New Stanek WND column, “Late-term abortion endangered? Hardly”

It is falsely claimed George Tiller was one of only 3 late-term abortionists in the US, for instance, in the New York Times:
Some described Dr. Tiller as one of about only 3 doctors in the country who had, under certain circumstances, provided abortions to women in their 3rd trimester of pregnancy, and said his death would mean that women, particularly in the central US, would have few if any options in such cases.
Apparently, it was Tiller himself who started it. According to The Guardian:
Tiller testified … that he owns 1 of only 3 clinics in the US that perform late-term abortions, which are performed on foetuses that could survive outside the mother’s womb….
Actually, the delusion grows grander. According to the Los Angeles Times:
But Warren Hern, a CO physician and close friend of Tiller… said he was now “the only doctor in the world” who performed very late-term abortions….
Well, no. The fact is 2nd and 3rd trimester abortions are committed rampantly in hospitals and abortion clinics across the country on a daily basis….
Of the 40 states reporting to the CDC in 2005, 32 reported abortions of babies 21 weeks or older.
So if it were true only 3 doctors nationwide committed them, they did a lot of flying. KS, where Tiller practiced, accounted for “only” 459 of 8,482 late-term abortions reported to the CDC that year….

Several clinics in my area advertise abortions after 21 weeks.
Mine too.
Reguardless what type of abortion it is, it is still murder!
Why then were women coming to Tiller’s clinic from across the USA and Canada?
Lauren, 11:09am
I’m aghast! The clinics advertise and make their names and locations known to anyone that wants to know? You mean this is not all a PL plot after all?
Joanne:
Press coverage.
More doctors knew him, more doctors referred him. More women knew him, more considered him.
Plain and simple.
* thousands of women die as a result of illegal “back alley” abortions it is asserted pre Roe
* women must resort to using “coat hangers” to abort themselves it is asserted pre-Roe
* early unborn babies are “blobs of tissue” it is asserted by feminists and abortionists
* one of only three abortionists doing late term abortions asserted by proabort rags and hags.
The proabort lobby leaves no lie untold.
Just did a quick look of abortion services in California. Family Planning Associates which has 50+ clinics throughout California advertises second trimester (up to 21.5 weeks, according to their ad) abortions on its Web site. Choice Medical Group has 6 locations in northern CA, and they do second trimester abortions. Pregnancy Consultation Center in Sacramento does second trimester abortions. So looks like at least 70-some clinics in the state of CA, some up to 21.5 and others up to 24 weeks, that will do second trimester abortions.
The language used on all these sites to describe the “procedures” is quite deft and deceptive. Everything is gentle, from the gentle dilation of the cervix to the gentle vacuum aspiration of the uterus. I guess it’s supposed to make a woman feel better that nothing violent is being done.
Luana,
Very interesting. As far as I know, California doesn’t have State reporting requirements, so God only knows how many babies are being aborted there. I bet the web sites you describe have lovely pink butterflies and yellow daisies right next to the list of abortive services. Just like the hormonal BC adds on TV.
“Gentle vacuum aspiration” … wow. That’s an interesting way to say tearing off a baby’s limbs with a hose.
I suppose when they describe crushing the head, it’s phrased more like “humane compression”
Open your EYES, people! Abortion is torturous, horrendous murder. From chemical burns to ripping limbs off to sucking the brains out.
Janet, yes, Family Planning Associates is pink, with a warm and fuzzy feeling, and pretty much treats abortion as birth control. http://www.fpamg.net/
I’m also thinking none of them would say no to an abortion if a woman doesn’t have the date right of her LMP and turns out to be past the second trimester. I would imagine early third trimester abortions are not rare.
Just found out one more thing. There’s a site http://www.abortion.com that lists clinics that offer third trimester abortions. There are 10 of them across the country:
http://www.abortion.com/abortion_clinics_late_term.php
One linked to Family Planning Associates in Los Angeles, which has over 50 clinics in the state of CA. I don’t think it would be too much of a stretch to think that probably all or their 50-some clincs will do third trimester abortions. It would be interesting to find statistics on it.

Do my parents have to know?
As of January 1, 2000, Texas law now requires parental notification before an abortion may be performed for anyone 17 years old or younger. If a parent or legal guardian does not accompany the minor patient, our office is required by law to mail a certified letter, return receipt requested, to the last known address of the parent or legal guardian 48 hours prior to the scheduled appointment.
The abortion may proceed 48 hours after the notification letter has been mailed whether the parent has received it or not.
Does that say what I think it says?

Abortion Advantage’s home page states:
“95% of our patients sleep…
feeling nothing and having
no memory of the procedure.

MaryRose,
“Gentle vacuum aspiration” hurt like HE**!!
Janet,
It says they send a letter and whether a parent receives it or not in 48 hours someone will be having an abortion.
Gee. How often do parents not receive that letter?
Oh, silly me, it’s the law and abortion clinics always follow the letter of the law.
Hey Janet..My friend was sedated for her abortion. She woke up crying anyway, and the rude nurse told her “get up, stop your crying.” and flung a maxi pad at her. My friend said “She acted like I was a bother and didn’t care that i was crying.”
2 other women come to mind who were sedated during their abortions. I really couldn’t imagine the absolute fear that would be coursing through one’s body. Despite the fact that both women were sedated, doesn’t change the fact that they were emotionally scarred for life. My pal, a nursing student at the time, drove over and picked me up the day after her abortion. She wanted to talk about it. She said “I remember hearing a dinging sound from a machine as I drifted in and out of consciousness.” She asked the nurse “Can’t you put it back?” The nurse said “I’m sorry.” “It’s too late.”
Has anyone seen that they now also offer a silent suction machine? OR, you can wear a head set that plays music during the abortion. They are really trying to make the killing fields inviting!
One more; I had to call the center for women’s health to get their hours. Get this. I had to pretend to be a woman seeking an abortion. I was instructed to bring my own maxi pads!! Think I’m full of BS??? Call them!

Isn’t it sad? The state of Illinois can’t figure out how to enforce parental notification, so they don’t bother with it. What a sham, preying on young girls. What people won’t do for a quick buck.

Heartbreaking.
Don’t assume that the workers in these mills are necessarily nurses, either. Private doctor’s offices are allowed to train personnel to function in whatever capacity the doctor chooses, as they operate under his license.
Elisabeth,
That is soooo scary.
No one mentioned this about tiller. He had his first appearance in front of the Judge 6 days ago. The Judge didn’t ask to see the Kansas statutes. The Judge doesn’t care about Medical degrees since He is the Great Physician. Actually the Judge will refresh his memory regarding 60,000 babies that were sent to see the Judge early.
Tiller’s pictures are worth 1000 words. He never did look happy in any of them. Not ever!
Abortion Providers Across U.S. Honor Tiller
Doctors Say Tiller’s Murder Will Not Affect Their Resolve to Perform Abortions
Dr. Leroy Carhart is one of those doctors. Carhart, whose safety was such a concern that he would only speak with ABC News behind closed doors and with security present, said he wants Americans to understand that late-term abortions make up only a small percentage of all abortion procedures. In all, he performed about 2,500 abortions last year. Only 100 of them were late-term.
“It’s very much a three day, four day, even five day procedure,” Carhart said. “In our procedure, after the first day, the fetus is no longer alive. It’s really a miscarriage of a still-born fetus.”

Could this quote be accurate?
I just watched it, Janet. That is what he said.
They interviewed a couple that ended the life of their child who was 6-7months old in the womb. The baby was killed by Tiller before it died of a heart problem when he/she was 3-5 years old.
How about, just for balance, interview someone who had a horrifying experience at Tiller’s?? I am sure there are several who would be willing to come forward.
Janet, that is ALL doctor’s offices. Next time you go in and a “nurse” takes you back, ask her if she’s an RN or an LPN. If she actually is one or the other she won’t mind the question. If she stammers, she’s an MA (medical assistant) illegally using what is a legally protected title in the United States (the same as MA). Many school “nurses” these days are not nurses either.
Carla,
Look up Michelle Armesto-Berge for a horror story about Tiller. Heck, let me find it:

Elisabeth,
That explains a few experiences I’ve had with some seemingly untrained “nurses”…
Hmmm…
Just read it, MaryRose.
Breaks my heart. She is not alone.
