  • Abortion Pill Risks notes a disturbing recent case report which calls into question the safety of off-label use of RU-486 for abortion. The FDA relies on voluntary reporting of serious adverse events of the drug’s use:

A case report published in the July 2013 issue of Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology confirms the discovery of the first known global death case of “Fatal Clostridium septicum following medical termination of pregnancy.”…A number of different off-label or alternative medical abortion regimens have been recommended by providers in the United States. In the United States the FDA has issued public health advisories to warn health care professionals about the risks of sepsis and toxic shock in medical abortion and to reinforce use of the FDA approved regimen which does not include the vaginal use of misoprostol.

  • At Secular Pro-Life, Frank Ludwig investigates the frequency of infanticide occurring in abortion facilities:

Abortion rights campaigners continue to claim that Gosnell was an isolated case, but there are multiple indications, such as the mentioned statements of Melanie Green, Jill Stanek, [TX abortion Douglas] Karpen’s employees, Planned Parenthood and Dr. Emily’s assistant, among many others, that the gosnelling of newborn children is a common method of dealing with failed abortion attempts, in some cases even against the wishes of the mother.

  • Right to Life of Michigan says abortion advocates like to portray their views as mainstream, but they aren’t – not even among women:

According to the 2013 Gallup poll on abortion, 57% of women believe abortion should be illegal or legal in only a few circumstances, along with 59% of men.

Only 28% of women agree with abortion advocates that abortion should be legal in every circumstance.

  • Secular Pro-Life writes that the CEO of Sir Richard’s condom company intends to donate one condom to a developing country for each condom purchased because “if everyone bought our condoms, we could really change the world.” SPL says:

According to the CDC, while condoms are highly effective at preventing HIV transmission, the typical use failure rate for condoms as a contraceptive is a dismal eighteen percent. People often fail to make that distinction, and therefore do not appreciate the chances of pregnancy as fully as they should. No doubt that misunderstanding will be magnified in a region that has little in the way of healthcare access and sex education.

Lopez: The soul of our nation depends on ability to “nourish life”

Kathryn_Jean_Lopez_by_Gage_SkidmoreThe frightened teenage girl. The single inner-city mom who has made some bad choices and doesn’t quite know what she can do. The 20-something on a career track whose boyfriend is not up to the task of fatherhood. The busy young couple that determines it is not the right time. These are all real scenarios, involving real fears, influenced deeply by a culture that pretends abortion is a quick fix, a solution to a problem.

The health of not just our citizens but our national soul demands that we do a better job, that we work hard to foster and nourish life, both in the womb and outside of it. It’s the only way to ensure a society that lives up to the ideals it was founded upon….
