Catholic church leaves abortion crosses up in front of polling place
I love Father Mallick. He’s my kind of pastor. From timescall.com, November 5:
Boulder County voters whose polling place is Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church on South Boulder Road can expect to walk past an anti-abortion display – including thousands of crosses representing aborted fetuses – when they go to cast their ballots Tuesday.
County election officials said the display does not appear to violate any rules for polling places, but they will allow voters assigned to Sacred Heart of Mary to vote elsewhere Tuesday – and the county will no longer use the church as a polling place in future elections.
“Our concern is that people are going to feel a sense of conflict with regard to voting at this church,” said Molly Tayer, Boulder County’s deputy clerk and election coordinator.
Tayer said a church representative initially told the clerk’s office that the display, erected in October for Respect Life Month, would be taken down the first weekend in November. According to Tayer, that person called back on Friday to say that, “Father has elected to keep it up.”
The Rev. Marcus Mallick is the priest at Sacred Heart of Mary. Church representatives on Monday referred questions to the Archdiocese of Denver, where a spokeswoman said the display is not meant to influence voters, but to continue a ministry that reaches out to women considering abortion and those who have undergone abortions in the past.
“These are ‘Respect Life’ signs to bring awareness to the issue,” said Karna Swanson, the diocese’s spokeswoman. “The decision to keep them up was based on the success of that ministry.”
Swanson said she does not know how long the church – which made news in 2005 for hosting burial services for the cremated remains of aborted fetuses – will maintain the display. She also said that no one from the church spoke with the Boulder County Clerk and Recorder’s Office between April, when the contract was signed to host the voting location, and late last week.
The display does not appear to violate any election rules against expressing political views at polling places, Boulder County’s Tayer said. It is on the church’s private property and is not explicitly political. It also lies outside the 100-foot buffer inside which no political signs or personal campaigning is allowed.
However, the Boulder County clerk’s office has received three complaints about the display being located outside a polling center.
Are these people just pro-abortion, or are they vampires?

Classy.
It does look like a classy display, joan. I agree.
At least the graveyard is over 100 feet from the polling place and isn’t overtly political. Philadelphia voters had to see a huge Obama mural right IN the polling place.

joan, perhaps you think it is more classy that aborted fetuses rot in garbage bags in utility rooms? At least you don’t see the remains, right?
Because Joan just screams class. Put a sock in it Joanie.
This is my old parish. Always been strongly pro-life. Boulder especially needs to see this. God Bless Fr. Mallick.
Since when are crosses political? Or for that matter since when is abortion political? Oh yeah, I forgot that Obama declared being pro-life as a war on women.
Exactly when did he say that truthseeker?

I agree, no worshiping swedish astronauts.
“ABORTION REMAINS LEGAL”
Not for long.
I think that after the election is over there are two things that need to be seriously examined.
Firstly, the money. It’s estimated that the two candidates have spent about 2 billion dollars between them. Then there are estimates of anywhere between 2 and 4 billion dollars having been spent by organisations and people (some of whose names include words like ‘incorporated’) – hey now there’s an idea, maybe women should declare their bodies to be corporations, then the GOP’s approach would be ‘hands off, let ‘em be, they should have complete freedom to operate as they wish’ – anyhow, given the state of the economy, isn’t it a bit rude that anywhere between 4 and 6 billion dollars have been spent? I don’t have any clear answer.
Secondly, I think it’s quite possible that the US is the only modern nation which doesn’t have a single national method of casting ballots which is overseen by independant groups. No wonder some people are excluded, some are defrauded and arguments and court actions occur.
Did you really come up with the body as corporation thing all by yourself? How long did it take you? Mommy and daddy must be so proud!
Can’t disagree on the second point. If the same style of election was held in any other nation, Americans would be laughing at them.
Apart from your self-bemusement at my aside, do you have any thoughts on the amount of money spent Navi?
Yeah its funny, I see tv footage of people voting in backwaters in 3rd world nations and they all have the same instruments and apparatus at every polling station as well as independant observers – well they sometimes seem to be independant anyway.
Well we’ve lost this one. Obama has won the election. But the GOP retains control of the House. Let obstruction reign for the next four years. Obama has been mostly held in check for the past two years, and that needs to continue. It’s very hard to defeat an incumbent president, even one as terrible as Obama.
To anyone who is despairing because of this result, I strongly suggest that you pray. Catholics, pray the Rosary. I have been praying it more frequently and it has brought me peace this night, peace in the knowledge that we need not fear those who can kill the body. They cannot hurt us any way that truly matters. The people of God have perserved through times of great distress and vicious dictators. And we shall continue to persevere until Our Lord returns.
Adoramus te Christe, Adoramus Christe!
“ABORTION REMAINS LEGAL”
Not for long.
We’ll see.
$4 billion for a bunch of nasty ads does sound a bit steep to me, but as a Canadian I don’t feel qualified to judge. After all, we have an entire national party literally dedicated to splitting the biggest province from the rest of the country.
“Let obstruction reign for the next four years”
Maybe that’s why you lost
God bless you, Hal. May He guide you through this continued time of tribulation. I have been blessed with peace in the wake of disaster. I will continue to pray, but it remains the duty of our elected officials to obstruct evil, regardless of popularity.
“Maybe that’s why you lost “
Word.
After all, we have an entire national party literally dedicated to splitting the biggest province from the rest of the country.
Ack, that should be second biggest province. D’oh!
Perhaps Fr. Mallick can put up a few extra crosses for the Republican Senate seats that were cruelly aborted this evening.
Classy.
“We’ll see.”
You will.
when this country is bankrupt, there will be millions wondering why there isn’t any social security left to help them out. The answer: 55 MILLION aborted….55 MILLION that could have been working and paying into the system.
I like cross displays. They are simple and straightforward. And there can’t be any objections…there aren’t any PICTURES of ABORTION included!
Abortion is a human rights issue….NOT a political one. We don’t know how many nurses, doctors, teachers, astronauts, etc….we have lost due to abortion.
