Stanek Sunday quote: “Worship the LORD your God… and none will miscarry or be barren in your land.” ~ Ex 23:25-26

Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water.
I will take away sickness from among you, and none will miscarry or be barren in your land.
I will give you a full life span.
~ Exodus 23:25-26, New International Version

OUCH! As a CHRISTIAN who LOVES God, and who has had five miscarriages..
this hurts. :(
I’m sorry for your painful losses.
I think the above scripture was a conditional promise to the always-wayward Israelites during that period of time. God focused a lot on blessings and curses if people did or did not follow Him. Joshua and Caleb were the two who were found faithful to God.

Not all Scripture can or should be applied to us personally, though we can learn valuable lessons from all of it. LL is correct.
I’m sorry for your losses and your understandable grief, Pamela. I don’t know this part of the Bible well but it seems like this is a verse that does not translate well out of context.
Hi Pamela.
I’m sorry for your losses.
As for the passage quoted, God was giving the Israelites instructions for entering the Promised Land. A world full of sin – normalcy – involves miscarriage and infertility. God was saying he would protect His people from unsafe water, food, sickness, miscarriage, and infertility if they obeyed Him (whole quote at link).
Miscarriage and infertility does not necessarily involve personal sin, although it can. But the broken world around us can also have an impact – steroids in our drinking water, a culture that says to delay childbearing, which is contrary to human biology, etc.
I am stuned by such. Nevertheles, the lord your God is a Living God. He wont let You Miscarry or be Burren for long.
