Americans United for Life has published what it considers the short list of Barack Obama’s prospective Supreme Court nominees to replace retiring David Souter.
Not on its short list but on its “other potential nominees” list is MI Gov. Jennifer Granholm.
granholm obama.jpgThe Associated Press just reported:

… Granholm… will be at the White House on Tuesday.
An administration official says the Democratic governor is coming… for an event unrelated to the Supreme Court. It is not clear whether Granholm will be meeting with Obama about the upcoming vacancy on the court….

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because details of Tuesday’s event have not been announced.
Granholm is among more than 6 people Obama is considering for the seat….
The 50-year-old Granholm is a former federal prosecutor and MI attorney general.

The Committee for Justice blog reported this morning:

CFJ has learned from a reliable source that… Granholm, reportedly on President Obama’s Supreme Court short list, boarded a flight from Detroit to… DC last night.
If Granholm is coming to DC for an announcement of her nomination to the Court, we’ll know as soon as this morning. If she’s coming to DC to interview for the job, it serves as confirmation that she is on the short list. In either case, it’s worth taking a look at her record, including the scandals that have plagued her.

CFJ itemizes allegations for corruption as well as “… her veto of state legislation banning partial-birth abortion. The language of the bill she vetoed mirrored the federal ban on partial-birth abortion, which was upheld by the US Supreme Court.”
A citizen petition overrode Sebelius’ veto, thank goodness, but that is really all one needs to know to determine how bad she is on abortion.
In fact this Catholic is an unapologetic abortion and anti-life advocate. Yet here’s a 2006 campaign ad published in 3 Catholic newspapers. Click to enlarge…

Granholm was out front on the human embryo experimentation referendum last year that passed by a heart-breaking 52.6%. For that she helped the other side raise money, even sending personal emails soliciting donations.
Granholm also vetoed a bill to end rubber stamp practices with parental consent in the courts – sponsored by a fellow Wayne Co., albeit pro-life, Democrat.
Granholm has also increased funding to Planned Parenthood and is a poster girl for the pro-abortion group EMILY’s List, which raised her huge amounts of campaign cash.
One MI insider I spoke with doesn’t think Granholm will make the final SC cut but expects Obama to appoint her to a federal court position. She is term-limited as governor next year; has only 18 months left on this job.
But I thought Kathleen Sebelius was too radioactive for Obama to nominate as DHHS secretary either, so who knows? Granholm is definitely a Sebelius II.
