Biden to China: “Not second-guessing” one-child policy, it’s just “not sustainable”
Your policy has been one which I fully understand – I’m not second-guessing – of one child per family. The result being that you’re in a position where one wage earner will be taking care of four retired people. Not sustainable.

What!? He doesn’t second guess an unsustainable policy? I know he’s prone to gaffs but come on, this takes the cake. It doesn’t make any sense. (Then again when do liberals make sense?)
As contradictory as the beginning and end of this paragraph are, this is still outsanding as one of Joe’s more coherent statements. Bravo, Joe!
It’s not just a rhetorical stumble…as I explain here…

wow that’s a shocker!
Simple solution for those who embrace a culture of death: pick one of the four grandparents/retired persons (based on productivity? gender? talent? some other arbitrary criterion?) and “selectively reduce” the other three. There. Problem solved. /sarc
Xalisae, your post made me LOL because it’s true, sadly, oh so true.
“When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened.”
–Joe Biden, apparently unaware that FDR wasn’t president when the stock market crashed in 1929 and that only experimental TV sets were in use at that time. : P
On “not sustainable,” the reason that China adopted the one-child policy, for any and all “wrongs” associated with it, was that they saw their population growth was just that.
So it’s “not sustainable” coming AND going? Did they ever stop to think for a second that maybe it’s just not a good idea in general?
X, I’m sure many people in China do think it’s a bad idea, period. No argument (from me, anyway) that creating an out-of-balance number of men to women is nasty for a society.
Folks, did any of you on the east coast feel the earthquake? I hope everyone is okay! Sometimes I feel like:
It’s the end of the earth as we know it
(But I feel fine . . .)
Near Albany, NY, Phillymiss, and felt it here too.
@Doug – they evacuated my building, then we stood around outside for awhile, and now we’re back in. And the point was . . .
Glad you are okay, phillymiss and Doug. I am too far south for it. I’ll just wait for the hurricane this weekend, I suppose. :)
Good to hear everyone is ok. No earthquakes or hurricanes here in Nebraska… just three inch hail and five inches of rain in two hours Sunday evening.
Hi Phillymiss, felt it out here in West Chester PA. And X, LOL! It was one of his more coherent statements. Of course this is the idiot who told a disabled veteran who lost his legs, sitting in a wheel chair to “Stand up” and receive his award. I am not a fan of Bush but seems a little unfair they called him the idiot when we got Biden now.
Thank you, thank you. I’ll be here all week. ;P
@Doug – they evacuated my building, then we stood around outside for awhile, and now we’re back in. And the point was . . .
The point was that it’s so much better to have evacuated and have it all be a pretty awesome joke than to have not evacuated and have something terrible happen! Glad you’re okay, phillymiss. And glad that all evacuated and those who simply ran out onto the apartment landing to discuss and compare notes (ie, me, and my gaggle of elderly-crazy and young-mother neighbors) are ok. :)
I live in the Bronx. I live up on the sixth floor, so it felt like “rock-a-bye-baby in the treetop” for a minute or two, but by the time I got my shoes on to go out, it was over. It was rather gentle on the whole and I didn’t even hear anyone else going out.
Hey Lori! We’re practically neighbors – after five years in Astoria, I moved to Inwood last spring. :)
I live in New Jersey and I was in my room at the time of the earthquake. My bed and my clothes cabinet started shaking. While it was happening I was just so confused and spooked out. I almost thought someone was in the cabinet trying to get out! I then started feeling dizzy and then my chair started rattling a bit. When it stopped, I realized that it was probably an earthquake. I immediately started doing a news search on Google, but no mention of an earthquake. However, a few minutes later I turned on Fox News and they were reporting a pretty significant earthquake in Virginia. So mystery solved, but a really weird and scary few minutes for me.
