Stanek weekend question: Name some 2011 pro-life victories?
The American Center for Law and Justice, listing its 2011 victories yesterday, recalled the failed effort by the New York City Council to force pregnancy care centers to post signage stating they do not commit abortions. ACLJ sued the city and won a preliminary injunction, stopping the unconstitutional ordinance from taking effect.
2011 has been a very good year on the pro-life front. Can you name a victory or two?
End of the Iraq War.

Yes, because certainly no one is dying in Iraq anymore, since we’ve left, oh no. Not at all.

I’ll take a small victory over none at all.

you realize crap like that is happening BECAUSE we pulled out…right? If we were still there, those people wouldn’t have died, because the killers wouldn’t have been able to get away with it?
Ugh. You’re hopeless. Enjoy your “victory”…where everyone loses.

xalisae –
I’d read this article from one of the brightest minds in foreign policy before making your broad declarations:

Also xalisae – the article you posted was from BEFORE we were out of the country.

The number of abortion workers who have left the industry to expose the truth
The nurses who stood up for what they believed in despite risking their jobs
Planned Parenthood’s frightened responses to the pro-life movement
People are no longer afraid to voice their opinion, they are charging right into the fire for what is right and just!

We haven’t pulled out of Iraq. There are still 45,000 US troops (and any remaining troops from coalition partners) stationed in Iraq. There are also thousands of private military contractors who will remain even after the final pull-out deadline.

Agree with Helen, good list. Also, it seems to me like the US is starting to realize a bit more that pro-life is not simply a religious or political right wing movement, it’s a human rights issue. I consider that a victory. Still have a long way to go, though.

North Carolina passed the Women’s Right to Know Act.
In Belmont, NC, Room At The Inn (www.rati.org) broke ground on their new college-based residential maternity and after-care facility (the first of its kind in the nation serving the needs of pregnant college women). 2012 victory to be – they open the doors!

Texas cutting over $60 million in “family planning” expenditures that funneled money straight into the abortion industry.
Congressional investigation of PP.
Rick Santorun, Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, unapologetically Pro-Life throughout their campaigns. Whether you like their other politics, that is a victory to have such strong Pro-Life candidates.

Don’t forget JBiebs – he might not be the greatest pro-life activist – but his few little sentences in the Rolling Stone spoke volumes – espeically considering his huge fan base, and who they are…
…and creepy 22 year olds like myself who totally love him :)

Bleh. Since our exit began and the amount of troops stationed began to decline, the violence of independent forces against native civilians has gone up. The troops have been withdrawing for quite some time…But I really don’t feel like arguing about this. A past “me” would’ve defended our presence for the sake of someone who was once a loved one. No longer. You guys win.
Have a good Sunday, everyone.

The baby I held last month, whose family wanted her aborted. She giggled and cooed, and had the cutest, chubbiest little feet evah! There is no victory sweeter than that. God bless her brave, brave mother!

I’m sorry, “A Parent”, but what stage in your child(ren)’s life or lives would it have been appropriate for you to kill them/her/him?
That’s something I’ve never understood when conversing with prochoice parents.

Maybe they think “I’m a parent when I darn well feel like it” which is not the optimal way to run a species.

Definitely the strong showing in Mississippi for Personhood! And the subsequent filing of a half-dozen or more Personhood campaigns for 2012.
Many pro-lifers have been led to think of Mississippi’s Amendment 26 as a defeat, but it wasn’t. Even if it was expected to pass before millions of dollars spread lies that killed it, look at the positives.
1) 42% of Mississippi voters voted to end all abortion, all embryonic destruction, and all abortifacient birth control! That’s actually quite a stunning figure for any state, even if it is the “most pro-life” state, that “pro-life” term doesn’t always cover such a broad pro-sanctity sentiment.
2) More than enough voters who could have made up the difference to pass it have since learned that they were lied to — patent lies spread by millions of dollars funded almost exclusively from out of state (in October they had a million dollars donated from out of state PP affiliates, while they had only one donor from Mississippi!). Those voters are going to remember, and they’re going to vote right next time.
3) Personhood continues to gain traction. Think of it — ending ALL methods of killing innocent unborn children! The year 2012 may not bring 100% victory, but Personhood is the most ambitious pro-life strategy ever, and millions of Americans are coming to agree with the strategy.
That’s a victory!
