothing to refute the pro-lifer’s argument….
About this particular attack, Klusendorf writes:
Consider… the claim that pro-lifers are hypocritical to protest abortion unless they adopt babies they do not want aborted. For the moment, let’s assume there are not 2 million American families willing to do this, as is the case. How would the alleged reluctance of pro-lifers to adopt babies justify the act of abortion? While it is true that pro-life advocates should help those facing crisis pregnancies, it is not true that abortion is justified whenever that obligation is left unmet.
Imagine a bigot arguing, Unless you agree to marry my wife, you have no right to oppose me beating her. Or, Unless you are willing to adopt my 3 sons by noon today, I shall execute them. If you reject his ultimatum, is he morally justified performing acts of violence on innocent victims?…
[A]bortion advocates must offer facts and arguments in support of their position. Attacking people personally, even if those attacks are true, will not make their case or refute ours.

That could be a new name for abortion-advocates: “aboritons.”
This man doesn’t know that CPC help mothers so they can finish their pregnancies. I know my Local Right to Life collects $ for single moms struggling, to help with rent or utilities or to help fix a car so she can get to work. They specify a fund name and the $ is then allocated to help that one mom.
Not to mention the diapers, baby clothes and other supplies that are donated for these moms.

Exactly. He probably thinks they just convince women not to have abortions and then dump them on the street. Note to Don: Don’t bother arguing if you’re that uninformed.
“If you’re so damn set against genocide in Darfur, why don’t you move there and give all your money to starving children?”
“If you’re so damn set against global warming, why don’t you get rid of all your cars and refuse to ever fly in a plane?”
Besides, it never really matters to pro-choicers if you DO have adopted kids. They didn’t care that John McCain and his wife had adopted a daughter from a Bangladeshi orphanage. If Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt woke up tomorrow and suddenly became pro-life advocates, pro-choicers would hate them as much as they hate the rest of us.
This is a debate tactic I’ve used for years, and it’s never failed. Whenever a proabort makes a personal attack on me or prolifers generally, I simply admit that they are absolutely right, and sometimes even exaggerate what they say, and then say that is also true.
As an example, if they say “You prolifers don’t care about children after they are born”, I reply “You’re asbolutely right, we’re the coldest, most uncaring people on the planet”.
Then, after they get over the shock of my admitting my personal failings (and those of prolifers in general), I simply ask them “But how does that make it right to kill babies?”
The answer is almost always a muted, muttering silence. Or, they try to change the subject again.
Hey Jill – great post.
As for Mr. Belanger, please debate the issue with us, pitting your best understanding of science, humanity and what it means to be humane against ours.
We can do without the heated rhetoric, and get down to solid valid arguments as to why George Tiller was an intrinsically valuable human being, just like the thousands he aborted.
And to paraphrase – debate us publicly if you have the guts.

We also have scientific and medical embryology textbooks, and videos, photographs and personal testimonies as evidence as to why the pre-born are human beings and what abortion does to them.
It’s not hard to knock down a PC argument b/c all PCers do is tell lies. Lies don’t hold up well.
It appears that the pro choice people need books and articles teaching them how to argue their point of view and how to spell as well.
So, Don’s upset? So what?
Interesting. He posted that on another thread. Wasn’t satisfied with the torrent of responses (which he never addressed), so apparently he felt the need to email you directly. Hmm..
A very effective response.
Mr. Belanger, do your research into CPCs, adoption agencies, post-abortive counseling, and Right to Life. Learn about the people with whom you are debating before you make personal attacks. Better yet, learn about the subject matter of abortion.

It took me a second, but I just re-read the email and got the joke. I’m laughing out loud, quite literally. Aboritons. “Exterminate, exterminate!”
Maurderer, great post. You know actor, Ed Bagley Jr., was here for the Home and Garden Show. He’s very much into the entire global warming stuff. He was interviewed by the local paper. They asked him “How do you get around to all of your speaking engagements”? He responded that his speaking schedule had increased so much that he was “Flying these days, unfortunatly.”..LOL!
Ed says that he likes to drive his Prius when he is able.
LMBO. Is it just a coincidence that these people who write hate mail to you never can spell?
I was talking to one of my PL pals. He said “Always remember that swearing is a sign of stupidity.”
I think it is hilarious that folks don’t know YET that you are the gutsiest woman around!!!
Why do all pro-aborts swear?
Of all the propaganda that the pro-choice movement relies on, ad hominem has got to be one of my favorites. Not sure why.
An arsenal of any propaganda tactic that they wish: selective omission, euphoria, bandwagon, et cetera and they rely heavily on ad hominem. Now that’s a powerful little tactic!
You all think he is torqued? what if the babe told him no sex. I want to make love with my hiusband that will support me and my children. Males that wan’t pleasure without commitment would go without.
Last time I checked, Don belanger would take a little court ordered DNA test and have 18 years child support. We really don’t need to support them. He can pay child support.
I taught home bible studies to a woman with 3 children. Never married and 3 sources of child support. If he wants to be a real man and not hypocrite, get married and be a winner husband and father. Problem solved.
“Attacking people personally, even if those attacks are true, will not make their case or refute ours.”
I’ve been guilty of that more times than I care to admit. I’m working on improving that. And it would behoove certain prolifers on this site to do the same.
You know who you are.

My wife has a witty response to these assertions:
He provided the penis – he can provide the Pampers!
They usually bust out laughing.

I have three wonderfull children. I always in jest said a mans work ends on conception. It gets me a dirty look every time. Real men can change diapers. My wife nursed and we used cloth diapers at home.
Typical liberal who cant even spell!
But once again since they know they cannot attack the message, or in any way defend what abortion really is, so they attack the messenger.
hahaha, he tells Jill she hasn’t got the guts to post it. He wanted THAT posted? I’m surprised he had the guts to submit it.
ALL? I never have!
Typical pro-abort…now, tell me, who’s full of hate?
who is Don Belanger? And why should we care?
Secondly, I love how proaborts perpetrate the myth that all prolifers care about it the “fetus”. When in fact, the very opposite is true: we care about everyone involved in the pregnancy, mom baby and father too!
Carder @ 9:37am,
Okay… *blushing*
I would like to know why PCers never volunteer at a Crisis Pregnancy Center. If they are truly for a woman’s choice, where are their efforts to support a woman’s choice to keep her baby?
If they don’t have time to volunteer, how about a donation?
Sandy….. good point!
“I love how proaborts perpetrate the myth that all prolifers care about it the “fetus”. When in fact, the very opposite is true: we care about everyone involved in the pregnancy, mom baby and father too!”
No kidding. Let’s not forget the siblings of an aborted baby who are deprived of a brother or sister when a baby is aborted. I’d have a hard time thinking of a better gift for a child than a brother or sister.
Jill:
Have found ‘Belanger’s Bloviation’ to be amusing, as well.
So obvious that HE needs a proofreader in a reeeeal bad way!!
How can you adopt a baby that has been killed by its mother?
lol aboriton..
Greg,
Right? Entertaining, no?
“We also have scientific and medical embryology textbooks, and videos, photographs and personal testimonies as evidence as to why the pre-born are human beings and what abortion does to them.”
Is there any way we can protect the integrity of these textbooks & materials?? I noticed that some materials online are now “politicized.”
“potential to become” a human/person
I was in a grocery store yesterday and the lady checking me out starting saying that she didn’t have any opinions about whether women should have abortions or not but was upset with all the pro-lifers that interfered with people’s choices saying where were they when these children were being beaten and neglected? I was thinking to myself what are you talking about and how did we get to this subject. I got really quiet hoping she would realize that I was pro-life and since she “didn’t have an opinion about the matter” would just be quiet. She kept on. I finally said, “Well, I am pro-life so much so that I adopted my little boy even though I had already given birth to two children. That shut her up. So, there are pro-lifers out here that are living what they believe. My family has been richly rewarded for it by our adorable little boy.
