American Idol to debut pro-life ad tonight
From CatholicVote.org:
We are pleased to announce that our latest commercial – Imagine Spot 2 – will begin airing tonight on the American Idol finale. We have secured ad space in select markets in 6 states, beginning tonight in Baltimore.
Our ad will also be running tomorrow night during the 2nd night of the finale in select markets in NC, PA, WI, NV and FL.
Here’s that great ad once again:

WOW!!!! LOVE IT!
At work, I’m unable to view the video, itself, until I’m home tonight. Can someone please describe the gist of the commercial? It’s message? I see Nelson Mandela. What does he have to do with the pro-life cause in America?
I appreciate it.
Jamie, it’s a list of various adopted people who have made great contributions to society. It’s a truly beautiful message, and I have hope that it may even get some families to consider adoption.
6,000 babies were murdered since Obama’s Notre Damn Millstone Award and what do we pro-lifers do, we celebrate a “life” commercial on American Idol and call this progress.
We are one screwed and deceived country when the only benefit garnered from these types of things is to assuage our guilt for not doing what’s really necessary due to our utter impotence…..our lukewarmness for which the Lord will vomit us out of His mouth for.
As pro-aborts don’t want to be inconvenienced with children, we pro-lifers too really don’t want to be inconvenienced with what it would really take to end abortion unless partially doing so results in strokes to our ego, the padding of our pockets, or we gain a sense of celebrity and fame we otherwise would have never realized.
We must admit to ourselves how freaking powerless we have been rendered in the most important battle of the millenia.
Both pro-abort and pro-life leaders know this and we sheep accept their compromise. And freaks like Hal come on this site playing with your heads while he get his jollies off.
If two years olds were dying at the rate of 3,000 a day or a million a year, this country would do WHATEVER it took to end the slaughter. Why is this not happening with abortion? Our lack of proper response to abortion actually empowers the pro-aborts like Hal and Bystander and Reality because they know we are really not committed. If we really wanted to end abortion, our tactics would be totally different and people like this WOULD get the message.
If my team’s record was 50,000,000 losses and 0 wins, you’d bet I’d be firing the coaches and the players or, I’d close the doors.
Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk
Fritter, twitter, chimpanzee
How’s my hairdo,
Don’t inconvenience me.
And we stand around playing house and church while innocent children are being torn apart.
Totally awesome. I’m all shivers.
Twice as many babies have been murdred since Sunday than on 9/11 and we went to war for 9/11.
Does Nelson Mandela know you’re selling him up a river for your cause? The comparison between a woman’s choice and mandela is jarring… because it’s a connection that only schizophrenic off their meds would make.
A woman’s choice to what, YLT? Oh, that’s right…to kill her child.
Wonderful…very powerful. And kudos for getting such a great ad spot!!!
HisMan,
So what do you suggest we do? Abortions have been legal for almost 40 years now. You are extremely judgemental towards believers.
I think as Christians we need to pray daily for more hearts to be changed and for us to elect leaders who will put an end to abortion.
We also need to donate our time and money as much as possible to pregnancy care centers which are there to save babies and to help pregnant moms. And we need to get our churches more involved.
And I agree with others this is a wonderful video.
re: Lauren at May 19, 2009 8:09 PM
there is nothing wrong with aborting a fetus. It’s not a child. it lives inside the woman. a woman can have her second kidney removed if she wants, why not her fetus? Like having two kidneys – a fetus serves no necessary purpose.
Yo la, it’s a child that lives inside a woman. It is a unique, human being that happens to reside within its mother. A kidney is a part of the woman, her child is not.
That had to have been the weakest argument I’ve ever heard. Try again.
“Like having two kidneys – a fetus serves no necessary purpose. ”
I’m going to go ahead and respond to the less obvious thing to respond to, and say that just because we haven’t figured out the purpose of having two kidneys doesn’t mean it has none. In fact, isn’t this the “fallacy” that ID proponents are always being accused of? “We haven’t figured out how it works, so it must be created by an intelligent designer!” It’s a hasty conclusion to jump to that having two kidneys serves no purpose.
His Man, I understand your frustration. Heck, tune in to Nancy Grace sometime. We now have another tot mom killer. We can also thank abortion for cheapening life. What will become of Casey Anthony? Will she skate on probation? How about Stacey Barker, the woman who claimed that a man knocked her out, kidnapped her 18 month old, and the baby was found dead {sure that’s what happened}……….The message that abortion has sent this nation is, “If you don’t want it, kill it.” I give my time in front of 2 abortion clinics. Some women turn back. I donate to My local RTL. I’m out of ideas.
Amy Grossberg tossed her newborn baby into a dumpster on a bone-chilling November night, after hiding her pregnancy from her parents and her classmates for 9 months. Her boyfriend helped her deliver the baby boy, grabbed a garbage bag, and tossed the baby into a nearby dumpster in a motel parking lot. Amy served only 2 years for this crime. Her boyfriend served a year and 1/2. What a great message this is sending to teens in America!
We had infanticide mom, Jessica Coleman in my city. Oprah invited the little darling on her show via satellite. Jessica had her boyfriend stand on her stomach every morning, so that she could fit into her school clothes. When the baby boy was born in her bedroom, Jessica stabbed him to death and hid him in the closet. She went and ate dinner with her parents. Her boyfriend then came over with a duffle bag, and together they threw the baby’s body into a quarry.
PCers, Once again…Care to explain why we keep hearing more and more stories like these? I thought legalized abortion on demand was the key!
Heather…… why was that monster on Oprah? Surely even a liberal like Oprah did not have sympathy for her? That is heinous!
Joanne, let me see if I can get you that info.
ELYRIA — Twenty-two-year-old Jessica Coleman wept this morning as a judge sentenced her to six years in prison for the death of her newborn son six years ago.
The infant was stabbed and his body was dumped in a watery quarry.
Lorain County Common Pleas Judge Edward Zaleski sentenced Coleman, who was convicted on seven charges, including involuntary manslaughter. Coleman wept quietly as the judge sentenced her. She could have gotten up to 24 years.
The judge sentenced 25-year-old Thomas Truelson Jr. to two years for gross abuse of a corpse and two other charges.
Coleman was 15 and a Columbia High School sophomore when she gave birth in 1999 after concealing the pregnancy from family and friends.

Jessica Coleman on Oprah.
My wife told me about the Oprah show today regarding a woman who is now serving jail time for the murder of her baby when she was 15. In short, her story goes as follows. When Jessica was 15, she became pregnant but hid the pregnancy. After giving birth to the baby in the upstairs bathroom of her house she put the baby in the closet. After eating dinner she went back upstairs and stabbed the baby because she thought he might be in pain and wanted to put an end to that pain. Her boyfriend and she decided to put the baby in a bag and throw him in a quarry. The baby was found six months later but they didn’t know she did it. After a while evidence came out that led to her arrest and conviction. She is now serving a six year sentence for the murder of her baby. People who watched Oprah are outraged by the leniency of this sentence but I take a different look at it.
We live in a society that, for the past 30 years or so, does not care about unborn life. We teach our kids that they should do whatever feels good. Sex is something they are going to have so be safe. There is no such thing as absolute right or wrong. Life does not begin at conception but when the mother decides she wants that blob of tissue thus turning from a lifeless mass to a precious baby.
The family has no value anymore because we have destroyed the sanctity of marriage. These kids are being raised with no values and no structure. I do not know about the specifics of Jessica Coleman but she has grown up in this society. While I personally believe that what she did is heinous and mind blowing, I look at it from the lens of the Bible where life is sacred. Our society does not value life and has made abortion legal up to almost any point before birth if the mother’s health, including mental and emotional health, is “in danger”. There are many people in this country who see no problem with delivering a “fetus” feet first to the neck, shoving a scissors into the base of “its” skull, and sucking out “its” brain before pulling “it” all the way out. This is not murder because a doctor at an abortion clinic did the “procedure”.
Why is what Jessica did any worse? I don’t really see the difference. She didn’t want this baby. He would have been a burden on her. This was a time in her life when raising a child would have been hard and maybe even an embarrassment. She was the mother and it was her body so she had the right to do with her body as she pleased. Sure she could have had an abortion but maybe she was scared. She could have done many things but she made a choice, and I thought being “pro-choice” was what we were teaching our kids. Fifteen year olds do not have a propensity for making wise choices but she made a choice nonetheless. Instead of having an abortion doctor suck out her baby for her, she delivered her baby, shoved him into a duffel bag and tossed him into a quarry.
According to the intent of our law, why should she be judged for murdering a part of her own body, a lifeless and unwanted fetus? Aren’t young girls told that life begins when the mother decides? That there isn’t such thing as right or wrong, only what you determine is right or wrong for yourself?
Just to reiterate, what Jessica did was terrible and was murder but that is looking at it from a Biblical perspective. What matters here is American law because once again, I see incredible inconsistencies and hypocrisies. A fetus is a baby if a mother gets shot while pregnant but not if she willingly sucks it out in a clinic. A fetus is a baby when a woman wants him/her and a doctor must remove him/her via c-section but not if she secretly delivers in a bathroom and throw him/her into a quarry. Our society is so screwed up and I have tremendous sympathy for this woman.
I read the message board on oprah.com and so many people expressed outrage towards Jessica and claimed that they have no sympathy for her. I would love to hear their position on abortion. It wouldn’t shock me if they were “pro-choice”. The difference here is that the baby was put into a duffel bag and thrown into a quarry rather than tossed into a red biohazzard bag like the aborted babies.
What is the right thing to do to Jessica? Should she have received a stiffer penalty? I really don’t know. You would have a hard time convincing me that what she did was any worse than what happens on a daily basis in this country. I honestly cannot say what the appropriate punishment for Jessica is. Our country is so messed up on this issue that nothing makes sense anymore.
I teach fifteen year olds and they make stupid decision all the time when left to themselves. The fact that they are lied to every day of their lives by television, movies, music, teachers, parents, and politicians does not help their already poor decision making. Where is Oprah’s outrage with the liberal politicians and judges who have made abortion legal? Where is Oprah’s outrage with actors and actresses who promote sex and abortion on screen? Where is Oprah’s outrage with musicians who glorify promiscuity through their music.
I believe in personal responsibility as strongly as anyone, but I have to have sympathy and compassion for anyone in Jessica’s situation because of the mess our country is in and the lies they hear. If a fetus is granted the choice of life, I pray that they meet our Loving Lord and Savior as early as possible, otherwise there will be many more stories like Jessica’s appearing on the Oprah show.

I watched it. Oprah did all of the “motherly” taqlking to Jessica. Jessica wept throughout most of it. The usual “I was scared.” “I didn’t know what to do.” Oprah pitched a lot of the softball questions. Don’t forget, Oprah is a huge Obama supporter, so I’m betting she’s pro abortion.
Amy Grossberg (born 1978) delivered a baby at a Comfort Inn in Newark, Delaware, on November 1996, assisted only by her then-boyfriend Brian Peterson, who later threw the baby into a dumpster. In March 1998, Peterson pled guilty to manslaughter and served a two-year sentence; on April 22, 1998, Grossberg agreed to a plea bargain, and was sentenced to a two-and-a-half years in prison on July 9, 1998.
Grossberg and Peterson dated while at Ramapo High School, growing up in the affluent suburb of Wyckoff, New Jersey. Amy successfully hid the pregnancy from her parents, particularly Grossberg’s mother, who was the person Amy most wanted to shield it from. Grossberg wore baggy clothes and avoided her parents for the course of the nine months.
In November 1996, the eighteen-year-old’s water broke. She and Peterson checked into the Comfort Inn and delivered the unnamed child on November 12. Conflicting stories have made the subsequent events a mystery to anyone except the couple, but Peterson and Grossberg claim they believed the infant to be stillborn, wrapped him in a garbage bag, and disposed of him in a dumpster.
The bloody sheets were discovered by a cleaning woman, who immediately contacted police. K-9 Police dogs found the body in the dumpster. Upon returning to school, Grossberg began to have severe seizures as a result of not having expelled the placenta. She was taken to a hospital, and it was clear to the doctors that she had just given birth. Not long after, police officials and the hospital put the two incidents together.
The couple’s initial claim that the child was stillborn was quickly shot down. An autopsy proved that the infant was delivered alive and that the cause of death was several head fractures and Shaken Baby Syndrome. The cause of the injuries was inconclusive. Peterson and Grossberg, who at first seemed to remain a loving couple, quickly turned on each other and began the finger pointing. In December 1996 they were indicted for the murder. Peterson stated emphatically that Grossberg told him to “get rid of it!”; Grossberg claimed that Peterson acted alone in putting the boy into the dumpster.
In March 1998, Peterson pled guilty to manslaughter in exchange for his testimony against Grossberg at her trial. Other than his initial claims, he also stated that he tried to get her to a hospital, but she refused. When Grossberg heard Peterson’s statement in detail, she agreed to a plea bargain on April 22, 1998. She admitted to unintentionally causing the death of the infant and said that she and Peterson never planned to kill the baby. A concern of attorneys for both defendants regarding going to trial would be that the pictures of the baby’s head (it was noted on Court TV that such pictures could not be shown on television) would be displayed in court and lead to more severe penalties.
While Peterson was sentenced to two years, Grossberg was held to be more responsible and was sentenced to two-and-a-half years.
Not all forensic pathologists agree with the fact that the baby was born alive, some feel that infant was likely stillborn or drew breath once or twice before dying. Bruising to a baby’s head can also occur during birth, particularly if the mother is young, it’s her first child, and the mother has a small pelvis. The Grossberg baby also had congenital abnormalities, increasing the likelihood of stillbirth.
Heather…… why was that monster on Oprah? Surely even a liberal like Oprah did not have sympathy for her? That is heinous!

Yes, YLT, as you observed, the fetus lives. Your comment brings to mind the stinging remarks you directed toward Ken about his song here. You chastised him for the “stunning disconnect” between his faith and his words. You said, “Remember man, jesus sits at the right hand of the father, the rest of us are lucky to be sitting at his feet, myself, and yourself included.” If we are lucky to be sitting at the Lord’s feet, doesn’t that really mean we got there because of his mercy toward us? What does it say about us if we accept mercy but refuse to show it to others?
I am not trying to pick an argument with you. I ask you this to try to understand you. Where’s the “connect” between the faith you professed on the other thread and the statement that a living human serves no necessary purpose? Didn’t the Lord tell us something about the “least” among us? If the unborn don’t meet that definition, I’m not sure who does. Who do you consider the least of the Lord’s brethren?
PS-Ken, please don’t construe my reference to the other thread as agreement with YLT’s comments to you there.
I just did a project on Nelson Mandela! Such a courageous man! A fine human being who can teach us all about standing strong even when standing alone. :D
Someone told me that American Idol donates to PP. I haven’t checked this out yet, but I hope it’s not true. This is a good add indeed, but it’s unfortunate that Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and Jamie Foxx are all Obama supporters:[
FRONT ROYAL, Va., March 10 /Christian Newswire/ — Once again, “American Idol” is aligning itself with pro-abortion Save the Children and UNICEF. On March 8, 2007, “American Idol” unveiled its “Idol Gives Back” project, the stated goal of which was to “raise awareness of the effects of poverty on children and young people.” Last year, the project generated more than $75 million.
The second Idol Gives Back program will air on April 9, 2008. Like last year, several celebrities will appear on the show to urge Americans to make a donation.
“For years UNICEF spokesmen denied promoting contraception or abortion,” wrote Winifride Prestwich in UNICEF: Guilty As Charged. She said records prove that “step by step over a 30-year period UNICEF has tied itself to the population controllers and to the anti- life, anti-family attitudes of such organizations as the International Planned Parenthood Federation.”
A study released by the International Organizations Research Group (IORG) documented UNICEF’s ties to abortion and radical feminism. UNICEF: Women or Children First? showed that UNICEF has helped write many documents that call for increased access to abortion and the legalization of the deadly act worldwide.
IORG discovered that UNICEF has funded a program run by the militantly pro-abortion Population Council, which holds the U.S. patent for the abortion pill, RU- 486. UNICEF has also supported a South African group that targets adolescents with a pro-abortion message.
It is now official UNICEF policy to “Promote and expand access to sexual and reproductive health services, including access to condoms,” the IORG report stated. A high-ranking UNICEF official even called for his group to “make condoms available and accessible for everybody, everywhere and at all times. Abstinence is simply not a realistic option for most young people in the world today.”
The evidence that UNICEF has actively promoted the Culture of Death is overwhelming and indisputable:
Heather,
Thanks for posting all that on Jessica. I have to saying knowing the whole story now that Brent made some valid points, especially about the hypocrisy of so many people. As he said, a lot of those outraged people are probably pro abortion.
Since she is so young I’m not really sure what the answer should be for her either. I think it goes without saying her life is probably ruined now. Who knows how she will turn out. Unlikely it will be good.
Joanne, that’s true. I pulled Brett’s article b/c it was so truthful. Like Brett says :If a woman decides she can do whatever she wants with something that comes from her body, then what if her teenager ticks her off? Can she whip out the gun and shoot? What if the 2 year old spills milk? Again, should she be able to murder him/her? It’s just so sick, twisted and evil!
RE; the adoption piece. Imagine if all of these great talents had been aborted.
I just did a project on Nelson Mandela! Such a courageous man! A fine human being who can teach us all about standing strong even when standing alone. :D

Did you read why he was in prison?
Have you researched the conditions in South Africa since the ANC has taken over?
Isn’t it interesting that blacks from Africa wanted out of their countries and into racist South Africa?
I didn’t realize they were all adopted. That was a pretty great ad, any preferences for Idol tonight?
F.U – by lives I do not mean “alive”. my remote control lives on top of my tv when not in use. Does this mean that my remote control is alive? Clearly you have not mastered basic american idioms.
The fetus isn’t alive in the womb? C’mon, YLT, you can do better :)
No, YLT won’t do better. He’s been saying this for a long time, even though Bobby keeps posting statements by scientists, and other pro-lifers like you take turns correcting him. He’s like the Un-man in C.S. Lewis’s Perelandra, endlessly repeating Ransom’s name in an attempt to wear him down, demonstrating that in the end evil is not so much clever or reasoned as mean and cruel. If you repeat a lie often enough, people will start to believe it (though not on this site, I dare say).
Actually, YLT would be much harder to deal with if like Danielle he would say that the pre-born human being was not a person. With that assertion, we must move from the field of biology to the field of philosophy.
Jon – by definition if something is pre-born it is not alive. It’s not born = its not alive. I will never concede that point. Your supposed scientists are nothing more than political hacks in lab coats.
Yes, speaking of which, here is the science that you are completely ignoring YLT.
Seriously YLT, NEVER accuse a creationist or someone who believes in a young earth of being anti-scientific again because they actually use what they consider to be sound science to refute claims of an old earth and evolution, yet you have NEVER provided any such counter-science. All you have done is punted to semantics “by definition, pre-born =not alive” which is totally absurd. I’d love to see even one dictionary definition defining pre-born as not alive. But you won’t give that, nor will you attempt to give any counter scientific arguments. Continue to live in your anti-scientific, 17th century world.
“Almost all higher animals start their lives from a single cell, the fertilized ovum (zygote). … The time of fertilization represents the starting point in the life history, or ontogeny, of the individual.” (Carlson, Bruce M., Patten’s Foundations of Embryology, 6th edition. New York: McGraw-Hill, 1996, p.3.)
“The development of a human being begins with fertilization, a process by which two highly specialized cells, the spermatozoon from the male and the oocyte from the female, unite to give rise to a new organism, the zygote.” [Langman, Jan. Medical Embryology. 3rd edition. Baltimore: Williams and Wilkins, 1975, p. 3]
“Zygote. This cell, formed by the union of an ovum and a sperm (Gr. zygtos, yoked together), represents the beginning of a human being.” [Moore, Keith L. and Persaud, T.V.N. Before We Are Born: Essentials of Embryology and Birth Defects. 4th edition. Philadelphia: W.B. Saunders Company, 1993, p. 1]
“Although human life is a continuous process, fertilization is a critical landmark because, under ordinary circumstances, a new, genetically distinct human organism is thereby formed. … The combination of 23 chromosomes present in each pronucleus results in 46 chromosomes in the zygote. Thus the diploid number is restored and the embryonic genome is formed. The embryo now exists as a genetic unity.” (O’Rahilly, Ronan and Müller, Fabiola. Human Embryology and Teratology, 2nd edition. New York: Wiley-Liss, 1996, pp. 8, 29).
“the term conception refers to the union of the male and female pronuclear elements of procreation from which a new living being develops. It is synonymous with the terms fecundation, impregnation and fertilization … The zygote thus formed represents the beginning of a new life.” (J.P. Greenhill and E.A. Freidman. Biological Principles and Modern Practice of Obstetrics. Philadelphia: W.B. Saunders Publishers, pages 17 and 23.)
“Fertilization is a sequence of events that begins with the contact of a sperm (spermatozoon) with a secondary oocyte (ovum) and ends with the fusion of their pronuclei (the haploid nuclei of the sperm and ovum) and the mingling of their chromosomes to form a new cell. This fertilized ovum, known as a zygote, is a large diploid cell that is the beginning, or primordium, of a human being.” [Moore, Keith L. Essentials of Human Embryology. Toronto: B.C. Decker Inc, 1988, p.2]
“Embryo: An organism in the earliest stage of development; in a man, from the time of conception to the end of the second month in the uterus.” (Dox, Ida G. et al. The Harper Collins Illustrated Medical Dictionary. New York: Harper Perennial, 1993, p. 146.
“every time a sperm cell and ovum unite, a new being is created which is alive and will continue to live unless its death is brought about by some specific condition.” (E.L. Potter, M.D., and J.M. Craig, M.D. Pathology of the Fetus and the Infant (3rd Edition). Chicago: Year Book Medical Publishers, 1975, page vii.)
“Embryo: The developing individual between the union of the germ cells and the completion of the organs which characterize its body when it becomes a separate organism…. At the moment the sperm cell of the human male meets the ovum of the female and the union results in a fertilized ovum (zygote), a new life has begun…. The term embryo covers the several stages of early development from conception to the ninth or tenth week of life.” [Considine, Douglas (ed.). Van Nostrand’s Scientific Encyclopedia. 5th edition. New York: Van Nostrand Reinhold Company, 1976, p. 943]

Ummm… “Young Earth Creationism” and science are like oil and water. Once you take out the idea that a “creator” necessarily directly created the world the whole thing falls apart. Furthermore, people that need proof to puff-up their faith claims have in fact very little faith. Faith is not a contest to see how many other people you can covert, but rather it should be a relationship between the believer and the Divine. People who have something to prove just seem insecure.
