Eduardo on Today
I got a little misty eyed at the end. I think all mothers will. From The Today Show, May 6…
According to an email from Bella’s promoters, Bella was the #1 selling dvd in Amazon’s love/romance category yesterday and #5 on the entire Amazon site. That’s great.
Promoters are encouraging store buyers to get Bella at Walmart because it’s the largest dvd retailer in the world.

Que bella!
I am glad I rented BELLA. If I like it enough, I might buy it @ Target. For now, its just a rental.
Oh my goodness,
The more I see this man, the more I love him!!
Please go see Bella – it is an awesome movie.
And to you ladies out there – Jose, Eduardo’s character, is what a REAL man should be.
Ah, the prayers of a mother. God bless my own dear mom!
I just rented and watched this movie last night, and I am going to buy it right away. I absolutely loved it!
The fact that this man and the directors and producers are people of faith is just wonderful. His mother, no doubt, is very proud of him for taking a stand and speaking about things that truly matter. :)
Can hardly wait to open my Mother’s Day present-BELLA! Will watch it for the 4th time. Eduardo is a man of character.
It’s always nice to see my future hubsters on television!
:sigh:
RE: Jaspers Quote of the Day
It is standard procedure for a patient to have an ultrasound before an abortion. It may not be a “law” persay, but neither is washing your hands before surgery.
I think, and correct me if I’m wrong, the law was going to make it a requirement for women to be shown the ultrasound.
While it should certainly be encouraged, you can’t make a law to FORCE someone to look at something. It just doesn’t make sense, no matter how good the intention. What are they going to do if the patient doesn’t want to look – tape her eyelids open?
I don’t think thumb sucking was the major concern here, especially considering 90% of abortions are done before that could be happening anyway. I think it has more to do with 1. what I mentioned before about it being uninforcable, and 2. that its rather condescending to assume a woman doesn’t know what a fetus looks like if she has already said she doesn’t want to see it.
Again though, thats not to say it shouldn’t be encouraged. I think it should be. In the same way that we can encourage people to quit smoking, but can’t pass a law that forces them to.
Elizabeth,
Your hubs is a good man. :)
Amanda,
I don’t think we can make a law that forces the woman to actually look at the ultrasound. If I’m not mistaken, the law is more that the providers HAVE to offer it or have the patient sign something saying they didn’t want to look at it or they did and they’re still having the abortion.
that its rather condescending to assume a woman doesn’t know what a fetus looks like if she has already said she doesn’t want to see it.
Why is it condescending? We assume people don’t know a lot about other things. Isn’t that the whole premise behind Comprehensive sex-education? So that people know ALL the facts and then decide what to do? Maybe she doesn’t know what the fetus looks like..maybe she thinks it doesn’t look like anything and it’s easier to get rid of. It’s a lot easier to deny the truth when you don’t have to see the truth. I remember my first ultrasound at 8 weeks or so. I was astounded. I mean, sure I had seen pictures and read about development..but seeing it right in front of me and knowing that was growing in my body made me connect more than I had before.
I don’t really find it condescending at all to present all the facts to a person..because yeah, some people really don’t know. You have shared many stories on here about people’s misconceptions about contraception, sex, etc…why is it much more condescending to assume people don’t know about fetal development?
Hehe, Carla, I know! That’s why we’re getting maaarried! (He just doesn’t know it yet)
:giggles:
What a stud!
Hey Elizabeth – buzz off (lol)
Eduardo’s MINE!
How do we know he doesn’t have a girlfriend? ;)
*reminds self to watch BELLA all the way through tonight*
Elizabeth –
This is what sucks about getting information from websites with opinions. If you read a pro choice website, it would make it out that the law would be that women have to look at the ultrasound to have an abortion. If you read a pro life website, it would make it out that the law is only making it a law to give an ultrasound.
Its probably somewhere in the middle, but I’d have to read the wording to be sure.
As far as what I said about it being condescending, I meant that if the woman said “No, I know what it looks like and I don’t want to see it”, to have it be against the law for her to do that would be condescending. I don’t think theres anything wrong with saying something like “we strongly encourage you to view your ultrasound before we schedule your abortion”.
But anyways, if this was simply an attempt to make having an ultrasound a law, regardless of if the mother does or doesn’t look at it, it probably didn’t pass because its standard proedure anyways, so unless there have been reports of it NOT being done (which I’ve never read about) it would be kind of silly to make it a law.
And while we’re on the topic of husbands… I love my boyfriend dearly…but:

He probably does, but that can be remedied (hehehe) just kidding…..
Let’s hope he gets a real nice girl from back home!
The man is too busy promoting the movie…….but yeah, I would so hook you up. Gotta be an Operation Outcry girl with me. :) I am so proud of you Elizabeth for raising such a sweet girlybug! It can’t be easy!!

I bought Bella for my wonderful daughter and daughter in law
for Mother’s day.
They both have 4 children – 2 boys and 2 girls.
My daughter’s youngest 2 are twins.
Talk about great Mothers!!
Prayers they will be as blessed as I was by this tender life affirming story.
Bobby:
You think Eddyman is a what?
Was that a Freudian slip?
Are you in the closet or out of your mind?
This homophobe is devastated. I think I’m gonna go pro-choice and be TR’s sidekick.
I’m kidding……………..
hehe. I was once told that’s the guy way of complimenting another guy…
OK, Bobby baby, whenever you, or Jasper, or LesforLife, or Hal posts a good one, the code word will be…..
What a stud!
Agreed?
WORD.
Hisman and Bobby,
You’re bothnuts!
I watched BELLA tonight. I was confused about the end and missed a scene or two, but it was a breathe of fresh air – no profanity!
Bobby and Hisman,
What a stud!
Michael
MK:
What’s a bothnut?
You really don’t want to know what I think of you, my Novena mama, do you?
I went to WallyWorldMart and bought Bella. I will opine on the film tomorrow.
Sweet dreams Bobby.
Sweet dreams Bobby.

Please don’t go there, HisMan! Lol.
Bobby, I knew exactly what you meant! :)
Hisman,
Feeling the Novena crunch are we? I wanted to ask you if you’re sure your 12 year old is thinking of becoming a pastor and not a priest, but I was afraid you would tell me what you think of me…:)
Amanda,
Could you please respond to my post on the “Breaking News” thread?
Thanks.
Am I the only pro-lifer who’s avoiding Bella? I’ve been very emotional since I had my daughter, and I don’t think I could take watching the scene with the accident.
I think I’m going to give it a pass. Until, I don’t know, she goes to college or something. :)
Jen R,
I knew there was a difficult scene in Bella, and I was kind of waiting for it, so it didn’t bother me. It doesn’t really take you by surprise and is a short scene. It is a very beautiful movie. Excellent acting including a lovely portrayal of Eduardo’s character’s family which has been ignored by critics!
I can relate. I went through a long phase of being very emotional after I had a baby. I couldn’t watch ER anymore, especially about babies being born. I couldn’t bring myself to watch “Titanic” when the rest of the world was seeing it multiple times. I finally saw it about 5 years ago! Be sure to talk to someone if you feel like your “emotional” phase is going too long. It shouldn’t last forever. Also, be sure to eat well and get exercise and sleep. It helps get the mind and body back in balance. God bless you!
That is a very tough scene, I sobbed through it. But it tied the whole movie together for me. I can’t wait to watch Bella tomorrow!! :)
Janet, I appreciate your concern. I think I’m within normal parameters — I have a history of depression, so I’ve been very much on the lookout for signs of PPD. I’m also still nursing, and from what I understand that tends to extend the “normal” overemotionalism. :)
