Those risky toilet abortions
From Fox News today:
Peach County [GA] authorities say a newborn girl was found in the toilet of a jail cell.

According to Sheriff Terry Deese, 25-year-old Cornelia Kornegay of Roberta had the infant in a holding cell Wednesday morning and told jailers her baby was in the toilet.
Deese said deputies found the infant upside down submerged in water, but the toddler survived. He said jailers were unaware that Kornegay was pregnant.
Kornegay likely will face a charge of felony cruelty to children and other offenses. She was already being held at the facility for violating probation.
Deese said the infant, a 7 pound, 6-ounce girl was taken to a local hospital and was listed in good condition.
(“Toddler”?)
We see here simply an abortion gone awry. What is the difference between this and the April 2005 abortion at an Orlando abortion mill spotlighted in the movie 22Weeks?
There’s a more detailed story here. I hope the baby is ok and doesn’t suffer from lack of oxygen.

Kornegay was jailed Feb. 16 on a probation violation for a misdemeanor offense out of Crawford County, the sheriff said. She has one other child, Deese said.
I bet she violated her parole so she could “hide” the birth of her baby while in jail. This is pathetic. Maybe all obese women should be given mandatory pregnancy tests when they go to jail. This could have been avoided.
hmmm, how do these women go through labor without anyone knowing? I remember all three times I gave birth! And I’m pretty sure the labor and delivery staff remember me well too!
Sad to think this women felt so low to have done this to her baby.
Ms. Kornegay, I pray that one day you’ll be in a safe and happy life so you can fully understand that life is not a four letter word to be tossed around.
As bizarre as this may sound I must ask if this woman knew she was pregnant. Yes it does happen. There’s also situations where women are in such intense denial it will take the birth of a child to convince them.
There’s the other extreme of woman who are convinced they are pregnant when in fact they are not and will even show symptoms of pregnancy.
The human mind can do some very strange things.
Mary,
Strange things happen, but wouldn’t it make sense that a person who is sexually active AND obese would take a pregnancy test one in a while, just in case she is pregnant?
According to the full story (see link) she was keeping the pregnancy a secret from her parents.
If you read the linked story, you’ll see she complained of cramping. A nurse even examined her but didn’t discover the pregnancy.
I think this just goes to show that legal or not, some women will always abort. Really, really sad story though. As a journalist I find it interesting that in the story the infant is called a toddler as well. Bad journalism!! :)
Legal or not, born people will always kill other born people, AM. So……..?????
Wow, so true Jill. We are seeing women becoming a lot more animal-like about their babies, lacking natural maternal affection.
Now what us Christians have to get clear on is having a biblical answer to the question: “If abortion is abolished should mothers who seek out, pay for, & acquire the ‘services’ of a baby-killer be charged with murder?”
I do believe that the Bible clearly counts the aborting woman as guilty of the murder (perhaps MORE SO because the victim is
her own child & it is the most severe form of domestic violence) in addition to the ‘medical’ culprits. What say you?
Jill,
How often I saw women show up in the emergency room complaining of “cramping” only to have us tell them they were pregnant and in labor!
I’m confused. How is this an attempted abortion?
Janet,
Of course it would make sense, that’s why you don’t expect people to do it.
I knew a professional woman, well educated and intelligent with a history of gyn problems and erratic and absent periods. She was shocked to discover she was almost 6 months pregnant. This happened twice!
I still believe this young woman could have been in a state of denial, even though she knew she was pregnant, she may not have wanted to face up to or accept it, sort of wishing it away.
Its also possible what she thought was an urge to move her bowels was in fact the final push of labor.
I’ve just seen it too many times Janet. No it doesn’t make sense but the human mind all too often doesn’t.
AM 3:19PM
She didn’t abort. This was a full term delivery.
I believe there may well be more complex mental issues here.
Remember abortion is legal. Obviously it did nothing to prevent this.
Mary, right. The nurse obviously did not palpate the abdomen, which she should have done if checking cramps. Even if obese, a 9-month-pregnant mother’s uterus should have observable, particularly if tightening. Bad nurse.
“Kornegay likely will face a charge of felony cruelty to children and other offenses.”
well, I thinks it wrong she faces charges, the Mother’s choice was to dispose the baby. I think Obama may be right, if we start to charge these women, it’s just an attempt to restrict freedom of choice.
/sarcasm
I never thought I would consider it lucky to be born in a jail cell toilet, but this little one is lucky to have been born in a location where there were people to help her.
I hope she makes a full recovery.
This animal should be spayed.
Inmates don’t always cooperate with physical exams. Wonder if the nurse was really able to do a good eval on her. Or if she wanted to do a urine preg and Kornegay refused.
I really don’t understand what goes through someone’s head as they try to kill the baby they just gave birth to. If you clearly don’t want it, why not just put it up for adoption if you have no emotional attachment? And it’s even worse than there are safe haven laws, where you can anonymously leave your baby at a hospital, fire station etc and face NO charges, and people still do this.
Hey, at least she’s already in prison- that saves some time!
AM, or she could just yell out “Hey, I’m having a baby guys!”
You can bet she wouldn’t have had to take care of that child in a jail cell.
This is just a sad situation all around, for the mother and for that little baby girl. I wonder who is taking care of her other child that she has?!
Agreed with the statement of having her sterilized though, this woman clearly doesn’t need to be putting anymore babies lives on the line.
I hope this child gets adopted to a family that will love and care for her, this miracle baby truely deserves it!
Wait a second- isn’t suggesting sterilization preventing potential life? Like using birth control but permanently? I don’t know it just seems like choosing to sterilize someone because we don’t agree with what they do (that’s putting it lightly- we all are disgusted by and abhor what she did) seem a little bit like selective breeding? Just a philosophical thought there.
She is clearly mentally ill and once treated and rehabbed she could very well be a wonderful mother. Sterilization is just…yikes. If God chooses who becomes a parent why should we intervene?
The baby was submerged in the jail cell toilet?
*Lord God, please ~ somehow protect that dear little child from AIDS and whatever other vile elements were in that horrible place for a newborn to fall.*
*…In the name of Jesus I ask this, Amen.*
You can’t get AIDS from a toilet. The only way this infant could have been infected is from her mother, but it never said she’s HIV positive. I understand the sentiment, just wanted to maybe teach a lesson since I’m an AIDS educator!
AM, I think of ‘sterilization’ just like a period. Should a pro-life woman feel bad at her self because she gets her period every month but did not to fertilize that egg? NO
So a woman who gets sterilized shouldn’t feel bad about it either in my eyes.
Jill, correct me if I’m wrong.
If a woman has a period it’s because a fertilized egg didn’t implant. Not because someone physically took away her ability to conceive.
My tubes getting tied were voluntary by me and my husband agreed also. Does that make me less pro-life? No, it doesn’t AM.
I woman isn’t less pro-life is she opts for this procedure. It isn’t like I’m aborting the rest of my eggs. My egg’s don’t need to be fertilized in my mind, I have enough children to raise. While I praise those women who can have a lot of kids (I wish I could have more but I know this wouldn’t be fair to me or my other children.
I see what you’re saying, but you said your tubal ligation was voluntary. Sterilizing this woman would be wrong if she didn’t want it.
But the point is moot as she’s in jail for a veeeery long time and will not be having sex anytime soon!
I never tried to make the argument that choosing not to have more kids is less pro-life. I’m very much about choosing size of the family you want. My only concern was forced sterilization to prevent her having more babies, which seems like selective breeding.
Maybe not forced tubals but can the county jail at least offer her some couseling on this matter? I sure hope they are. Maybe they can ask her what she is doing to prevent pregnancy if she IS going to be having sex, if she says nothing then maybe they could just suggest it to her in a neutral manner and see what she thinks.
Just an idea that I’m sure wouldn’t ever happen.
*I was in no way saying forced sterilization should be done, it is just an outrage that these women go to such great lengths to cover up a pregnancy. Maybe she could do something more permanent to prevent pregnancy*
I think counseling is always a good thing in these matters. She is clearly mentally ill. But mental illness is curable, which is great!!
If she ever gets out of jail I too hope they send her away with an IUD or Depo- something that’s very hard to mess up!!
But considering I think she’ll be charged with attempted murder, if she ever sees the light of day again she’ll be menopausal. One hopes!
AM,
Depending on the mental illness, it is treatable, not curable. Something like diabetes.
Also, some mental illnesses may not so easily respond to treatment or medication. There are so many factors, including patient compliance.
We saw what happened when Andrea and Rusty Yates took matters into their own hands by deciding to have another baby against medical advice and took Andrea off her psychiatric medications.
So AM, you’re saying AIDS bacteria (or whatever) cannot live in toilet water?
You may be an AIDS educator but that doesn’t mean I believe you. (No offense; I have no idea who you are or what you really know.) Either way, toilet water — jail cell toilet or otherwise — is full of disgusting organisms no newborn needs to ingest. Reprehensible and unthinkable.
Actually toilet water is quite clean. If you think about it, it gets flushed and replenished regularily, from the some sources as tap water. Toilets themselves are not clean, but the water itself is pretty clean.
The HIV/AIDS virus is transmitted whenever infected blood, semen, vaginal fluid and/or breast milk enters another’s body through any type of opening.
The most common routes are through unprotected anal, vaginal and oral sex; through sharing needles for drug injection; and from mother to child.
Sitting on a toilet, or in this case, falling into a toilet as a baby, is not going to get you infected with AIDS.
As a a person with HIV I’d just like to say that HIV or AIDS can be contracted from a toilet, if that toilet was full of the above mentioned bodily fluids and they fluids were still warm, meaning extremely fresh, and there was no form of freash water replenishment, and the toilet was a living being that also had HIV/AIDS….. Was my complete and utter distaste for the belief of “getting HIV from a toilet” get conveyed correctly there?
Haha IWillSurvive, for a second there I thought you were being serious and I thought I had seriously effed up in my research and everything everyone had ever told me about contracting HIV/AIDS was a lie. Then I realized you were kidding and it made me laugh. I hate how hard sarcasm is to convey over the internet!
I am not laughing however at you having HIV/AIDS. So unfortunate :-(
anon, Iwillsurvive,
you are the same person? no?
Anon, from Canada, please use a name.
Thanks.
I’m anonymous…I’m going to go by Talula here.
And no, I’m not the same person as IWillSurvive.
