Another pro-life female political rising star
World magazine included an inspiring feature story about Republican Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann in its October 4/11 edition. I became aware and impressed by Bachmann during her stand to defund Planned Parenthood as well as her debate on Larry King against PP CEO Cecile Richards.
Below is the first portion of Bachmann’s story. World magazine has graciously made the entire article available to Stanek readers by clicking here, normally only perusable by subscription.

Michelle Bachmann is truly a remarkable woman.
So is Sarah Palin.
This “concern” over a woman’s ability to raise children and work is laughable and highly selective. Didn’t feminists maintain women could do this? Great, these conservative Republican women are proving their point. Talk about an irony. If only they were liberal Democrats!
I have to wonder at such a glaring double standard. Did anyone question Robert Kennedy’s ability to be a father to 10 children, with Ethel announcing another one, and president of the the United States at the time he ran?
Did anyone question John Kennedy’s ability to be a father to a small child, with another one on the way, when he ran for president?
Has anyone questioned Obama’s ability to be a father to two young daughters as well as president?
Come on feminists, where are you when your “sisters” are in need of your support?
Amazing. She has not been discovered by the party of smears. She will be attacked to a much greater extent than the Dem congressman that has a balancing act with One wife and 2 mistresses.
xppc
Are you refering to the Democrat congressman in Florida who replaced Mark Foley? The one who paid his ex-mistress hush money, possibly with the knowledge and sanction of the Democrat leadership? The same leadership that pounded its chest in self righteous indignation over Foley?
Melissa Hart (who was defeated two years ago) is trying to get back her seat. She’s a pro life woman, too. So is Senator Elizabeth Dole.
It’s so awesome to see more pro-life women in higher places, especially from my home state of Minnesota!
I loved this philosophy: “radical abandonment to God’s call.”
The religion nay-sayers will hate and attack her for it, but it is such a true way to live life. While the phrase has such negative connotations now, this is what George Bush meant by compassionate conservatism.
Michelle Bachmann is one of my favorite people in Congress. It is great to see her get some recognition!
It’s good to see strong women, but where are the men?
here’s a nice followup article in world that was written about the ADF.
Seems they agree that the poll numbers dont lie. Americans dont want churches (as orginizations) making political endorsements.

Bachmann was until recently considered safe for re-election in MN-6, until she was tied to an effort to get a pardon for a crook who was involved in a big scandal in MN (she withdrew that request, after publicity). Dems are now pouring money into the race in an “October Surprise”, and Bachman’s campaign is in panic mode. What will happen on Nov 4? Stay tuned.
Michelle is awesome! Right across the river from me!

Wow. It never ceases to amaze me how liberals enjoy pointing out specks in the eyes of others before taking the PLANKS out of their own eyes.
No one is without blemish, but it seems like these days that a Republican could sneeze the wrong way and he/she would be sent down the river, while a Democrat can lie, cheat, steal, have multiple affairs, and rig elections…and no one even blinks.
I used to have a cute little children’s book called “The Upside Down, Topsy Turvy World.” But I sure don’t enjoy living in one.
By the way, how many crooks did Bill Clinton pardon?
Chris: It’s good to see strong women, but where are the men?
“Behind many strong women, there is a man.”
Kel: how many crooks did Bill Clinton pardon?
Probably a whole bunch, just like Republican Presidents do.
Hi Grace!
I’m a Minnesooootan too!
I just attended an event last night where Michelle Bachmann was helping a fellow republican win his district. She is awesome and such a great example and role model for women.
She is a tiny little woman with a big heart and great mind.
I loved her speech at the RNC. I hope her star continues to rise.
Michelle Bachman is Minnesota’s Palin.
She won’t debate (Neither did palin, she just recited her talking points over and over no matter the question).
http://kstp.com/article/stories/S616817.shtml for a clip of the empty chair at the debate Bachman chickened out of.
People were upset when Monica was under clinton’s desk should be reminded of Michelle’s makeout sessions with Pres. Bush. It was ALL over the news when I lived in the Twin Cities. She made a real fool out of Minnesotans.
Yep, real classy that Michelle Bachman.
“Michelle’s makeout sessions with Pres. Bush”
What????
Yo La Tango
You know better than to make claims that you can’t back up.
Two more Palinisms of the day:
Troopergate testimony shows she blocked funding for preventing domestic violence, which is epidemic in AK, in retribution, again, for Monagan’s refusal to fire her ex brother in law. Public safety takes a back seat to her personal vendetta.
AK Co-Governor First Dude may not get national security clearance due to his long association with the extremist America hating group, the Alaska Independence Party, so his plans to be co-President of the US don’t look so good.
Palin’s record in AK show her to lack the temperment, judgment, intelligence, ethics and qualifications for ANY public office, even Mayor of Wasilla. She can run from the media, but she can’t hide her record.
Yo La Tango, I think you misspelled Tengo. Also your link does not work. Well, it works, but this is what I get:

I’ve met women in LaLeche League that could probably take on the Taliban with one arm. These women, like Palin and Bachmann are the type of people we need in government today.
And they are the type that will stand up to the Hals and Dougs of the world who behave like wusses when times are tough, and pull through fine.
Ya know what they say – sometimes the best man for the job IS a WOMAN!!
Right on Patricia!
What do you think of the election result?
I am normally a Conservative supporter but they lost my vote when Harper said he would not allow an abortion debate. That only left me with the CHP.
However, Gary Lunn was reelected in my area, a conservative and I think Gary is prolife.
I am going to contact his office about the abortion issue. Maybe if enough constituents pressure some of these conservatives something will get done.
We can only hope and do the best we can!
Also I wrote to my local paper protesting the Morgantaler “award.” However they have not seen fit to publish my letter.
Well I’m very angry at Mr Harper. Another complete wuss.
I just want him to get rid of those human rights tribunals.
The prolife profamily guy won in my riding – and the guy he beat is my ex’s lawyer! So I am feeling even better because of that! Now he can go back to just being a regular idiot instead of a government paid idiot.
Liz 1:46, YLT may be referring to Bachmann’s VERY enthusiastic approach to Bush after the State of the Union, which is well documented. There is a hilarious video of her on U Tube set to the song “Take My Breath Away…” One might suspect Mr. Bachmann was not amused…
Guess “World” didn’t research their puff piece…
Harper may be a conservative on economic issues, but he follows much of the country by being liberal on social issues. I am angry too and want him OUT as leader and a pro life leader instead.
However its not likely to happen any time soon.
But as I said, maybe if enough MPs hear from constituents about the issue they will feel they need to do something. Certainly the conservative party is the only one with pro life people. The liberals are pro abortion and so are the NPD. Extremely so!
I’m going to write to that Alberta MP who had the private members bill to make it a double crime to kill a pregnant woman. His bill went no where but maybe its time to bring it up again.

It was. Though the difference is likely that Clinton gave pardons to a lot of his buddies. ;)
The point is that any wrongdoing by Dems is so often swept under the rug, or at least it is shrugged off as being unimportant. Even when it comes to the statements that are made, there is a double standard. You can have racist Dems like Robert Byrd (KKK) making stupid comments and nobody cares…Trent Lott makes one off-hand comment and he is lambasted to the point where he has to step down. If Lott was wrong, then why isn’t Byrd?
It just gets old after a while.
“And they are the type that will stand up to the Hals and Dougs of the world who behave like wusses when times are tough, and pull through fine.”
What??
Kel,
Democrat Senator Robert Byrd, former klansman, klan recruiter, and vigorous opponent of the civil and voting rights acts, used the “N” word on TV. He was referring to “white” n——, whatever those are. I understand the congressional black caucus found this objectionable but said nothing, since Byrd is such a powerful man in the Senate and Democrat party.
Can’t blame them. Senator Byrd, never a man to tolerate black folk getting just a little too uppity, always appreciates black folk who know their “place”.
“And they are the type that will stand up to the Hals and Dougs of the world who behave like wusses when times are tough…

Re: Robert Byrd: Mr. Byrd has apologized repeatedly for his time in the KKK, and has said that he would be willing to do so for the rest of his life. How many times has Michelle Bachman apologized for making decent repubilicans and good Christians look like absolute fools with her lack of logic and her use of religion as a political tool that pisses on everything that Jesus ever stood for.
YLT,
Don’t make me laugh. It wasn’t Michelle who terrorized black citizens. It wasn’t Michelle who filibustered civil and voting rights legislation in order to keep black citizens in their “place”, It wasn’t Michelle using the “N” word on national TV, after supposedly expressing regret for years in the klan.
YLT, you liberal/Democrat/Obama supporters can alway so easily excuse the transgressions of your own.

My name is in relation to a band. That is the correct spelling for the band’s name. Next time find something real to comment about.
Posted by: Mary at October 15, 2008 4:30 PM
You know who blocked civil rights legislation and even voted against recognizing Martin Luther King Jr. Day? John McCain.
As for Byrd, he never excuses his transgrssions, if he did he would not be so profusely remoreful about it to this day.
Michele Bachmann makes me want to stab myself in the face with a spork.
I was so embarrassed that my home district voted for her. >_
YLT,
So profusely remorseful he uses the “N” word on national TV.
Opposition to MLK day existed because it meant another gov’t holiday and a shut down of services. Even the late Coretta Scott King, widow of Dr.King, felt the best way to honor her husband was not by taking a day off, but by working, going to school, and being the best you can at what you do. The memory of a man like Dr.King is not honored by taking a day off.
The Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act of 1964 and 1965 were filibustered by Byrd and a number of other Democrats. It took Republican support to get these measures passed.
What Civil Rights legislation are you referring to in reference to John McCain?
has anyone seen the video of her molesting W? It is hysterical. This woman is a fruitcake….people riding on dinosaurs…
Well, I’d rather have a fruit cake than a peach pit.
If you’re going to talk about taking days off, why do we take Christmas off? Seriously, It’s just another day. At least MLK jr. lived in flesh and blood and everyone can agree on it. Why do we take a day off for a guy that cannot scientifically be proved to ever have walked the earth. Even if Jesus did live I doubt he would want us taking a day off to stuff our faces and max out our credit cards.
And no, the bible isnt a science book.
That’s funny, YLT…you don’t think history can prove the existence of Christ, but you can’t even spell the band Yo La Tengo’s name correctly, and they have a website to prove their existence.
Most reasonable people, even atheists, agree that someone named Jesus, called the Christ, walked the earth 2000 years ago. He’s not just recorded in Jewish history, He’s recorded in Roman history as well. Whether or not you believe He was God incarnate is another matter entirely.
You can work on Christmas if you want to–you could always go into retail! ;)
Here’s an idea Yo La, YOU don’t take Christmas off. YOU can protest Christmas and go to work, k?
Sounds like a plan to me.
“Michele Bachmann makes me want to stab myself in the face with a spork.
I was so embarrassed that my home district voted for her. >_”
Rae, get to your room, you’re grounded for a week. No compter or TV :)
@Jasper: Awwwwwww! I don’t wanna! I’m not even in that district anymore, I wasn’t even then (I voted in Minneapolis that year)! I voted for Keith Ellison (the only Muslim in congress) and will probably vote Ellison again this year!
Patricia: And they are the type that will stand up to the Hals and Dougs of the world who behave like wusses when times are tough, and pull through fine.
You’re just mad because Hal and I have shown you up so many times.
A good part of the way to get through tough times is to prepare in advance, and I hope Hal’s done that – I certainly have.
I think it is kinda funny when people get so hot-headed that instead of discussing issues and ideas they take to insulting the intelligence of others and sniping about grammar. If you need a punching bag, go to a gym. Don’t insult people and then go to church on Sunday (or any other day) and think that you’re square with God. I’ve got no problem with faith, what I do have a problem with is using faith as a spiritual cover for smear attacks.

say what? My dear, it may come as a complete surprise to you, but I have only pity for Hal- a father of two dead children
God only knows what you’ve done with the kind of values you have, m’dear.
As for “shown me up” – oh, you mean in your lack of reasoning and irrational arguments. Yes. That’s very true.
It’s too bad you don’t apply your last statement to the day you die and meet our Lord.
Patricia, I imagine that Hal pities you too, to some extent. He doesn’t need certain constructs that you do, and for those who don’t need them, to think of needing them is often a sad thing.
I’m no mind-reader, though, and perhaps he feels differently.
Your beliefs are fine for you, but in no way do they necessarily apply to other people. Irrationality and “lack of reasoning” is not seeing that.
What I don’t understand with the right to lifers is what they consider satisfactory punishment for a doctor who knowingly performs an abortion where it is illegal? loss of license? capital punishment? What of the 35 year old woman? My wife had an abortion when we were young. Best thing we ever did.
What shall the punishment be for doctors who perform abortions where it is illegal?
I’ve got no problem with faith, what I do have a problem with is using faith as a spiritual cover for smear attacks.

Saying that no one can prove the historical existence of Christ is pretty much an attack against Christianity, in my opinion. Then to add insult to injury, you have the gall to tsk-tsk those of us who express an opinion in a way you don’t feel is “Christian enough.” You’ve been quite vicious toward others on this site, and incredibly condescending toward people of faith, but you consider someone correcting your grammar a “smear attack?”
Am I to assume that in your world, you can insult people all day long, and you’re “square” because you DON’T use faith as a cover for your “smear attacks”? The “people of faith” on this site have been used as punching bags more times than we can count. It should come as no surprise when we decide that we feel we’ve had enough of it.
“My wife had an abortion when we were young. Best thing we ever did.
Posted by: michael veves at October 17, 2008 8:33 AM”
If that is the best thing you’ve done thus far in life, Michael, then I’m sorry for you.
killing your own child is the “best thing you ever did”? I agree with Kel, I feel sorry for you.
Michael, that you would consider you and your wife destroying your unborn child by having an abortionist go up into her vagina, use a dialator to stretch open her cervix, using a curette to dismember and torture your unborn child, (who has his or her own beating heart, his or her own unique DNA, possibly a different blood type and possibly the opposite sex of your wife), then having a suction cannula inserted into her uterus which was hooked up to a powerful, vaccuum and then having your unborn child sucked into a vacuum canister to be disposed of as medical waste, if that is the BEST thing you have ever done then you are indeed a sick, deviant person, a future Hitler or you are a liar. Prolifers, please don’t waste your valuable time because this is probably a PPite trying to disrupt this blog. Ignore the idiot.
Kel- Re your comment “Saying that no one can prove the historical existence of Christ is pretty much an attack against Christianity, in my opinion.”
Actually I mean no disrespect to decent christians. But Christianity is a faith, just as Islam is a faith. Each have some shread of truth to them but the essence of both cannot be proven. They rely on the faith of believers to sustain. the religion and the “truth” of the stories. All religion is based on part truth and part myth. It’s just a fact of mythology.
That statement nor this explanation is not to use your honest beliefs as a punching bag, but rather to more fully flesh out my own beliefs, which are as much my truth as your beliefs are yours.
Yo,
If the bones of the man Jesus Christ are ever found, pity us.
That was me.
I won’t pity people if the bones of Christ are found, I’ll be sad for them, because judging by the way people hold eachother in contempt in this community any conversion experience they may have had was more likely a product of their ego, and not of an indwelling of the Holy Spirit. When people in this community fail to have compassion for others, the compassion of Christ will ruin them. The cruelty within the Body of Christ is a cruelty to the Body of Christ. While people worry so much about being offended themselves, in the process of defending against such offense they demean the dignity of those they think they should oppose.
Yo,
What community are you referring to?
Carla. It should be obvious. I’ll let you think about that.
Kel – I’m sorry if I offended you, but rage, understandable or not is hardly acceptable conduct for mature conduct. If a two year old bites his playmate it is one thing, but a grown adult hurling insults about the choices of others, the sexuality of others… I mean, c’mon! Would you talk that same crap to your pastor? Would you talk that same crap to your priest? No. So don’t play it on other people of less dignified stature either. Jesus said to turn the other cheek, not turn around and talk about people behind their back. The first is humility, the second is baring false witness. You should know the difference.
If your cause is truly the right one, there is no need to demean the opposition. Or is your concept of Jesus one of someone so weak that He actually needs your help to settle scores? Your vindictiveness does not help the cause. It only spits on the Cross.
Just answer the question.
Carla – If you cannot see by the unhealthy rage in the comments here by those who claim to be pro-life and by those who claim to be Christian as detrimental to everything that either Christ or the Pro-life movement is trying to accomplish, then I’m sorry.
How can people talk to eachother when they have distorted those that they disagree with into the personification of evil? If someone is screaming at me like that I leave or simply laugh. People who make childish insults will be seen as immature. How this type of discourse advances your cause or makes Christ not seem like a fool is beyond me.
Yo, I think that people who have the need to do that “personification of evil” and those who go along with it, have some inner need to be “against some great evil,” and they will conjure one up at need.
So they end up with a construct, which may reflect reality to a point, or not at all, or anywhere in between – and meanwhile it’s not reflective of the truth.
Doug. You make good points. And it should be said that I’d much rather have ranting on a message board than people blowing up buildings or some other stunt. I can walk away and snicker about unreasonable language, but so far as I know no one here is applauding the killing of doctors or the blowing up of buildings. In some countries, and indeed on some message boards more extreme tactics are used. At least that modicum of decency is upheld here.
No doubt, Yo. There is at least that much consistency among the Pro-Lifers here (in general).
