John Boehner chokes up receiving pro-life Henry Hyde award from AUL

hyde boehner.pngCharmaine Yoest of Americans United for Life presented House Republican Minority Leader John Boehner the 2010 Henry Hyde Defender of Life Award yesterday.
Robert Stacy McCain of the blog The Other McCain posted video footage of Boehner’s brief acceptance speech. (McCain is 1 of those bloggers who prefers being in the middle of an event and blogs as they unfold. Which provides plenty of amusing moments, as you’ll see if scrolling through this post’s photos.)
Boehner shared recollections of his early days in DC and the friendship he forged with Hyde, whom Boehner considers one of his heroes.
Boehner choked up a few times, first when talking about Hyde and then when talking about his 11 siblings. Yes, 11. Video on page 2…

  1. …and…I was blessed to have grown up with Henry Hyde as my Representative in Congress. I also had the great honor of meeting him on several occasions when I was active in the Pro-Life movement as a teenager. He was always so gracious and kind. He was an incredibly powerful man but was always very approachable and down-to-earth. And, I still love John Boehner.

  2. Didn’t Henry Hyde have an affair, while married, which he claimed was a “youthful indiscretion?” But it’s all under the blood so it’s all good. And he was a grand knight of Columbus’ jock strap or whateve so it’s all good. Course Bill Clinton will never be forgiven because he doesn’t walk with Jaysus…
And betcha if Henry’s cumada got preggers, she would have had a nice “D&C” – LOL!

  3. As GOP Leader of the House, John Boehner has raised the abortion issue and spoken out on it in his official capacity more than any previous Leader. During the White House “summit” on ObamaCare, it was John Boehner himself who raised objection to the abortion subsidy intrinsic to ObamaCare – straight to the President’s face, rather than leaving it to some rank-and-file Member to bring it up. He leads, he cares, he helps. He’s not perfect; neither was the late, great Henry Hyde. But he’s an outstanding leader, and he knows what counts and isn’t reticent about saying so. Congratulations to AUL on recognizing John Boehner’s growing leadership on Life. Especially to those of us who recognized and appreciated Henry Hyde as a national treasure, it’s moving to see that the next Speaker of the House does as well.

  4. Cranky, if you go to AUL’s blog ( and look at the posts dated 4/29 and 4/30/10 you’ll find a little more about his prolife efforts.

  5. Artemis you are trolling, only here to cause trouble. Mods please delete the filthy mean “hate speech” about the late great Henry Hyde, a true pro-life champion. Please take the filthy post down. PP and NARAL would not allow us to troll their pro-death websites.

  6. Part 1 of AUL’s blog on Boehner — he filed an amicus curiae WITH AUL. Part 2 of AUL’s blog on Boehner — he filed an amicus curiae with AUL.
In part 1 of the blog Boehner defends the use the RU-486 regimen approved by the FDA.
In part 2 of the AUL blog Boehner is saying abortion is horrifically dangerous to teens.
Oh yeah. That’s so totally pro-life.

  7. To answer your question, Fed, nobody. I would like it if pro-life organizations stop giving awards to politicians. Doing so turns abortion into a mere political issue when in fact abortion is a violation of human rights.
Even Michelle Bachmann has done more than Boehner. She’s actually prayed outside of abortion clinics, done sidewalk counseling, and is foster-mother of 20-some-odd children. THAT is defending life. All Boehner has done for pro-life is TALK.

  8. I see where you’re coming from, Cranky Catholic. Thanks for answering my question.
