The Dems might need to go to classes put on by the GOP regarding reconciliation. GOP is very good at it – but not sure how often the Dems have even used it. Maybe the GOP should offer courses.

If the Dems couldn’t get “health care” legislation passed with a year of super majorities in both the House and Senate and an Obama worshipping media, then there isn’t much the Republicans can do to help them.
Ah, yes…reconciliation. Both parties, up until now at least, used reconciliation on bills having to do with budgetary matters. This is as it is supposed to be.
Now along comes the Dems with their president on the ropes, seeking to pull one out of the fire to save face going into the fall elections. Why yes, reconciliation is the plan. In a way I hope they use that and succeed because turn-about is fair play and when we get adult supervision back in control there will be a lot to accomplish and we will have been shown the easy way.
EGV: Despite your protests that you were indeed an ex-gop voter, we really only have your word for it. Nothing you say gives creedence to your claim. You either found someone like Nancy Pelosi who claimed she was a GOP’er and you voted for her(or him) thus making you an ex-GOP voter, or you had a brain transplant.
One thing about you being an ex-GOP voter it does make for one less turncoat.
Yeah Carol…Obama won’t have grandkids IF he continues his anti-life policies. African American babies are a rare species now, thanks to PP.

Mary – quite frankly, if the government decides to act like this from here on out, nothing will ever get passed. We have a system where officials can pretty well lock up legislation or judges on their own, or with a few friends. A bill did pass the Senate with 60 votes – but because they didn’t ram it through quickly, and a senator died in the mean time, the game has changed. I hope 60 votes doesn’t become the new game in the senate on everything.
Jerry – what are you talking about? Some of the parts of COBRA (health care) was done via reconciliation. Folks tried to open up the Arctic via reconciliation. Bush’s unpaid for tax cuts was done via reconciliation. Are these budgetary measures?
You are true – you do only have my word for it. I voted for GOP folks this last election, and will continue to vote for GOP folks in future elections. I’m just not straight ticket like I once was. I’m concerned about social security when I retire many years from now, and what sort of tax burden my kids will bare. The GOP under Bush passed a massive, unpaid for Medicare entitlement program. They kicked off two, unpaid for wars. They cut taxes for all Americans, but most steeply for the richest Americans. Again, this was unpaid for.
I don’t have an issue with tax cuts, war, and health care programs. I do have an issue with a party doing these things and saying things like “we didn’t worry about paying for stuff back then”.
I didn’t leave the GOP sir – the GOP left me. Huckabee put it best in 2008: Huckabee said

I know what you are going to say next in regards to spending – but before you do, read a study on the future deficits and how much comes from Obama’s new spending compared to everything that was already in place.
Ex: Are you saying you are a Huckabee supporter? Interesting. Though he had his problems with the GOP (only someone who is brain dead agrees totally with any party) the last I checked he still considers himself a Republican. And that you say voted for Republicans in the past election and will do so again in the future really makes me wonder: Why the moniker???
You did not do your homework. There are no credible studies of the sort you mention re Obama’s unprecedented deficit spending. Link them please. Futhermore, the examples you give on previous uses of reconciliation do not begin to compare to this naked attempt to ram through this massive legislation against the will of the people.
Jerry – That statement from Huckabee resonated with me – would not consider myself a strong backer of him – but I do agree with some of the things he says.
I lean left and associate more with the left now, which is why I chose the name. There will still be candidates I like that are on the right. Just not straight ticket.
First off – I wouldn’t lecture me on reconciliation when you yourself made a blanket statement that was completely false. Furthermore, the Senate bill passed with 60 votes. What better time to use reconciliation than to tweak that bill rather than push a whole new one through. Plus, you should be happy – in previous times reconciliation was used, it added to the deficit – this time won’t (according to the CBO).
Two links on previous spending – and quite simply, the information isn’t that hard to find Jerry – I’m sure you are a smart guy. Think about it as well. Could a do-nothing President add to the deficit by trillions of dollars by himself in that short amount of time? Certainly not – the key factors (or how a surplus projection 10 years ago turned into a deficit) are the downturn of the economy, new Bush spending, unpaid for Bush tax cuts, and new Obama spending. I’m sure these won’t be “credible” enough for you – but you seem moderately smart – do your own homework then.
