Jivin J’s Life Links 3-12-09

This is good news, to be sure. But let’s be clear: There is NO “medical ethical quandary” involved in the decade-long dispute over stem cells. There is only the appearance of an ethical quandary, created by people who either don’t understand or willfully misrepresent the facts.
Claiming that opponents of embryonic stem cell research are the ones who are “willfully misrepresenting the facts” is rich coming from Kinsley who on a number of occasions has falsely claimed that Bush‘s policy on the federal funding of ESCR banned “almost all federal financing of embryonic-stem-cell research” and was a “near-ban on stem-cell research.”…
In the recent post Kinsley labels Bush’s funding policy a “ban on federally funded stem-cell research.”
I think it’s quite clear who is willfully misrepresenting the facts.
…Sir Richard [Gardner], an advisor to Britain‘s fertility watchdog and the Royal Society, said he was surprised the possibility had not been considered, and that experiments in mice have shown that fetal kidneys grow extremely quickly when transplanted to adult animals.
Sir Richard said: ‘It is probably a more realistic technique in dealing with the shortage of kidney donors than others.’
Taxpayers will now likely fund not only the use of “spare” embryos from in vitro fertilization, but also human lives produced and ended for the sole purpose of scientific exploitation. Biotechnicians have been freed from the vulgar moralism of the masses, so they can operate according to the vulgar utilitarianism of their own social clique — the belief that some human lives can be planted, plucked and processed for the benefit of others.
It is the incurable itch of pro-choice activists to compel everyone’s complicity in their agenda. Somehow getting “politics out of science” translates into taxpayer funding for embryo experimentation. “Choice” becomes a demand on doctors and nurses to violate their deepest beliefs or face discrimination.

“…willfully misrepresent the facts.”
This phrase has lost any and all meaning. I would love to see what facts he has in mind which we are misrepresenting. Reading his article, I see his best argument commits the naturalistic fallacy. Gee, haven’t seen that one before…
Especially when you consider the garbage-laden nonsense that was President Obama’s defense of lifting “the ban” on ESCR which contained phrase after phrase after phrase of catch phrases and soundbites including ” promoting science … is also about protecting free and open inquiry” and “we make scientific decisions based on facts, not ideology”, it’s clear that people are just throwing cool-sounding phrases out there which are based on nothing but the cool-sounding-ness of them. Promoting ESCR based on science and not ideology? Science says that the embryo is a human being! It is YOUR ideology that says that the answer science gives isn’t good enough to determine who counts and who doesn’t; so you need to come up with personhood theories which go BEYOND science, essentially saying science doesn’t give a good enough answer but your personhood theories do.
We are a soundbite culture. Very frustrating.
Bobby: “We are a soundbite culture. Very frustrating.”
But…my body, my right? How can you CHOOSE for someone else Bobby???
You mean I’m taking away the right to choose to be influenced by the latest soundbites? Man, I WISH I could choose that for everyone! :)
Spoken like a typical Conservative ;)
They are calling to reuse parts from aborted babies in Great Britain? Besides the obvious immoral and “eewww” factor, do they forget their history when there was a need for cadavers of people who “died” naturally for medical schools? They had to stop because people were being murdered?
We are a soundbite culture. Very frustrating.

Yes, and the more the lies and soundbites are repeated by the talking heads, the more the public begins to believe them. Or at least regurgitate them, without even considering their meaning.
Logic can stare people right in the face, but brainwashing is a very powerful (and subtle) thing.
What’s immoral about using organs from aborted fetuses to save lives? I don’t see how it’s any different than using organs from car crashes or suicides.
Well Reality, given your POV, I agree with you. If the fetus is a non-person or however you think of it, if it isn’t what we are, then there is nothing wrong with using pieces of it to help persons.

Reminds me of a recent news story on how a 12 yr old pundit defined the 4 principles of Conservatism to the CPAC convention:
“..respect for the constitution, respect for life, less government, and personal responsibility….”
(To see the Youtube video of Krohn’s address to CPAC, go to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vz1TVpwme0)
–oops that should’ve read 14 yr old…my mistake!
You wrote: “[Kinsley] falsely claimed that Bush’s policy on the federal funding of ESCR banned “almost all federal financing of embryonic-stem-cell research” and was a “near-ban on stem-cell research.”…
Both these claims are true.
reality: “What’s immoral about using organs from aborted fetuses to save lives? I don’t see how it’s any different than using organs from car crashes or suicides.”
The car-crash victim died in an ACCIDENT and the suicide victim died by his/her CHOICE. The aborted fetus was killed intentionally by another person.
Reality and Bobby,
If the fetus is a non-person, how can its tissue be transplanted into humans?
I haven’t heard of human’s being transplanted with monkey hearts or nervous tissue from dolphins.
” Reality and Bobby, If the fetus is a non-person, how can its tissue be transplanted into humans? I haven’t heard of human’s being transplanted with monkey hearts or nervous tissue from dolphins. ”
Hey, don’t look at me! If the fetus is not a person, then you can implant non-human person organs into a human person. 0=1. Start with a false assumption and you can prove anything :)
Did you guys see the OR notice that a woman was just transported by ambulence from Tiller’s clinic?
There was a sheet over her body, but it’s unclear if that was because she had died, or simply for privacy.
http://www.operationrescue.org
has more info.
Praying for that woman, and for Tiller’s killing shack to be shut down!
How many women Lauren do you think it will take before they shut it down??!!
I don’t know, Carla.
I’m just praying he goes to jail for a long time over his current charges relating to his lack of a second doctor unaffiliated with him. He could get up to 19 years! Of course, the Kansas court system is so corrupt and in his pocket…
I’m just praying for this woman. It breaks my heart thinking that she might have died while sinning so greatly before she had time to repent.

Makes as much sense as government bureaucrats ‘commandeering’ any availbable uterus, not alreadty occupied to shelter homeless human embryos/fetuses.
yor bro ken
“Obama is the master at this.”
He really is, Jasper. I wish it were not so but… there it is.
Hard to believe there’s a bigger moron than reality here, but now we have a zombie who thinks that repeating a lie makes it true.
