Is “controversial” really the correct term for a bill which passed 84-13?
Penny Barber, chief executive of the Brook Advisory Centre in Birmingham, who helped compile the draft guidance, said: “We know emergency contraception is more effective the sooner you use it after sex so it’s crucial young women have it on hand in case they need it.
“Evidence demonstrates that making emergency contraception available in advance does not change the amount of sex young people have.”
It’s interesting because those same studies show that making emergency contraception available in advance does nothing to reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies and abortions. If the goal is to reduce unplanned pregnancies then why is NICE focusing on a tactic (providing emergency contraception in advance) which has proven over and over as ineffective at reducing the number of unplanned pregnancies? It’s like they keep believing it will work in spite of all the evidence to contrary.

Interesting that the folks at Marie Stopes are worried that women only go to their regular doctors right now when they are late with their periods and possibly pregnant. Wasn’t that the whole gist of their rants a while back, that abortion is between a woman and her doctor? Is it really good medicine for a woman to forgo her regular doctor who knows her and her health history to see some “counselor” in a clinic who will take her money, feed her lies and then have her shuttled off to surgery by a doctor who spends all of 5 minutes with her?
@Sydney: Good medicine, no, but the real question is whether it’s good business!

I read the comments along with the Naples Florida story. Wow. Many people don’t know about conception, gestation, and adoption but they post mean-spirited anti-life rants as if they do! Why is phrase ‘adoption waiting list’ common? Why did it take Sandra Bullock 4 years to adopt? (it’s cuz she didn’t go buy a kid in another country!) Many of us DO NOT QUALIFY to adopt (too old, low income, etc.) So according to the abortionists, I should just sit home and wring my hands. One of them even posted that menstruation is a miscarriage! Wow! Obviously the kind of sex education taught in schools is all about how to have sex and not how human reproduction actually works! “it is better to be thought a fool than to type up your posts and remove all doubt.”
